In-Hand Images: Transformers Beast Hunters 2014 Cyberverse Assortment

TFW2005 user kwweil was generous enough to upload a small gallery of the approaching year's Beast Hunters Cyberverse assortment, featuring Bludgeon, Ultra Magnus, Unicron Megatron, Bluestreak, Ace Vehicon, Rotgut, and Divebomb. To refresh those who either missed out on previous news on these, or those who completely forgot about these fellas, Bludgeon is a retool of the Cyberverse Shockwave (coming with a new sword lifted from the Cyberverse Beast Hunters Optimus Prime), Ultra Magnus a retool of the original Cyberverse Optimus Prime (complete with a new bangin' hammer!), Unicron Megatron a redeco of the original Cyberverse Megatron (representing his new, upgraded, spiky form from Predacons Rising), and the Ace Vehicon, Bluestreak, Rotgut, and the patriotically decoed Divebomb from the Cyberverse Vehicon, Smokescreen, Blight, and Windrazor, respectively.

"Divebomb" is rather reminiscent of SkyLynx

That Magnus looks horrible, but I want that hammer for Commander class Roadbuster/Bulkhead.

Rot Gut looks amazing. There's just something putridly beautiful about that acid green and snot yellow, plus the Blight mold is simply divine! And they went the extra mile and gave Rotty two eyes instead of a single visor to further differentiate him from Blight and, er, red Blight. Can't wait to get him!

Divebomb also looks pretty rad. I kinda wish he was still a Pred (once a Pred...), since I don't really have any Autobots and I'll just be putting Divebomb with the other Terrorcons anyways, but I do like the subtle hint that this is Swoop.
Perhaps "Age of Extinction" will give him some Autobot reptile-monsters to hang out with. ;)

I'm ALMOST tempted by Bludgeon but the fact that he's basically just a repaint turns me off from getting it. It's pretty sad when the highlight of a whole set is Steve in different colors. That one I'll get. He rocks in his "Ace" look.
I've already got all the small combiner Preds for Abominus so Autobot versions don't thrill me much and seeing Megatron in brown?? I'm not even going to go there. It's just too easy.

So one definite and one maybe out of the whole assortment. More money to throw at the Generations line I guess.

damn that magnus is bad, but Bludgeon didnt see him coming at all. Would be a great figure if it has some more paint detailing, looks like a KO with that bland paint. Megatron would be good if that alt mode wasnt crap. All in all i think ill be passing on all of these, the vehicon is a good mold but i have the first one & bludgeon i might get if the price drops but not paying $10 for it.

...OK, I will officially take back EVERYTHING I have said about the "Simplified Voyagers" if Hasbro makes one of that Bludgeon figure.

Divebomb may actually be an homage to the Dinobot Swoop, to both his toy and cartoon/Diaclone coloring. Funny fact, Swoop's preliminary name was Divebomb, which is reflected in G1 fiction.

The figure itself even kinda looks like Swoop.

I feel like I should be annoyed they're all repaints/retools, especially since a few molds in this very wave are also getting those oversized versions, but for some reason I don't mind it. I suppose since most of these really stand out from their original uses (i.e. aren't "Night Vision _____" or "Jungle Attack ___" versiosn of existing characters), and some are simply fantastic molds I'd love to buy multiples of.

I want to see Twinstrike and Hun-Grrr get repainted, too; they'd both make a great Doublecross. But I wouldn't mind Cyberverse versions of Laserback, Ripclaw, or Grimwing. Probably too late for them, though...

Enslaved/Possessed (Not-Galvatron  ) Megatron, is very attractive in color scheme but, why is there almost no remolding of any kind? If TomyT' & Hasbro can remold Shockwave in to Bludgeon, why not Megatron in to the proper shape? This is inconsistent and stupid. They would sell more figures if they gave that figure the full treatment. Just a recolor? It might sell a few, but, I believe they would have sold, many times more figures, than just what this figure will achieve, upon full release.

I was already disappointed that he wasn't Galvatron, to begin with, & now it isn't even really Unicron possessing Megatron. It's just a recolor - there is no excuse for, "playing safe", in this instance. I'm doubly disappointed. What is the point in this instance in playing it safe? Hell, they could have just remolded/retooled Sharkitron, the original retool, just by remaking the head, & adding the dark-energon weapons.

Perhaps budget only allowed for 2 Commanders to be remolded, and they deemed Ultra Magnus and Bludgeon more worthwhile than a 'proper' Megacron (he's not anywhere near as distinct as the other two).

That wouldn't be unlikely, and, if you're right, it would give Has/Tak more credit. Maybe we were spoiled by Animated, & the start of the toy line in 2012 for Prime.

Besides, how much different did he actually look? Extra spikes do not justify a significant retooling in Hasbro's eyes.

The change IS distinct. It's more than just a few "spikey" bit's & a recolor. It's very much influenced by both Unicron & Galvatron.

The head is similar in shape, but, meant to reflect both Megatron & Unicron.
-Helmet is similar but, taller, more elongated. Distinct when viewed on video.
-The eyebrows are gone, in their place, Unicron's horns.
-The jaw is longer, the savage lines, age lines, a different character.

Overall, it's the head that was most distinct. Many who watched the special, including myself, were surprised by just how different. The early leaked/promo pictures, did not fully reveal the change.

Also, there were enough differences in the rest of the body, besides pointy bits, & new colors, that to both adult & child alike, the new toy just fails to match.

It is distinct enough that the difference becomes VERY noticeable. I don't have to like that the toy looks more like Megatron than "Unitron". I know many more that will not like it either. I will not purchase a simple recolor. They have so many remolds & recolors as of late, that, if they just didn't do it, because Has/Tak didn't think it was worth it? That is incorrect, and an incorrect assumption, a mistake that will cost sales figures. This is the Decepticon leader, altered from possession by the Transformer "devil", from the series finale.

To a few, who thought the animators should have gone much farther, in altering Megatron for Possessed Megatron, that's different. I can tell you feel this way. But, I still feel it's distinct enough, by those who watched, that it will effect sales. If I noticed right away, think of how many others will? The horns alone change the profile greatly. Also, lacking the dark energon weapons? This would be like selling Galvatron, but, without his big orange gun. Unitron didn't use Meg's arm gun, instead, Unicron used his dark energon super weapons. This too is noticeably lacking, & was a feature I, & others too, had too have been looking forward too.

I hear your complaint/criticism of the possessed design. Maybe you, like myself, would have preferred a proper Galvatron, instead of just an enslaved/possessed Megatron, altered to reflect the possession by the devil-god.

You're making a good point there, Tronus. :) However, we should keep in mind that the smaller the figure is , the more difficult it becomes to sculpt such minute details. I could see such retooling being done on the Voyager or even the Deluxe. But for the Commander, not really. Besides, it could become so pointy it would pose a hazard and therefore would have to be cast in rubbery plastic like parts of Voyager Predaking. Maybe I'm being paranoid with that

So in the end, will these new repaints be sold as a gift set, or individually?

I think Unicron Megatron should be totally made as a new mold because I have analysed the transformation and it mostly resembles the Construct-O-Bot Unicron Megatron and transformation should be like that and as it is a Cyberverse figure, it would be very simple. And I might bye it as Galvatron but I will not call him Unicron Megatron even the alternate mode is totally different and best matches with the construct-o bot unicron megatron and I hope they make a new mold and rename it as Galvatron but is there any way to send a message to Hasbro about this and any way to help them make new figures. If there is, I will be delighted t help them.
