ironhide would make a brilliant next 'prime' he is a solider, just like optimus was when he started off as leader, he knows about how to fight in a war and makes a great role model for all those fellow autobots, sure optimus's death would startle him, but he would also understand that its in war, lives are lost and that one most continue on to victory, no matter the cost

As far as I'm concerned, no one could ever replace Optimus Prime, he's strong, courageous, and is caring for his Autobot brethren and is willing to make the tough decision when he is needed to, all qualities that make an effective leader. Optimus isn't invincible so there's likely to come a time when he dies and someone else will need to take up his spot as leader and among the Autobots, there are plenty of good choices. The one I would appoint leader of the Autobots if Optimus died or was to be put out of commission would definitely be Ironhide. Ironhide is one of the oldest Autobots around and as such, has experienced quite a lot and as we all know, with age comes wisdom, Ironhide is also a skilled warrior and could be somewhat of a mentor to the younger Autobots in the art of combat. Ironhide isn't to confident in his skills as a leader and thinks of himself as more of a soldier but I truly believe, that if given the chance, Ironhide would be an effective leader.

As I peruse the list of eligible contenders, only 3 are truly prominent: Ironhide, Jazz, and Jetfire.

Ironhide would seem the most likely. A highly respected, experienced, war veteran, old world philosophy, and the kind of bot you would share a pint of oil with at maccadams. However, I think Ironhide would think too much with his spark, and not with his logic circuits. A leader has to have a strategy, think critically, and make sacrifices in the name of the greater good, and unfortunately, I believe, he would rather sacrifice himself first.

Then there's Jetfire, the scientist. Much like his counterpart Shockwave he is able to put aside all "feelings" and make critical decisions, ones that will surely lead to victory, but lose morale points, as he sends his plasma-cannon fodder comrades into the field from his perch in Iacon. Sometimes the cold, hard, calculated approach doesn't always get the job done when it comes to a war of attrition, and you need your bots to rally behind you.

That leaves my choice, Jazz. I believe him to be the perfect mix. As Special Ops commander he has the ability to strategize, adapt, innovate, all the while keeping a cool head. He has the respect of his teammates and can throw a wicked party. Plus, wouldn't you love to see what he would look like after he receives his Matrix upgrade!
(some concept art would be greatly appreciated from all you talented folks out there)
Although I know Jazz Prime souds lame, he makes the best choice, and you all know it :P

Jazzmeister will make an excellent Prime. He's got wit, savvy and excellent battlefield improvisation skills. In G1 lore, he's Optimus' right hand man with Prowl being the trusted of his advisors, so based on Prowl's advise, Optimus ,he'd logically go then to Jazz to carry have him carry them out right(the advise that is)? A great battle field commander/leader would also benefit from an individual who is greatly familiar with a local planets culture and easily adapts to it.
Last but not the least, his name sounds so cool......even back in 1984

I would like see ironhide as a leader, but i think that the most capable of them could be Jetfire. However, I choose Warpath, because he got qualities of a leader, he´s young and the one thing he needs is more experience. Also Warpath seems to be strong and he likes the battles, those kind of things can make a good leader during the years (or in this case milleniums). So that´s my choice, Warpath: the perfect leader if he were older.

In my personal opinion, this list is very limited to possible primes if our beloved Optimus took yet another fall, but if I were to chose, i would take the low road and call out a name: Ratchet. Ratchet is veteran, like Ironhide, but has more experience dealing with fellow autobots, whereas Ironhide's main work is with remodeling the headsculpts of decepticons. Ratchet is even who Optimus trusts with his life when we first meet this not-quite-Optimus Prime.

And if i were given a second choice, i would follow Jetfire for his history on and off the field, his knowledge of the battlefield, and his well-mannered spark.

in the war for cybertron universe, i think bumblebee would be the best replacement for prime. as soon as the autobot campaign started we first see bumblebee fighting the decepticons. he was there with no back-up taking them on, then prime shows up.
bumblebee went along the entire journey undertaken by prime in the game, from the kaon prison break, to the core of cybertron, to fighting trypticon in the end. he was there. allways wanting to take on the decepticons. he showed alot of heart & courage, throught the game.
plus when the war for cybertron figures came out, it was bumblebee that was launched along with prime. so if prime does die the successor should be bumblebee prime.

Jetfire/Skyfire would be the logical choice.

Jetfire is the best strategist on the list out side of Prime. Yes Jazz is the better covert officer and Ironhide is good at seeing things from a defensive point but over all Jetfire can see the whole picture. With jetfire you have some one big enough to go toe to toe with the larger cons and the maneuverability to get a crossed the battle field unencumbered by terrain.

He would need to have Jazz as a second in command, Ironhide as security chief, Warpath as seige master and Silverbolt as the Ariel commander.

I vote Air Raid. That guy is always left out and only known to most as a limb for their superion. He might be an intresting character to build on and would lead to fun and whacky missions sometimes.

If not Ultra Magnus or Rodimus, I would believe Ironhide is the best choice. Being a war veteran has it's advantages, especially knowing the battlefield. He my not sound the best, but Ironhide's experience, wisdom, and tough personality can let him lead armies if he had the chance. Yes, I'm sure some of the others would make a decent Autobot leader. But the more you know from the past, the more you can do for the future. That is why I believe Ironhide is the best choice. :BOT:

My vote would go towards Silverbolt. Sure, the guy is afraid of heights, but he's the leader of the Aerialbots. He already obviously has some leadership experience, even if it is just leading a band of four other robots instead of the entire Autobot faction. Also, like any robot, he's courageous, which any leader needs. Except when it comes to heights, but we've seen eventually he DOES learn to overcome it, and what kind of leader would he be if he couldn't overcome his own fears? He's also one of the few flying Autobots, so that makes him pretty unique too. Even if it were just a temporary position, I think he'd shine amongst his brethren.

