Seconded. I want this figure so much but eBay prices are always wallet rape. Those thighs are just...kissable.

Another category entry would be "The Evil MILF" (Ragyou Kiryuin being the ur-example). For that I'd pick Transmetal 2 Blackarachnia (no pics as I'm on my Vita). It's a shame she tends to have rather loose joints because design wise she's awesome. I reckon the ball joints could be easily fixed with a little superglue but the waist joint's kicking gimmick (which probably worked great back in the day to be fair) makes tightening the waist a rather gloomy prospect. I reckon tightening a few screws or maybe disassembling her and tightening the gears (removing the gimmick but giving her a proper waist swivel) would solve the problem though, and I still want one.

ZeroWolf and I have planned another fun game. With the 30th anniversary winding down, we wanted to ask what you find are the top 3 molds from the mass release toylines throughout the years so far. Though I did my best to separate and group the toylines, feel free to alter it if you need to. The fun thing is that since molds are reused, if ever there are simply too many to choose from for one line, you have the chance to use it for a line with the recurring mold. Just have fun.

I will start

Top 3 molds of the following Toylines:

G1/G2 : Dreadwing + Smokescreen G2, Predaking, Optimus Prime G1
Image

Beast Era (BW I and II, BM, BWN): Megatron, Depthcharge, Bonecrusher
Image

RID (2001) : Megatron, Air Attack Optimus Primal, Side Burn
Image

Armada : Unicron, Tidal Wave (I have the Energon redeco), Megatron
Image

Energon : Divebomb, Megatron, Sharkticon
Image

Cybertron : Ultra Jetfire, Primus, Vector Prime (and so many more!!!!!!)
Image

Masterpiece + Alternators: Lambor (MP 12), Alternators Decepticharge, Megatron (MP 05)
Image

CHUG before 2010 (Classics, Universe, United, Henkei) : Classics Seeker mold (my favourite is Thrust from Gentai! Gentail!), Ultra Onslaught, Universe Cyclonus
Image

CHUG since 2010 (Generations + RTS+ FOC) : Optimus Prime (WFC), Warpath, Voyager Springer
Image

Movie first trilogy (2007, ROTF, HFTD, DOTM, HA) : Bludgeon, Mindwipe (I have the Strafe redeco), Leader Starscream
Image

Movie second trilogy (AOE) : Evasion Mode Optimus Prime, Slog, Deluxe Drift
Image

Animated : Deluxe Lockdown, Rodimus Minor, Voyager Bulkhead
Image

Prime (First Edition, Prime RID, Beast Hunters) : First Edition Starscream, RID Vehicon, Beast Hunters Voyager Ultra Magnus

Now for my list, there won't be any pictures as it takes ages on my phone but I will explain my choices. So bear with me :)

G1/G2: Grimlock, Metroplex and Piranhacon.

Grimlock was one of the earliest transformers I can remember playing with and was just a really fun figure :) piranhacon is here cause he's the most cohesive of the combiners (next to Predaking and computron)

Beast Wars: Magnaboss, Terrasaur (actually any of the basic molds they are all terrific) Dragon Megatron.

Magnaboss was one of the Beast Wars toys I really wanted when I was younger. His appearance gives off a native American vibe or a tribal warrior. Different aspects of his component beasts are put to great effect.

RiD: optimus prime, Mega bolt Megatron and RiD Megatron.

Optimus is a clear winner here a strong unified appearance a fun transformation. A good range of poses (well until he gets to his super mode. Mega Bolt Megatron gets in on the fact he's the most screen accurate Megatron the beast Machines line never got.

Right that'll have to do for now as my phone is dying but I've got some good choices lined up for the Unicron Trilogy ;)

This was fun.
I imposed one rule on myself. No Primes. Unless absolutely necessary.

G1
Image
Silverstreak, Slag, Kickback

G2
Image
Laser Prime - one of the best transforming action figures of all TOIME! absolutely necessary.
Space Case, Electro

Beast Era
This was really hard for me. i love em all. So I broke it up into it's subsidiaries.
Beast Wars
Image
Tripredacus, Inferno, Wolfang

Beast Wars Transmetal
Image
Tiger Hawk, Megatron, Night Glider

Beast Wars Neo
Image
Longrack, Killerpunch, Stampy

Robots In Disguise
Image
Galvatron, Side Burn, Prowl

Armada
Image
Starscream, Overload, Snarl - Not much to choose from. Throw a bone to another beast.

Energon
Image
Divebomb, Sky Blast, Rodimus

Cybertron - Real tough one. There aren't a lot of duds here.
Image
Armorhide, Cryo Scourge, Menasor

Alternators
Image
Smokescreen, Broad Blast, Tracks
I just realized Broad Blast is an homage to Blaster. and I have him. 8-} #-o

Classics - really hard for me also
Image
Mirage, Jetfire, Sky Warp

Generations
Image
Wheeljack, Thunderwing, Metroplex
don't think it wasn't hard to not put Springer on here. I just wanted to be difurnt.

Movie - this was harder than I thought. there is a good handful I really like. But only one is a movie character.
Image
Breakdown, Deluxe Bludgeon, Galvatron - Hoist gets an honorable mention.

