I had the same thoughts about Tigatron. And the opposite of Airazor. Though I had bigger issues with Airazor aside from size...

I had originally planned to transform Galaxy Force Soundwave into DOFP Depth Charge, mainly because a majority of the DOFP's set used Galaxy Force molds, and Soundwave has an appropriate head for Depth Charge. Also his chest piece is similar to the (generic) chest piece on the pre-BW body we can sort of see in "Deep Metal".
I could totally see GF SW as a pre-BW DC :).

For Protoform-X, I actually just got a Hasbro Rampage (I use a Takara one to actually represent Rampage from the show) and removed all of his kibble. Based on the sillouette you see during the show of him on Cybertron, that's pretty much what he looks like. Just Rampage without the crab kibble. A LOT of the 'Cybertronian' Maximals and Predicons shown during BW and BM seemed to not really have alt modes at all. For those, I actually used a bunch of Action Masters. I just repainted them to make them match the color schemes/patterns I observed during the few occasions they were shown throughout the series (Action Master Bumblebee makes a great Cicadacon with some red and silver paint ;)).

That's some very creative creating there. Sounds like some good projects. :APPLAUSE:

I lost interest in the brand in the late 80s/early 90s, and only got re-interested again when the live-action movies came out. So I completely missed Beast Wars, RID, Unicron Trilogy, etc. For that, I'm mostly glad, since the Unicron Trilogy seems completely overloaded with characters and concepts. Too much to focus on. My major point in saying all that is that Beast Wars holds no interest for me, and thus nor does this Depthcharge. I AM however interested in some of the other characters they're going to be releasing for the Subscription service.

I'm TOTALLY over the moon that they're going to be releasing Slipstream as a remolded and repainted Prime FE Starscream. I love me some fembots, and I've always thought he had a really feminine body shape, so making Screamer's mold into a fembot just saves me the trouble  I'm not so thrilled about the color choices they made for her (I'd always seen or imagined her with a G2 Ramjet deco) in Thundercracker blue, Hot Spot blue, silver and black, but I'll take what I can get with fembots. Now all I need is a Knockout repainted into Freezon (which will never happen since she's too obscure) and Bumblebee repainted into Nightracer (also not happening for a number of reasons).

oops, hit send too soon...

I may just try those projects myself. I figure since Nightracer was something of a Bumblebee redeco, his altmode would work for hers, and Freezon is red anyway, so Knockout's mold should serve as a good and easy donor with minimal repainting. Does anyone else redeco existing molds into fembots?

Fiction-wise, G1 seemed to have more characters than all of the Beast Era, RiD, and Unicron Trilogy shows combined.

She sure looks correctly colored (in purple, teal, some black, some slivery gray) to me.

That's absolutely true. There were TONS of active characters at any given time, and many were introduced only to be seen again once or twice. And given the 2-D medium, it was easy to pull that off.
With the 3-D models, it's not quite so easy to make hundreds of different characters and make sure they ALL get at least some screentime. Also, with smaller casts, you can actually get some character development.

So, starting with Beast Wars, they cut back the cast size to give the individual characters more depth.

The short version is, it's a continuity headache. Just go with the logical route and call it a splinter continuity.

It's simple. Transformers defies most rules of foreign dubs that original is usually the more accurate, Word of God version, what with the existence of the Universal Streams system enabling the coexistence of all versions in the multiverse. Car Robots and RID are not the same show/universe. Fire Convoy is not the same guy as Convoy/Optimus Prime/whoever else, nor is Gigatron any version of Megatron, etc. etc.

The RiD cartoon is set in Viron 901.8 Alpha
And Car Robots is set in Primax 400.5 Alpha

Aligned continuity material should have no bearing on the Multiverse, nor should the latter affect the former. The two are separate entities.

It shouldn't, but I'm not sure what Hasbro meant by past continuities not being included in future Transformers lore.

If they said that at all. :HEADHURTS:

They said that certain elements of past series will emcompass the Aligned continuity, but not the entirety of past series themselves. G1 is still G1 and so on. Think like how Animated had so many elements taken from past series while it was still its own thing. It's like that here with the Aligned continuity.

How is it confusing? It's no different that any other continuity reboots we've had before. RiD, Armada, Movies, Animated... this is just another new one that has a lot of inspirations from previous series. Only difference this time being its longevity of seven years to a decade.

I don't even try. Every time something new comes along I just consider it a different continuity. I know that may not technically be correct, but it just seems easier and more enjoyable that way.

The English dub of RiD rewrote a lot of things from the original version Car Robots to make it stand out on its own. And, combined with the Universal Streams system, both can exist as different realities. One that is set in the Viron Cluster, where the inhabitants speak English and all have one set of names and identities, and one that is set in the Primax Cluster where they all speak Japanese and have a different set of names and identities.

Why, Brave Max got a whole unique history and origin story of his own that RiD Fort Max never got.

It's like how Scramble City, The Headmasters, Masterforce, Victory, Zone, etc. are all set in the same continuity as FSRLTF and 2010, but not the English G1 cartoon.

Or how Beast Wars Second, Beast Wars Neo, Beast Wars Reborn, and Beast Wars Diorama Story are all set in the same continuity as Beast Wars SLTF, Beast Wars Metals, and Beast Wars Returns, but not the English versions of Beast Wars and Beast Machines.

Certain aspects of different language versions differentiate them from other dubs enough to make them stand on their own, as well as tie them to other series that other dubs don't relate to. Like, The Headmasters and Masterforce couldn't possibly fit in with the English G1 cartoon since The Rebirth occurs instead of The Headmasters and "G1 season five" has Optimus Prime as a Powermaster at some point during/after 2007, when Convoy is still dead by that point in the Japanese cartoon continuity.

It also doesn't help that G1 season 3 takes place in 2006, while 2010 is set in 2010, leaving a five-year gap of events between the Japanese dub of the G1 movie (2005-2010) that is acknowledged in other Japanese G1 cartoon material. A five-year gap that is otherwise nonexistent in the English version.

A new dub creates a new universe/reality/universal stream/etc. That's how the Transformers multiverse work.

See, I would've gone with the movie Depthcharge for the mold. That way he'd at least have some kind of aquatic alt-mode.

Also he needs a less gaudy colour scheme.
