New Reviews at AICN

A couple of new reviews have surfaced over at AICN. Both are pretty positive, the first offering more details than the second.

Seems like the buzz on the movie is continuing to be positive(even with the cavaet "for what it is" keeps popping up). I saw someone on the boards give a "Pirates 1" comparison, and I think it's apt... Pirates had fairly low expectations from the general audience, and so does Transformers("It's a theme park ride movie!" "It's a giant toy commercial!"). It sounds like we're getting a fun summer ride, at the very least.

EDIT: A link might help, huh?

I've yet to read a negative review of the film to be honest.

The 28th can't come soon enough!

Most of the whiners gave up quite awhile back. I think Hasbro is partly to blame with their "compromise" toys (read:half Baybots, half blockbots...all pretty damn sweet).

Honestly, the way they were screwing around with the bots' designs, most people were thinking this was going to turn out similar to Double Dragon, where not only do they look nothing like what was in the source material, but the story, characterizations, etc. were nothing but a mockery of what made the source awsome to start with. Various interviews, reassurances, positive screening tests...not to mention Peter Cullen's thumbs-up on Prime...has laid a lot of concerns to rest.....

.........but Megs & Screamer are still fugly..........

Yep as soon as I came into the fourm and flamed every one who whinned about it lol jk but i am trying to do that for the megatron leader class fig, Anyways back on topic this movie will probably break the highest money making film(god i hope so) I wonder how may screens it will be on? Any ways again i read both of the reviews i liked what they had to say.But still megatron is my favorite i like how he is a cybertronian vehicle to make his royalty stand out from the others.

I wasn't terribly encouraged by anything I read, but I'm just a "gee-one whiner." Boo-hoo, you all hurt my feelings. I'm gonna tell my mommy. But at least I'm not a Bay-toadie. Go swim with the sharks, sycophants!

I was hoping for more Starscream/Megatron bantering, but then there is always the sequel. Otherwise though, from what I've seen and heard, already best movie of the summer,( Though Live Free Diehard has yet to come out) Sorry, but I'm as much a Diehard fan as a Transfan, can't help it.

Yea it can't come soon enough. I have actually stopped fallowing some of the movie stuff, I think I have already seen to much.

I never had a problem with the story, or if it wasnt exactly G1. My biggest problem was the designs especially Starscreams robot mode. But after I saw the 3 minute second trailer.... all of my doubts went out the window, this movie is going to kick so much ass! Even my doubts of Starscream were gone.

The lesson here? Even non fans will give you purely subjective opinions. After all, that is all that entertainment and opinions are: Subjective.

opinions are like assholes, everyone has one, and they all stink!

now for my asshole...

both of those reviews come from non fans, even tho the second one compares the movie to G1, all I read from the second one is: "Its not a cartoon anymore...but it has big explosions! Explosions are cool!"

im biased, cus even if this movie sucks left testicle, I will still think it the greatest cus ive been waiting since I was 2 yrs old to see this done this way. The only review I have liked thus far is the one on this forum. granted it is full of spoilers, but I like it that way. cus it gives me a list of things that I want to pay extra attention to *like megan (what a) fox*. regardless of anyone's opinion on this movie, I will see it numerous times and buy the DVD and game when they are released. I have been waiting for someone to reinvent the transformers for a while, not saying that Bay did that (honestly, I think all he's good for is blowing stuff up in a movie and only focusing on one or 2 characters), but I have to give props to the people at ILM for the amount of detail in this movie. I will enjoy this movie just as anyone who has ever cared about transformers will too, and I will have my complaints as all of you will too.

Neither of those reviews come across as all that positive to me. It's like "yeah, she's not very bright at all and a total bitch but hey, she's got nice boobs! Go for it!". They just confirm what I assumed it was going to be like and why I've been so pessimistic. Quick-cuts and odd camera angles that make it difficult to make-out what you're watching during action scenes, silly over-the-top humor, very little story, "the illogical chases..., the crazy authority figure (John Turturro, in his worst role I have seen), the nonstop-shouting-as-witty-dialogue".

If you haven't seen a bad review yet, you might want to check the talkback. There's a very brief, very angry one that says basically the same as the 2 feutured reviewers... only with a different conclusion.

My point from day one. HOW THE HELL DOES "In short, the best stupid movie I have seen this summer." TRANSLATE INTO A POSITIVE REVIEW. If you honestly think thats positive then you sir are a apologist. Call me a Hater or what ever clever adjective you can up with but If you care about transformer how can you settle for "The best stupid movie of the summer". And If you agree with that summation when you see this movie and still thinks thats fine, Then we have a bigger problem. OK continue the circle jerk.

