Warhammer: Space Marine

Anyone else pick up this title for the big 3?

I'm a huge fan of the source material so it was a no brainer for me.

Speaking of no brains, the game is fun, but totally hack and slash, and too linear. I really think it would benefit from some freedom or a sandbox environment.

What does everyone else think so far?

I saw part of a walkthrough and the combat looks way too simple for me.

It is.

The combo are nice, but the combat is pretty clumbsy. I wish I could give my fellow Asartes orders. They are totally useless. They take down the occasional baddie, but not much. It doesn't help that EVERY major enemy aggros ME only...

I wish the Warhammer games would shine the spotlight on something other than Chaos once in a while. Why don't the Tyranids or Necrons get any love?

...because Space Marines players are probably >50% of the people that play 40k.

In regards to the game, I played the demo and it felt like a poor man's Gears of War/War For Cybertron, so I really feel that paying the big $60 is a bit silly. I'll wait another year if I have to until it's in the bargain bin.

I know that, but I said Chaos. Chaos seems to be the main antagonist in everything and I'd like to see someone else get some recognition as a threat.

I wouldn't mind that either, but I'm sure they're just doing Chaos so that they can set a grounds.. as this is the first sort of Space Marine TPS in the Warhammer 40k Universe. (I think?) I'm sure if the game does well, then they'll branch off into other things. Wouldn't mind if they continued the Tau Firewarrior series.

Well, Chaos is the largest threat to the galaxy, barring the incoming full Tyranid fleet possibly.

But, I agree, Eldar, Dark Eldar, and Nercons should get some love too!

True, it does look like a rip off of GOW. I haven't really thought of that until now!

Anyway, the price is stupid. Plain and simple. It is just like Star Wars Battlefront 2, you go to the store to buy a flipping expensive game and BOOM just like that its in a CD Case for $10 at Toys R Us!

I can agree on the linear part, but was War For Cybertron so different?

No, but once again, my love for the source material has blinded my judgment.

True Dat!

I'll wade shoulder deep into Greenskins, calmly firing my Kraken Bolter and come out unscathed in my Mark VII power armour!

Iron Halo FTW!

Bought it. Loved it. (I'm a sucker for the IP though)
It has some short comings, but I really enjoyed it and can't wait to see the sequel - which will undoubtedly be longer, more polished, and more involved.

I thought the combat was very smooth (not clumbsy/clunky) - though it is not the most involved. And yes, the AI guys don't do too much...

Multiplayer has been a blast though. I love that you can copy the load out of the guy who off'd ya.
