I still feel that they are doing a good job on the movie. I have my doubts about it and more then my fair share of dislikes in designs. I still stay optimistic because that's the kind of person I am. Just because I wanted a steak soft taco and I got a chicken soft taco doesn't mean I won't still bite :P Sorry, I'm really hungery.

Okay, with regards to the actual quote, I think it's quite clear that, rather than them not giving a "rat's ass", they've actually tried to strike a balance with this movie by appealing to both fans and non-fans. That, in my opinion, is worthy of a salute.

It's clear from this, and previous interviews, that the producers as a whole have tried to cater for everybody. Whether Bay himself has is another matter, but the people around him are at least trying to be fair.

Look at the quote again.

Lorenzo Di Bonaventura in Movies Online wrote:So for the non-fan of it, we had to have enough fun with it so that they would be entertained and for the fan, we had to take it very seriously what we were executing around the Autobots and the Decepticons.

He doesn't say, "We're not doing this for the fans, we're doing it for those that have never had contact with the franchise". He says we're trying to cater for both. It's not fair to pounce and cry "sacrilege". Reading is a rudimentary skill.

What's clear is that they're claiming they've made an attempt to cater to both. Whether or not they actually have isn't going to stop them from saying so.

True, but we can't really claim otherwise. At present the evidence is more in favour of them compromising than of them not giving a rat's ass. We've seen designs that have departed from what we know to be TFs, certainly, and they've introduced new characters that we've never seen before. However, they've given us G1 character names (personalities we really will have to wait and see; even that leaked script was only a poor draft) with fitting alt.modes, Peter Cullen as Optimus, and a classic G1 (nay, a classic TF) story. Spike Witwicky is retained as Sam Witwicky, also. I'm sure they'll toss in references and nods, etc.

None of this, however, alters my expectations of the film. I am still reasonably certain it will be poor, largely due to its script. I'll have to wait to find out, though!

I give Di Bonaventura credit. He's admitted to having to cater to both sides of the fence on this one. He also realizes and admits he has to be careful us fans, and he's trying.

I think out of all of them, he was honest enough to earn my respect. I don't care for all of what he said, but I have to give him his dues. He could've said "Screw you and the horse you rode in on, this is MY movie, and we're getting Krusty The Clown to voice Optimus Prime. Eat it." He didn't.

And to those of you who keep saying "Oh they admit they don't take it seriously, so then why do it?!" ...MONEY.

TransFormers is a big cashcow. Comics, toys, clothing, books, etc. You throw in a movie filled with explosions and a potentially good script (from what I read of the revised, but not final...it's pretty good. Not Oscar caliber, but good.) and it's going to make money.

You think they all signed on for this just because? Oh nay nay! No, they signed on for the money, but they're getting a crash course in seeing just how serious we as a fandom, really are.

...and they're starting to respect us, even if you're not willing to see it.

I don't see where they are starting to respect us. And, at this point, it is way too late anyway. The movie barely resembles TF's. It's just a shoot 'em up sci-fi with a teenager mixed up in it.

The G1 Marvel comic was a shoot 'em up sci-fi with a teenager mixed up in it and Beast Wars barely resembled Transformers when it was brought to the table.

I read the Movie comic today, and it is far from both of those. The designs don't look anything like anything I've seen (other then the drones looking like Armada Thrust) I still think it has the general feel to it, and I also feel the movie will have lots of qualities to make it feel like Transformers when I see it on the big screen.

I also have to agree with Leonardo. Di Bonaventura seems to be giving it his all to appease the fans to the best of his abilites. I'm sure he'll never read this, but I thank him.