Agreed, it seems that all the reviews so far are A) from people that apparently know next to nothing about Transformers, B) readily admit that Megan Fox is nothing more than T&A spacefiller with zero acting ability (ohh shocker), C) that the movie is ripe with cheese dialogue & camp humor, D) that it has a paper thin plot which is forgettable at best or confusing because it's SO secondary, and E) that the F-List actors this movie is filled with do what they do best - second rate acting. The only "positive" things I've read are that the CGI looks good and it's action packed. So were Independence Day & Armageddon, but look at the substance of those movies - there was none. Saturday afternoon eye candy - yes. Something you'd watch because they're GOOD movies - no.

I still have high hopes for this movie, but I'm worried that we're all going to convince ourselves it ruled *because* it's TF, even though it might be a terrible film overall. I don't want conversations ala "yeah it's lame & cheesy, but it's fun". X-Men 1 & 2 were fun too, but they were also good movies with good acting & dialogue (for the most part). TF on the other hand already feels like it's going to be one of those "yeah it was terrible, but at least we got a movie" movies. And that is NOT the reaction I want to hear after 20+ years of waiting for something like this.

I know some will always look for any way to snatch failure from the jaws of success with this film, but honestly, it's like ice skating uphill at this point... It's the popcorn film of the summer.

The reviews average out with a 'great film' rating on the whole, given the law of averages and the fact that there will always be some people who hate it, that bodes very well for the film, no matter how you slice it.

Ultimately, I do think the reviews were positive. After all, when it was all said and done, they enjoyed the movie. And that's the whole point of going to these things.

I haven't made up my mind, one way or another. I know I'm going to go see it, and I know what I'm expecting and what I'm not expecting. I mean, the last reviewer was right. The movie's based on a toy line. Just about every incarnation of Transformers, from the G1 comics and show, down to the most recent stuff, hasn't been perfect. They've all had their goofy moments. They've had their weaknesses. But, at the same time, this is a property that can reinvent itself numerous times, and they haven't started to scratch the surface.

Besides, at the end of the day, if the movie is absolutely horrid, I still have the G1 and Beast Wars DVDs, the comics, etc. I'm out a few bucks and a few hours. No big.

I do think, though, all the positive reviews in the world aren't going to convince people who have a bad opinion of the film to change it. And negative reviews won't convince fans who want to judge it for themselves to NOT go see it. But I keep thinking of all the negativity surrounding the new Fantastic Four, and it's the ONLY movie I've seen this summer that people cheered at the end of.

you know, some people really dont care about plot or story, they just wanna be entertained. and it gets old seeing everyone imply people like that have no taste or nobody would wanna watch a movie like that. yes, i'm one of those....i just wanna be entertained.

and to use 2 examples shown here, i personally loved ID4 and Armageddon. I didnt go see those movies expecting awesome acting and brain inducing stories, i went to see cities get destroyed and cool effects/action and they delivered that for me. And i watch ID4 every now and then because i do think its good. Armageddon i dont own simply because i dont want a bare bones disc and the Criterion is next to impossible to find and usually 50$ or more when i do see it.

but yeah, if Transformers is just that, i'll be one person who'll be more than satisfied. i'm not trying to imply or put down those of you who have higher hopes and expections, everyone has their own ideas and likes but yeah.....people should stop acting like everyone thinks the same because they dont. lol

maybe my mind is stuck at 14yrs old or something but yeah...i'm sure if many people saw my DVD collection they'd be shocked one person would own all these so called "empty" and "bad movies lol

Okay...I also liked Independance Day and Armageddon. I don't really understand why people are bashing the plot of that movie. Here it is: Big asteroid. Oil drillers needed to drill hole to put nukes in asteroid so earth doesn't die. Bruce Willis dies to save the earth.

That's the plot. What do you expect from a movie about a giant asteroid? Please, people, be realistic. This kind of movie isn't about the plot, which I'm glad for, because after Pirates and Spiderman, both of which I liked, I've had about all the twisting and turning plots I can handle. I'm ready to simply be entertained by a movie this summer. This is looking like another 300, but with robots and humor. Bring it on.

I'll say to those who don't like Armageddon: go watch Deep Impact. (if you haven't)

Then tell us which one is, in an honest opinion, "good".
