It looks as though Transformers Dark of the Moon's Ultimate Optimus Prime will be getting a rather interesting repaint to coincide with the Chinese Year of the Dragon in 2012. The Planet Iacon - Singapore Transformers Fans Unite facebook page has uploaded a mock up for the repaint, which features dragon deco on the trailer. Check out the image mirrored below.

That's actually really cool looking. Loving how it blends in with Optimus in power-up mode, which happens to evoke "dragon."

I still see Butterfly Fairy Princess Prime when I see him combined with the trailer, but I must say, the colors work very well for this.

they are now to be known as dragon wings!

If it's so stupid then maybe you should just not even post?

Doesn't look like the cab has changed at all. Just gimme the trailer for my existing Ultimate OP and I'll be happy. :)

I dig the Zodiac, albeit originating from my motherland. Will probably get this for kicks.

I am so sick of hearing that. The wings are adjustable, they go up, out, down, and everywhere in between.

Looks cool, but I think Prime himself is the same.
Oh, remind me not to look up the chinese year when I was born ('85).

Also agree with above, quit bashing the wings. At least the thing is the actual trailer. I do wish they didn't make one big cannon but two arm guns like in the movie. The figure still looks great.

I really hope they make a Scourge/Nemesis Prime repaint. Or even an Ultra Magnus repaint.

even though I don't like it & won't buy it. I have to say it's a very creative & brillant recolor.

here's hoping Takara celebrates the 2012 year of the dragon with other transformers toys from the past that had dragon alt modes. by giving them updated homage new molds in 2011. like as few examples: (1) 1987 Snapdragon updated homage new mold in generations 2012 voyager size. (2) TM2 Megatron voyager sized updated homage new mold for 2012. more streamlined, more proportioned,no rubbery parts. get rid of the baseball cap & horns on the robot head. (3)deathsauras ultra sized updated homage new mold in 2012. (4) skylynx updated homage new mold in 2012.

I like the colors, quite a bit I must say. I even like the packaging. I just don't like the toy. Still don't.

If that's what you want then I'd get to making them myself. As sure as Hell is slightly toasty, even Takara won't produce new figures of those characters unless Hasbro decides they are to be part of the Prime or movie universes.

Personally I quite like the colouring and the notion behind it. No where near enough to entice to me to get it, but still...

I really like this idea. Too bad it probably won't be worth the price attached...

Not bad. i blame whoever is in charge of marking for the lame wing photos. They are fully adjustable and don't have to be in that lame "X-wing/butterfly" look. I like this figure. The dragon prints pretty cool too. Any minute now like the energon combiners, this will get some add on that will make more desirable. Two handguns and a twin rocketpack for robot mode and a larger set of wheels(remove BFG and fold trailer wheels in, Attach new wheels in BFG holes) and hitch to hook up to the ROTF Prime molds.

This goes well because it happens to be the year of the dragon, which is percieved as a powerful creature in the east and west alike. If it happened to be the year of the pig, rat, or rabbit, Takara probally wouldnt take a chance on the concept. ;)

Dragonfly wings, maybe.

Remember when repaints used to have some sort of purpose...either being a different character or at least be relevant to the character? That's the problem with the movie repaints, they're mostly just the same character and have nothing to do with anything that's ever happened with the character. Then again, the entire 'ultimate' Prime figure never happened so I suppose it's a bit difficult to give the repaint a relevant deco... But the point remains, movie repaints suck pretty hard most of the time.

Neat idea, I would buy this since I was borne in the year of the Dragon, buuuuuut I really don't like the looks of this mold. I would have preferred the deluxe with trailer, at least that looks like Prime in the movie and has articulation. I just can't justify the price tag this will have due to being a limited exclusive.