I say Silverbolt. Despite his fear of heights, he does command the Aerialbots. He also can fly, an advantage for a leader to face Megatron. Silverbolt is very caring for his allies. He is also very patriotic. Go Silverbolt!

Jazz
Jetfire

First off, if we follow the game/book story where the Matrix Doesn't bestow extra strength, power and Knowledge, this is how it owuld go....
First, Bumblebee. He is too young and Inexperienced to be a full fledged Leader.
Arcee would be hard, considering in the G1 story line, she was neither a good fight nor had the potential to lead. Though in the Movie Comics she was a leader, she wasn't a very good one.
When it comes to Air Raid, Warpath, and Sideswipe are all too headstrong and Inexperienced. Leadership under them would cause the Autobot's Destruction.
Since the G1 Scattorshot, was a minor character and Just part of a lightly used combiner, there is the believe that he is just a soldier and a Follower, not a leader.
Silverbolt was a Leader of a team in G1, but was insecure one and wouldn't be able to handle leading an Entire Army.
Ratchet would be a Good Candidate, but would refuse it outright. He has the experience but He's a healer and would never take a position which would include choosing who would live and who died.
Ironhide is another Good Choice, but he's a true Warrior. The Doesn't think in battles, he just fights....that's it.
This leaves Jazz and Jetfire....

So My Choice as Optimus's successor.....is Jazz.
While Jetfire has leadership qualities, strength, experience....Jazz has already been a leader. While Not leading the Whole Army, he is known as Optimus's second in command and has already made High level decisions. While he wouldn't want the title, he is the best choice for a new Prime.

In the list you gave, it's really only Ratchet and dare I say, Air Raid.

Ironhide, Jazz, Sideswipe, and Warpath are all great soldiers. They know their role, they're great fighters, they are the ones you turn to to get things done. However, putting them in charge actually takes away one of those assets from the Autobots.

Silverbolt, while not a leader of the Aerialbots in this game, is generally disliked and wouldn't make a great leader with that going against him.

Bumblebee and Scattorshot are decent situational members, but leaders they're not.

Jetfire would have been inspired, but because of his scientist background he may not be the best candidate. Plus given that he was allied at one point in time with Starscream, that could inspire mutiny in the ranks as Autobots could perceive him as a Decepticon sympathizer. Not exactly the thing you wan in your leader.

Which brings us back to Ratchet and Air Raid. Ratchet is universally recognized as an authority right now. While probably not the greatest military mind of the bunch, that could be supported by Jazz and Ironhide prior to a battle's start. Air Raid is a strong warrior, decent leader, and would be interesting if the leader of the Autobots could go toe-to-toe with a Decepticon seeker.

Once I saw and read the name of the contest I immediately thought Arcee. She is the original female Transformer, she is also most loved I'd say by all her male counterparts. Her examples of leadership have been seen especially in her movie character which semi-translates into her WFC character. Also having a female leader would certainly be interesting as she would have to prove herself and be a bad mamma jamma to keep the guys in check.

Silverbolt is generally disliked? I've never seen any evidence of this in any incarnation.

Arcee is not the first female TF? Who is?

The title of Prime seems to indicate a leader of a fighting force who balances strategy, action on the field, and inspiration to the troops. What Zeta lacked (and what Optimus has in spades) is heart...he directs the tenants of what it mean to be a Prime by focusing his heart on the aspects of leadership: courage, self-sacrifice, and a willingness to know when to fight and when to put the gun away and try something less direct and violent.

Therefore my choice for the next Prime would be Bumblebee. Although he's a scout by trade and one of the weakest Autobots (physically) his heart is as incorruptible as Optimus' is. He always aspires to be greater than the sum of his parts, and no one would doubt his courage under fire. Good second choices would be Jazz, Arcee or Silverbolt, but Bumblebee (in most of his itinerations, except for the Bayformer version) has always struck me as someone who has never let his size dictate what he is capable of. His limitations ground him but he does not...ever...let that be an excuse for him to be anything less than all he can be.

The logical choice would be HotRod since the game usees alot of G1 references but since hes not listed i guess i cant pick him so i need to pick another. Arcee would be an interesting choice but since she wasnt in the story we didnt get to see her personality or how she handles under combat situations so shes out. Silverbolt already has leadership experience and did a pretty good job but hes already the leader of a squad and dont think hed do so well leading the entire autobot army plus it seems hes petty new to it so hes out to. Then i thought Ironhide, hes a soldier just like prime was, he led autobots into battle and succeed, and he has alot of the same characteristic as prime but his main flaw, we all know Ironhide tends to shoot first and ask questions later. That would work for a Decepticon but not a Prime so hes gone to. Then i thought Skyfire i mean jetfire, He is 100% loyal to the autobots, he shown that he would give his life to save cybertron, he has the intelligence, strength, and charisma that would be needed as a leader and he carries himself well as a commander. And all the times we see him you can tell the other autobots trust and respect him. So i think that Jetfire would be the best choice to take over after Prime dies well at least until Optimus comes back cause we all know he will, damn whiny kids.

But on another note that would be my choice as an autobot or just a standard outside observer but seeing as how im a Decepticon, my choice would be watpath. He'd lead the autobots to their doom in a few cycles and thats what we Decepticons want.

As far as I am concerned, Ironhide is the only choice. Jetfire is too cautious, Bumblebee is to quick to run in head first. He has seen the most action, and it doesnt hurt he has been my favorite character since G1, lol. Look at it another way, they did not do Ironhide justice, reusing a mold, and not actually giving his toy a head either(G1). He wants retribution!
