FoC W2 deluxes are $17.49 at my local TRU, luckily I had a Shopkick coupon for $10 off so I "only" paid $15.49 each.

I expect to pay more at TRu but if WM/Target start charging over $15 for a deluxe it will certainly affect my buying habits considering they also shrunk the size.

When I saw that Shockwave was $14.99 a couple weeks ago, for such a small toy that had as much plastic content as some Star Wars and G.I. Joe figures, I knew that I would most likely not be collecting Deluxe Class anymore and put it back on the peg.

I don't care what the justification is, if I feel like I'm getting robbed, I'm not going to buy it. Shockwave is one of my ultimate favorite characters, but I'll be damned if I pay $14.99 for it, much less these new even more insane prices!

Cutting out the (Dwarfed) Deluxes will just save me money to pursue other items that I want anyway.

As with ANY other facet of daily life, if (fill in the blank) isn't worth the money to you, then by all means vote with your wallet and let it rot.

I don't think Hasbro is playing the blame game. Just economic doodoo.

Deluxes are still $14.99 here in Utah, at least in the Salt Lake City area. I find that incredible, since when the DOTM line came out last year, those Deluxes were selling for $9.99 each. Voyager prices have stayed relatively stable in that same time. And it just boggles my mind because the plastics aren't much better, if at all.

Well.. I live in Brazil, and since Beast Wars the deluxe price has not changed... IT was always R$60,00 which equals to approximatelly 30 Dollars... Buuuut counting shipping, taxes and all, it's a fair price... Even more so when transformers copies go around for R$40,00... And the price has not changed here, at least not yet...

Voyagers however get their price changed constantly... By the way, there are MANY first edition Optimus Prime and Bulkheads around here going for about R$100,00 (About 50 bucks)

Well, I know what my first step is going to be. I will sell my Prime toys which aren't either g1 inspired or which don't strike me as awesome. Then I will stick with only buying the stuff I really, really love like Generations.

But with the rate of "pricing" I won't ever be buying anything which comes along outside of my own biggest likes at this point. No more movie or cartoon lines for me.

But, seeing I only have one Prime Autobot and three Decepticons, I want to at least balance it out before I narrow my collecting shenanigans.

From Oregon here, I'm on again off again with TF's, and gave Prime a shot, after hearing good reviews of it. I went to a nearby Target the other day to see what they had and their price was about the same as in the pic. I decided to check my Walmart and settled for a $15 FOC Soundwave. What's the deal, I got the WFC toys back when they were out for cheaper, and they seem bigger...

I'm from WA state and my local Target is selling their FoC figures for around $14.99

Up from $13.99 last month.

hook line and sinker wrote:Well, I have some insight into this situation, but the last time I even vaguely referred to it in a post on a fansite(wasn't this one, mind you) the post was immediately edited for having a "political opinion". But since it isn't a "political" opinion, but rather a result of economic cause and effect as inevitable and mechanistic as "rising gas prices" or "supply and demand", both of which are already mentioned in this thread, I will try to post it here to add to the discussion.

But before I drop my two cents, let me acknowledge several above mentioned factors as being contributors to this scenario.

1. Rising gas prices. Yep, that's affecting shipping and therefore price rates.

2. Supply vs Demand. I am sure this affects the price of the toys at least a little. At places like TRU for instance. But not nationally across the whole board. It will hit TRU(who just raised the price of MPTC 5 bucks, just like they did Rodimus after his initial shipment sold out) and the now Ebay rific online shops.

In my area the prices have increased on deluxes more in the last 8 months than they did in all of 2011. In fact, the percentage of increase in 2011 is more than the total increase between 2008-2010. It is also happening with other commodities, like cheap store brand foods and pet foods. In my own marketing dept I witnessed a 40 pound bag of dog food which had been 18.99 for longer than anyone can remember go to being a 35 pound bag for 25.00 OVERNIGHT. In another sector we saw organic natural cereals reduce the size of their boxes by 50 percent while the price staid the same.

