These images do Brawn some justice. I might pick him up, if in-hand images appeal to me more.

Passing on Starscream. I get what they're trying to do, but it doesn't work as Starscream to me.

$100 a piece...

Can you order these from the Club or Ehobby?

E-Hobby only has Starscream, Brawn is only at TakaraTomy Mall. We could expect the club to put up listings for them, but price-wise you wouldn't be better or worse off with either.

Yup, still looks amazing. And look, Brawn has his G1 colors.
And I might as well say it here too.
Brawn= muscle. How does that mold not work?

prime aesthetics in my opinion just dont fit with regular figures. much like movie figures. think about the flipside: put animated or prime ratchets head on classics ratchets body and see if that fits.

for me, the drawbacks of brawn are his tiny head and stubby legs.

starscream however... is just unique coming from that mold. part of me says "nooo.... a tank? he's not supposed to be a powerhouse.." but i dont know. i just really like him. maybe its the spot on G1 colors thats grabbing me.

ill agree the biggest drawback of the cloud line in general are the prices. its asking a lot for glorified repaints.

:-? Hmmm... I wonder if that teeny noggin of Brawn's would fit on a Classics Kup body. If Hasbro would scale it down, it would probably look good on the IDW Swerve/Gears mode as well, but for some reason, that tiny head on Bulkhead's massive body makes Brawn look like someone inflated him until his chest plates are separating. Maybe they should rename him Bloat instead of Brawn?

Well, they're at least "not" G1, since Cloud is its own continuity.

That's because BH deluxe Bulkhead is a MUCH better Brawn with better proportions than that Cloud joke.

I still want that Starscream, but for 100$, I'll prefer the Supreme Starscream mold in G1 colors. Sigh, when the hell Generations Doubledealer will be released in Quebec?

So basically youre saying "cloud" is machine wars all over again ?

Huh? No. Machine Wars is a future version of some form of G1, while Cloud is set in some higher dimensional non-G1 world called Cloud World.

In this image, you can see G1 Optimus (from the cartoon) on the left, and Cloud Optimus on the right, with both existing as separate individuals from each other (and all the other Autobots are the G1 cartoon characters like G1 Optimus).

Image

The reason we see the two together is because Cloud Optimus and Cloud Megatron (who is likewise a different guy from G1 Megatron) shifted their battle from Cloud World into the world of the (Japanese) G1 cartoon.

I'm iffy on the exact details surrounding this because the stories still haven't been translated into English yet, and Google Translate is useless in this case.

Can't we just say it's a different G1 universe and be done with it? Also-

Is Megs holding a human or a paintbrush there?

That's like saying Armada or Animated are different a G1 universe, so no, we can't.

Neither. It's SARA.

Another shot of G1 Optimus and Cloud Optimus together, btw.

No matter how its sugarcoated with the addition of a continuity, the bottom line is its a lazy way to milk molds and sell repaints. Just like machine wars and shattered glass. They can draw anything in a comic based upon a mold and call it official fiction.

Are you trying to claim that comic books don't count as official fiction?

This isn't even a comic, anyway.

As the GDO series wasn't available in Japan and this line is using molds skipped in the Japanese Generations line, I'd like to view it as "importing molds" as Hasbro has done at times. Namely, with these:

- BotCon 2001 Tigatron (Beast Wars Metals X-9 Jaguar)
- Universe 2003 Nemesis Prime (Beast Wars Neo C-35 Big Convoy)
- Universe 2003 Overbite (Beast Wars II D-23 Hellscream)
- Energon Optimus Prime vs. Megatron (Deluxe and Ultra Class molds respectively)
- BotCon 2012 Scrap Iron (United Scrapheap)
- TFCC Ultra Mammoth (see Nemesis Prime)
- TFCC Rewind (United UN-20 Rumble & Frenzy)
- TFCC Thrustinator (Beast Wars II D-24 Dirgegun)

All im dsaying is its a line of repaints. They all come from the same factory whether they are made for US, japan, euorpe, or the rest of asia. The whole continuity thing is just an afterthought to make the repaints more marketable to collectors. Most collectors buy online anyways.

Just like G1 Transformers were a lazy way to milk a bunch of existing toys and sell repaints of them.

Rated X wrote: The whole continuity thing is just an afterthought to make the repaints more marketable to collectors.

Sort of like how the entire Transformers fiction universe was created by a marketing team to make a bunch of repaints of unrelated Japanese toys more marketable to Americans.

Yeah, repaints of remolds Japan never got (minus Optimus). These may not be new to us, but they're new to them.

You, me, everyone in the U.S., we're not the audience that this line is intended for.

It's not even a mass retail line, so what does it matter if Takara does some small time repaints on the side of their bigger main projects?

And in case you don't remember, the original Transformers: Universe toyline that ran from 2003-2006 (before the Classics toyline ever began) was line comprising entirely of repaints. Not a single new mold was to be found in that line*, and yet it was successful to last a whopping four years (today's toylines get lucky if they manage to last for even three years).

* - Though, there were originally two new Dinobot molds (Grimlock and Swoop) that were created for that line, but they instead were sold in the Transformers: Energon line, keeping the original Universe line nothing but repaints.

To anyone other than X reading this post, I haven't forgotten about Aveo Swerve, but he wasn't a mass retail figure, and was a whole different mess of a case on his own.

And I know about the rebranded toys that came after 2007, but I'm speaking strictly of the line in regards to the toys that were made just for it, rather than the other lines' toys that it took into it.

The whole "Japan never got that mold" concept is getting kind of silly. Almost all serious collectors of Takara figures buy their stuff online. This seems to render the term "Japanese Exclusive" pointless. For every "Cloud" figure that gets sold in a Japanese hobby shop, ten probaly get sold online to collectors from US, Canada, Euorpe, etc. I think a more fitting name would be "Online Exclusive". I just think it's silly to say "Japan never got that mold" when half of the collectors in Japan probaly obtained it online from BBTS or TF Source. Unless they are taling about Japanese kids not getting that mold in toy stores ? But $100 a figure, I dont think the target of the Cloud line is kids walking into an Asian toy store.
