Just one day after Michael Bay himself offered an update on the soon-to-shoot Transformers 4, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura spoke with MTV about the future of the series and dropped hints that Bay's departure from the franchise after the fourth film is far from a done deal.

"I can't speak for Michael," di Bonaventura says, "I would hope he would [stick around]. It would be great. There's certainly something, in our design of this, that's going to be an ongoing story... As long as the audience shows up for us, there's a lot of stories still to be told."

He also spoke about the plans to relaunch the franchise with brand-new characters while maintaining the continuity of the first three films.

"There's a lot of new elements," he says. "I wouldn't say that we completely changed this world and yet it's completely different. There are new characters. There are new situations. I don't think we revisit a single location."

Transformers 4 is set to star Mark Wahlberg and Jack Reynor and will hit theaters on June 27, 2014.

First up, Rodimus Prime's ComingSoon.net find:

Followed by ElDuque's ComicBookMovie.com's find:

The producer discusses Michael Bay's fourth Transformers movie, commenting on the possibility of it kicking off a new trilogy, revealing that not a single location from the last three films has been revisited, and much more.

Paul Romano - 2/4/2013

Speaking with MTV, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura talks about the next Transformers movie from director Michael Bay, who calls it the first film of a brand new trilogy. When asked about the chances of more Transformers films from Bay, he expresses his hopes to see the helmer continue working on the series and that we'll definitely see more should audiences continue to come in. "Well, I can't speak for Michael. I hope he would. It would be great. But it's certainly something that, in our design of this, it's gonna be an ongoing story. And so, as long as the audience shows up for us, there's a lot of stories to be told." Additionally, he comments on the fourquel's new setting, which he says it's completely different from the last three movies despite being set in the same world. "There's a lot of new elements. I wouldn't say that we've completely changed this world, yet it's completely different. And there are new characters, new situations, I don't think we've revisited a single location. Michael has a really great way of approaching this." Bonaventura then refuses to discuss the possibility of some outer space action scenes ("I would never tell you that if it was true."), and also says that those who enjoyed the first three Transformers will certainly find things to like about this new installment, which begins shooting in May.

Transformers 4 stars Mark Wahlberg and Jack Reynor. The film is set to hit theaters June 27th, 2014.

So, is it a reboot? Is it a same universe redirect/sequel? We might not know until opening day, folks. For any news and updates, keep your optics tuned to Seibertron.com!

I've never really complained about these movies before, but unless TF4 gives a lot more attention to the Transformers and not the dang humans, I definately want Michael Bay to go. I don't go to see TRANSFORMERS to watch the camera focus in on humans hiding and breathing heavily while only seeing giant robot legs duke it out in the streets. In fact, just go Bay. Just go! :BANG_HEAD:

yeah but these people have their own vision of what they want it to be they will never give us what we want in a transformers movie so we'll be forced to watch a movie that has flamboyant paint jobs and glitter and these robots will have nipples on them and it will be fabulous........NOT! seriously if they go the route like with rodimus and galvatron then maybe
but i doubt it they should have stopped with three and left it, i'm afraid that this new triligy will change the way newcomers to the TF world will perceive it and it will be so dramatically different that nothing recognizable about TF's will remain........... i hope i'm wrong

I won't be surprised if he's still here for TF7 or 8. As long as there's money to be made and Paramount believes he can deliver, why rock the boat and fix what ain't broke?

Doesn't matter what praises are sung or curses are hurled, it's the ticket sales that do the talking. If and when there comes the day when the audience tires of either Bay or TF's, all the praises by critics and fans alike won't stop Paramount from tossing both director and franchise in the trash bin like a soiled diaper.

As for TF4, I'll save my judgment for when I've already watched it.

Won't be going to see #4, that's for sure. Sick and tired of these haphazard pieces of scrap posing as movies. They're so sloppy the animators end up making the robots do completely nonsensical zig-zag car flips and building-checks just to fit the explosions Bay rigged. I can only hope the rest of the world throws in the towel on this one, too, so they finally ditch him and his crew and start looking for people who actually know how to do more than make sand explode while people are running, like say, tell a story.
Want: Universe Astrotrain, Ratchet, Jetfire.

Have for trade: RTS Lugnut, Perceptor, Jazz, Wreck-gar, Tracks, Laser Prime, Bumblebee; Generations Warpath, Kup, Blurr, Thundercracker, Wheeljack, Dirge; RTS Legends Megatron, Starscream, Optimus Prime, Gold Bumblebee, Prowl, and Trailcutter; Animated voyager Shockwave, Blitzwing, and Skywarp.

For me, it's not so much about the Transformers over the humans. I think people asking for that are reaching for the stars.

Baby steps, people! First, we need a freaking coherent plot. If Michael Bay can cobble together a movie that actually makes sense, or at least can suspend disbelief for a minute or two, I would consider that a success.

Second, take out the base humor/appeal. No more butt shots, or slow running cleavage shots (although as an impressionable 20-something male, I must admit that I can live with it), or racist/slap-stick humor.

Then - and only then - when the franchise can be taken seriously by a broader audience as legit sci-fi, can we focus on the robots.

I mean... :michaelbay:

It will probably... :michaelbay:

Never happen... :michaelbay:

Ugh... :michaelbay:
Looking for:

-Universe Smokscreen
