Where did Takara claim that? I thought this was just supposed to be one of those oddball exclusives they tend to do (like Dark Guard Optimus Prime was in the Transformers: Prime line etc.). Usually when they put out a more show accurate deco of a figure from a main line, it gets released in the main line, not as an exclusive. At least if my recollection is correct, that's generally how they do it. The exclusives are usually just oddball repaints or homages to more obscure stuff/different continuities etc. like with the G1 colored Dinobots they're releasing.

Black Knight Leader Grimlock is a main line release, numbered AD20. He's not an exclusive like Black Knight Scorn and Slug are. :-B

He looks interesting, but the Platinum Leader Grimlock looks just a tad better:

"He has proven difficult to capture and nearly impossible to defeat. When an enemy does get the best of him, it's never for long." Hmmm... Unless you think about how he was imprisoned by Lockdown. Clearly he was defeated, and with a Dinosaur beast mode he'd presumably scanned and reformed into at least 65 million years ago, when dinosaurs were around. "Never for long," unless you count this 65 million year imprisonment. Then there's the "nearly impossible to defeat," although Optimus Prime manages it with one knockdown? :HEADHURTS:

This colour scheme makes no sense to me. It also doesn't make the figure look any better either.

Actually if you noticed in the movie, Grimlock does have a greenish tint coming off his back in dino mode. I am assuming that is what this is trying to interpret. I think I will stick to the chromed one. If anything, I can buy some paint and do it a bit up if I really want to. I'm quite happy with him though.

I think it's supposed to represent the slight metallic patina he has in the movie (although it isn't that extreme in the film).

Grimlock didn't scan a dinosaur. He probably doesn't even have anything to do with Earth's dinosaurs.

Then all those beast modes are either huge coincidences in their resemblance to Earth dinosaurs, or evidence of convergent evolution on another world? I don't buy it. Either way, it's another gap "left open to interpretation" by Bay... What use is the story-driven narrative of a movie when you have to invent the story & make sense of it yourself?

That Optimus is looking better and better. It's actually in-scale, as opposed to the giant Leader Class, and it's more movie-accurate than anything Hasbro's putting out. I just really hope that backpack can fold up...

Left to right:
Premiere Edition Optimus Prime, Lost Age Series LA01 Battle Command Optimus Prime, Movie Advanced Series AD01 Optimus Prime

They are the Japanese counterparts to First Edition Optimus Prime, nothing (there is no Hasbro version of Battle Command OP), and Age of Extinction Generations Leader class Optimus Prime.

Why fold up? Judging by the dimensions, it'll go over Optimus' head if it can be folded up. Either way you are going to be stuck with one of the biggest backpack ever, so why not leave it down and hide the ugliness?

I'd rather have a large, somewhat-integrated backpack than a giant chunk of truck kibble that just hangs loosely from his waist. Plus, it can't be any worse than the First Edition's backpack of doom.

Holy crap, Takara Grimlock looks be-a-eutiful! Literally the only thing I would change on that is removing the forearms and replacing them with some slightly better ones mounted underneath his chest like an actual tyrannosaur rather than on the sides. And that would just be a matter of finding some tiny arms from a model kit (or even modifying these ones) drilling some holes and attaching them with a Revoltech joint.

It also shows where the Hasbro version went wrong. If they'd done the whole dino body in chrome it might have worked. Just having the back and skull (and hence inner legs of robot mode) chromed made it look daft. A shame as I did like the chromed dino-noggin.

But yeah. That Takara Grimlock is SOLD.

Also, any word on the upgraded Takara leader Prime (with the supposed retooling and completely chromed finish)?

Once again, Takara Tomy steps in to make a garbage toy look less garbage. That Galvatron almost looks buyable.

Believe it or not, it's not the backpack that puts me off buying it. It's the V-crotch arrangement with the hip ratchets.

It's funny to me how when Hasbro puts chrome onto random parts of their figures, Takara is REMOVING it. Usually it's the other way around.

I've been trying to figure out what it is about Galvatron that looks familiar in a way. I just put my finger on it! He looks like a minotaur! He's got feet that look like cloven hooves, and his helmet looks a lot like a set of horns from the front.

No, it's the ass-pack of doom. Proportionally speaking it's just a tad worse than the first edition for me.

Sabrblade's video cracked me up so much. What the hell was I watching?

Just another typical TakaraTomy Transformers ad for the collector-based Japanese market. ;)
