We have a few Transformers 4 updates to report this evening. First, IMAX chairman Greg Foster announced that Transformers 4 will use footage shot in IMAX. Expanding upon that, director Michael Bay revealed to Collider that he will be filming Transformers 4 using newly developed smaller IMAX digital cameras that also have 3D capabilities. He goes on to talk about Dolby Atmos, and states he is not interested in shooting at 48fps. We've embedded the interview below.

Over the last few years, IMAX has been quietly developing a smaller digital camera with amazing resolution. And while that would be great on its own…the new camera would also shoot in 3D! However, since no one had been talking about it recently, I figured IMAX was stuck trying to get the tech to work and it’d be years before we’d see it in action. I thought wrong. Tonight on the CinemaCon red carpet for Paramount’s presentation, Michael Bay told me he’s going to be shooting the big showcase scenes in Transformers 4 with the new, smaller IMAX 3D digital camera!

In casting news, ComingSoon.net is reporting that Michael Bay announced at Las Vegas' CinemaCon that Stanley Tucci will joining the cast of Transformers 4.

I was apprehensive when DotM was going to be 3D, but after seeing the film and the effort Bay put into making it look good I'm all for it in the sequels. He doesn't do things half assed, refusing to film in 3D unless he could get the guys that did Avatar's 3D technology for his own films.

Usually I'm of the mind he does them fully-assed. But maybe I'm just bitter because of the 3D. Can't stand it. And 3D IMAX? That just sounds like the recipe for a jumbled mess where you can't tell what the slag's going on half the time.

You didn't like the films but that doesn't change facts. DotM was the only 3D film worth the extra ticket cost. Avatar looked like a fake pastel painting on top of being a leftist wankfest and every other 3D film uses post-processing which is about as pretty as a turd on a plate. Inability to follow the action is a personal malfunction.

Sounds very interesting. DOTM is still the best 3D movie I've seen so far, so implementing new technology for the sequal can't be a bad thing.