These examples are there to illustrate that this phenomenon is by no means whatsoever isolated to toys. It's happening everywhere, in everything, because of the process of monetary devaluation known as "Quantitative Easing". What QE actually is, is INFLATION. More money is printed than there is any value to back and the value of the dollar decreases. So the cost of that toy hasn't truly risen. The value of your money has been deliberately decreased and so for the dollar, it takes more greenbacks to afford it. And unlike food distribution, it takes a lot longer for something like a toyline to roll with the economic punches. The average size of the next year's worth of deluxes has already been set in stone, for instance, so it will be the next line before they shrink enough that 15 American dollars will buy one again.

This process was done in two waves following the 2008 crash to prop up the markets and keep stability, but the newest round is being called "an unlimited devaluation" by the world's leading trends forecasters. In other words, we are beginning to see the first signs of Hyperinflation. You may want to look into what happens when an economy reaches that by the way.

The next round of commodities scheduled to appear to increase in price mostly fall into the food category. In fact, all the information I've seen forecasts a tripling of "food prices" in January, when the inflation rate will meet the drought of this past summer.

As a Market Trends Watcher, I have taken note that this year saw the introduction of a beefed up Cyberverse line and heavily marketed tiny toys like the botshots and the Kreo Microchangers. In my opinion, this is where American Tfs distribution is going. Hasbro is looking for something very small to match the value of our purchasing power to market in the future, if anything at all, and these are examples of testing the waters. Especially the CV line.

This is a great post. Thank you for taking the time to share these insights with us. And welcome to Seibertron.com by the way!

I want to pick up the remainder of the Prime line and import some from the Arm Micron line . I mean, I literally want every single figure in the line except Shadow Strike Bumblebee, mainly to complete my in-show cast, and because I like the others. Not a fan of Kup, but I'm going to need him if I'll be importing Ironhide. I'll need dual cannons instead of that cheap AM.

So this price hike is really going to affect me in that regard.

Afterwards, I'm cutting down myself. I only want four figures from the FoC/Generations line, and I already have two of them. This price jack-up is just icing on the cake.

I can't say things are going to get better.

Sorry that you're gunna be hurt from this. :-(

I plan on getting Bumblebee and Ratchet (if I can ever find him). MaybeWheel jack. Might get Dreadwing and FE Bulkhead whenever it comes out. After those, that's the end of Prime for me if these prices are going to be jacked up in the future.

My local TRU actually lowered their prices.

They were selling their FoC deluxe for $15.99 a few weeks ago. When I went back, they were down to $13.99

Unless they were on sale....

Ah yes, the FEs. I'm going to try and get Bumblebee offline, but all I want there is Optimus and Bulkhead. As long as they don't jack the price up on Voyagers too drastically, I should have no problem obtaining them :D

Yeah, it's just my tendency to try to collect the really cool lines that do pop up when the distribution is great and such. But now the terrible distribution for Prime and the unbelievable prices means I have to jettison all the "extras" I put into my collection besides my first love, which is Chugs...

And that really sucks because I do like the Prid line, but finding them has been as hard as finding RTS was in some cases, and now the added cost nukes it. I'm not a strict Gwunner by any means, preferring to add new themes and stuff all the time, but now I'm being forced into narrowing my interests.

Epic post of epic epicness. HasBLO depends on completists and others buying everything with the TF logo on it. Break the cycle, save some time, money, and space, and ONLY buy the few things that actually impress you! Sooner or later, the big H will either give up (yeah right) or actually be forced to bring quality and value back into the line!

Thank you. Just- thank you.

I've never been fond of the deluxe class...I traditionally like voyager sized figures most (I feel for whoever said we need the whole cast at these sizes). I can't afford the deluxes even if I wasn't turned off, like others, by the various other changes (size, paint, etc.). Generations USED to be the exception for me - I have Percy, Drift, Jazz, and Warpath staring down at me from the PS2 on high (and I have Scrapheap and a few others elsewhere), and I would've had more of those if I made more money in their timespan on the shelves. But I only have two PRID deluxes. Wheeljack and soundwave. great molds, but the size simply doesn't do it for me. especially since I have voyager megs and scream. soundwave is miniature, even standing on the driller set next to scream. There's just no getting around it so....sad face.

And don't get me started on Bruticus. People may say Brawl is my favourite character but I'm not buying that figure once it finally releases here. I'm actually more interested in Swindle JUST FOR HIS CARD ART. yeah. I'll just go play the game more and build more costumes. The figures won't add anything to my experience anymore. :(
