I just preordered the 30th anniversary MP Voltron. I was curious for those that have it already if the know what the dimensions of the packaging is off hand? Strange request, I know... I'm not even sure what the 30th box will look like, I think they packaged it differently for different releases of it.

I'm not sure there really is a definitive Voltron out there yet, but I think the die cast is what I like about it, it is like a more articulated version of the 80's die cast toy.

This seems to have flown under the radar. I wonder what the final size will be. He looks gigantic, even next to the 30" jumbo Voltron.

I saw this as well. Love Voltron and currently own the Matty Collector version. $300.00 is crazy steep otherwise I would be saving were it not for TF purchases I want to make this year.

This looks incredible. I really wish it was 12" instead of 18", but I have no complaints otherwise.

Next to TF, Voltron was my next favorite cartoon growing up. I spend enough money on TF, but would really like 1 nice Voltron set. Any recommendations?

Can someone explain why Toynami and Bandai both make Voltron toys? What are the major differences between the two? I noticed Toynami has a few versions as well, which is confusing to me. And Bandai has the SoG version coming out, which looks amazing. While I love the Netflix series, I'm not sure Playmates version is an option given the low quality of toys I've seen from them.

Bandai does it better x 100!

Anyone know if there's any plans on making Voltron figures based on the Netflix cartoon? I mean, I know the current design isn't exactly a far cry from the original, but still.

Quick question. I saw this in the description for the SoC Golion: "Voltron, defender of the universe returns! the single best-selling character in the history of the chogokin series is back...."

I'm not familiar with the different iterations of Voltron/Golion from Bandai. So there have been other previous versions within this line? So I take it this is the "definitive" version from Bandai, their equivalent of Masterpiece?

Took the plunge and preordered SOC Voltron from Woozymoo. $279.99 + no tax + free shipping. Best domestic price I could find and I believe it's comparable to the Japanese retailers when factoring in shipping.

Stopped by a Toys R Us by me and stumbled onto the new Voltron toys from Playmates. It looked pretty terrible.

FYI Amazon is going to have SOC Voltron shipped and sold by them for $299.99. That means 2-day shipping and a domestic release. I'm going to go that route since with Amazon gift cards I can get it for much less than $300.

I ordered mine from Eknightmedia.com. They had a pre-order price of $267 w/no tax and free shipping. I was wary but some members from another forum vouched for them and it's also a Google trusted store. They just received their inventory as they sent me an invoice and their website shows it as available, and the figure is back at full price.

Woozymoo still has it at the discounted pre-order price of $280, also free shipping and no tax.

That sounds good but I need to use Amazon gift cards to afford the big guy.

Picked up Legendary Defender Legendary Black Lion at Walmart for $30 Monday morning. He's a really great figure, definitely suitable for both collecting and playing around with. It's super sturdy with lots of hard plastic, has a ton of articulation and clicky ratchet joints including some nice points in the wings, has a super bright LED in the chest, and a really loud speaker. The paint is perfect on the one I bought and there are a lot of nicely painted details, but I can certainly see where people would want to be cautious. The giant non-combining Voltron action figure had abysmal paint apps with lots of over and under spray and the basic figures just plain lacked paint, but my Black Lion is perfect. He is missing a couple painted details like the black rings around his joints and the gray panels on the sides of his wings, but he looks fine without them.

Only a few negatives: The SFX are good, but the voice clips aren't from the show, they're newly recorded and not so great. The Speeder is pointless and looks like a lump of black plastic. And the front legs have a block in them so they can't be rotated forward thanks to the electronics in them preventing a 360 degree rotation. He can be straight legged in the front and not much else so no easy way to do flying poses with the front legs extended out. On the bright side the rear legs have TONS of articulation, mainly for Voltron, including hip pivots and thigh swivels. He can't do a sitting or crouching pose, but he can do others.

Yeah, I'm totally sold on collecting the other four. I'll be passing on the rest of the line unless I can find them for even cheaper. Hopefully they make the pilots into figures, looking forward to seeing what Toy Fair brings!

I share similar sentiments about Transformers and Voltron. I def want the whole combining set. I picked up the Green Lion from Target today and I'm expecting the Black Lion from BBTS tomorrow. Sold some toys to a local comic shop so I'm hoping to go back tomorrow night and get another Lion. Can't wait for season 2! :D

My SOC Voltron arrives on Tuesday. I was really hoping to have it in time to play with over the long weekend, so this wait is going to be super tough. I haven't been this excited about a toy since I was a kid. As much as I love TFs, I didn't have a lot of the toys growing up so the emotional attachment isn't as strong. My parents surprised the heck outta me one Christmas with a Voltron figure, so Voltron will always be special to me.

And yea, I love the new Netflix series and can't wait for season 2! Not a huge fan of the Playmates figures, but wouldn't mind picking it up if it was heavily discounted, which probably isn't likely.

Received the Legendary Black Lion in the mail. I truly love this figure. Heading to Target to see if I can find the Blue, Red, or Yellow Lion at Target tonight.

Have you handled one of the combining Lions yet? They don't feel like anything Playmates has ever done before. It's proper hard plastic with Transformers-style tight ratchet joints all around. At least that's how the Black Lion is, I haven't found the limb Lions yet. Looks like their legs are hollow, but we're Transformers fans, we're used to that.

I'm actually a little more impressed with theses over the 24" Mattel Voltron for their size and cost.

No I haven't but glad to hear the quality is better than I expected. I'd probably only pick it up if on sale.

I was able to pick up the Red, Blue, and Yellow Lions from Walmart the other night. I now have all of the combining Legendary Lions. So far I've only opened the Green and Blue in tems of the limbs. Very solid ratcheting joints and articulation is nice. So happy to have these guys!!!! :D

Finally got SOC Voltron! It's my first (and probably only) SOC figure. Haven't gotten a chance to play with it yet, but I am very impressed. The first thing I noticed is the weight. Can't wait to spend more time with this.
