ROTF vs DOTM

I'm on a roll right now so please bear with me.

I was thinking- is ROTF really better than DOTM? Hear me out. DOTM is very dark (for a Transformers movie) and much more violent. The over all tone I think is more serious than the previous which is fine but I think I sort of missed some of the more slapstick/humorous elements from ROTF.

Most of the humor in ROTF was crude and disgusting but there were a few moments that were genuinely funny to me. There are a couple in DOTM but not as many. I think ROTF has a much lighter tone than DOTM and makes it a little more "fun" if you will.

Personally I still think DOTM is a better Transformers film but I did miss that light-hearted tone found in the first two. Maybe striking a balance between the two is the best solution, if possible. I had more fun while watching ROTF. I was moved while watching DOTM (for the most part).

Which do you all prefer?

I think a comination of Wheelie and brains + Roadbuster's incredibly awesome accent made up for the lack of humor

Wheelie and Brains were MUCH better comic relief than Skids and Mudflap.

I thought DOTM was far better in pretty much all ways. I really liked the darker, more serious tone, and it still had some pretty funny parts. I thought it was funny enough. Wheelie and Brains were great, and there were some really funny parts with human characters as well, like when Sam was fighting with his car to get it to start. The TF movies are, after all, primarily action movies, not comedies, so it's not like they need to be extremely funny. I'm just really glad that the crude humor from ROTF was gone.

I was thinking the same thing too. I thought ROTF had a good balance of light and dark. DOTM was super light at the beginning, then in the middle it just got super dark out of nowhere. No middle ground. But I liked DOTM slightly better because...well, because I like the dark side.

I also liked that ROTF centered a lot more around the Decepticons than the Autobots and revolved around their plan. DOTM barely showed the Decepticons until the end.

I also liked the twins more than Wheelie and Brains. I wish they where in DOTM.

ROTF had it's dark moments......

Sinking the navy carrier, Introduction of the Fallen, Reviving of Megs, Death of Optimus, Sam being on the run.....

But I still like DOTM more, just wish they could have done something more with Shockwave, and Megs truck mode.

Don't forget Sam's death, and the entire Decepticon invasion scene. I also liked how his parents switch emotions at the end of the movie. It wasn't really dark, but I did like it.

Yes. TF movies shall not be like RED while RED's comedian part is well done.

I think ROTF's joke/fun parts were just trying to make to be fun, which were put in many unnecessary parts. While DOTM felt more natural way to mix in. Well, just my opinion.

Objectively, I’d rate ROTF the better-made of the two movies…I think a solid C for ROTF, but only C- for DOTM. DOTM struck me as having a lot of pacing problems and seemed very inconsistent in tone throughout, almost as though a couple of different directors and teams had worked on individual scenes, which then got slapped together in a hurry rather than carefully edited. ROTF was more preposterous, but uniformly so, and I thought it had a nice and lively, almost cheerful energy about it from start to finish. I got just as much entertainment value out of it as I got from the first movie and I never felt as though anything about ROTF needed changing—it was fine as it was. By contrast, there’s a lot about DOTM that I’d change, if I could. I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first two movies, only bits and pieces of it.

My feelings about DOTM are probably best summed up by paraphrasing that old rhyme about the little girl who had the little curl, ie. when DOTM was good it was very, very good, but when it was bad, it was horrid.

shockwave needed more of a fight with optimus, and definitly should of been more fight with optimus and megatron

Blame that on the marketing department. They needed a way to get you to buy the prequel comics and DotM videogame.

Back on topic however, I consider RotF and DotM tied overall with both surpassing the 2007 film.

I'd venture to say that if you cut out ALL of the retard comedy from ROTF.

- College stuff
- Random stuff in between key moments

ROTF would be a better film than DOTM and even though DOTM suffers from some of the same problems ROTF does. DOTM played off its comedy much better whereas ROTF it just derailed the movie more often than not.