Animated
Image
Ultra Magnus, Oil Slick, Sentinel Prime

Prime
Image
Cyberverse Optimus Prime - one of MY favorite transforming action figures of all TOIME! absolutely necessary.
Ultra Magnus, Wheeljack

Powercore Combiners - why not?
Image
Huffer, Sledge, Icepick

Masterpiece

Silverstreak, Red Alert, Wheeljack

Thank you so much for that beautiful list Cobotron! Now I have a few new transformers to add to my want list.

I also had trouble with Beast Wars. I am impressed with that Tripedicus choice, from a design and functionality perspective, he is probably one of the best combiners ever. And Tigerhawk really surprised me (but not as much as Cybertron Menasor). But man, I wished i could have chosen more for Beast Wars so that I could add Cybershark. He is one of the best transformers of all time to me since both modes are very different from one another and yet alt mode integration is present in the form of the shark head. Also, that head can act as a projectile. There are missiles which have excellent weapon storage options and can also be used as clubs. The transformation si fast and even though he is a shell former, he still looks sleek and is super poseable. He also has an insane headsculpt. Man, I should just go an change my list (but I LOVE bone crusher too, he takes cues from the G1 predacons).

Some of my picks my not have the best design. It became more of an over all "Favorites" list for me. I think Menasor's robot mode is killer. Alt mode just gets by.
I realized I left out Beast Machines. When I went back to the seibertron galleries to dig, I realized they are really lacking on BM stuff. I will dig through my stash and shoot some pics when I have a minute.

Well best design is always subjective. Cybershark just missed out on my top three because while it followed the basics starting point of quick transformation and insane possibility, I liked the Terrasaur mold that little bit more.

I went digging through my Beast Machines. There are a ton of toys missing from the galleries. I'll have to see what I can do about it.
It feels like Beast Machine toys are kind of a dirty word or an embarrassing cousin around here.
I can see why, they're WEIRD, but I'm not afraid to say I really liked a lot of these toys. Design wise, these were certainly some of the most far out. That's why they are interesting.
Anyway here's three that fascinate me, and cant be pondered over in the gallerias.
Image
Mega class Tankor, Basic class Battle Unicorn, Basic class Quickstrike
Image

I took some more pics just so you can look at them a little harder. I won't say much. You can make your own judgements.

I will say this. I think Tankor is one of the most overlooked TFs out there. I know he isn't show accurate in the slightest, but as a transforming robot toy he ROXX! I've always said there is something G2 Laser Prime about him. Can't quiet put my finger on it.

This is the whole reason I got him, right here.

I also think the Blackaracnia from this line is the best we've ever seen. Maybe the best fembot ever.

Show accuracy be damned, I like that BM Mega Tankor better than the Generations one.
Also, that Unicorn... I WANT IT!

Speaking of beast "machines", Cybertron Snarl.

Transformation is not lazy at all and pretty amazing.

You are gonna LOVE Takara's take on the reason behind the Gen version:

This is the wave he is released in with Takara

This mirrors this particular image:

Tankor makes a fair proxy for the Bonaparte Tulcas transforming tank that was left out when Hasbro licensed the other two deluxe vehicles, who became Roadbuster and Whirl, from Takatoku Toys from their Special Armored Battalion Dorvack line. Now, almost 29 years later, Takara Tomy has spiritually reunited this trio in there Transformers Generations line. Like I said, it's just a clever nod to Transformers history on Takara's part. :)

I actually prefer the BM tank drone to Gen Tankor :D

In the current comics Tankor was a Cybertonian who fled the war coming back once it was over he returned home and made friends with the other Tankor (the renamed Octane) were they became know as fat Tankor and thin Tankor. All this means is that Hasbro asked IDW nicely to include him as advertising. As to why Hasbro made this? To celebrate their 30th

No sweat :)

@willam it's close to being done, it was really hard trying to choose three from Cybertron, that line really set a standard. Though I did have fun going through Energon again. However stuff in real life needs sorting out hence why I've had to leave it hanging but things should be less hectic once Xmas hits :)

Motto: "A man who wants nothing is invincible."
ive wanted to add to the new game, but i knew my addition would take a lot of work  . anyways, i like the rule of excluding primes, so here i go!

G1/G2: grimlock, skywarp, hero megatron, jolt

Image

grim is one of the most posable G1's in both modes and super fun. skywarp or seeker mold in general is amazing, and my favorite vehicle alt mode from G1. hero megatron is the first "good" megatron made in the franchise, posable and spot on likeness. jolt is a kickass hotrod, posable, and has a sword, nuff said.

BW/BM: silverbolt, TM2 dinobot, ultra jetstorm, mirage

Image

its not hard to say that the toys from BW were quite accurate to the show representations, but i felt silverbolt was spot on aside from the backpack not folding down slightly. he TF'd exactly like he did on the show (and i could do it almost as fast) and the missile melee weapons were awesome. TM2 dinobot was a fearsome creature. the beast mode was more raptor-like this time around, and he seemed to be covered head to toe in razor blades. ultra jetstorm had a sickening jet mode, and while not entirely accurate his bot mode(s) were pretty nice too. and my oddball, mirage. i think i like him for his simple yet interesting transformation, and having the standard ball joints to make him posable.

RID: ultra magnus, prowl

Image

this UM gets major points for being an original mold as opposed to a white prime repaint. he's a big imposing bugger too, and while some might dislike his proportions i think they work. and that truck mode looks like a force to be reckoned with. prowl feels like a beast wars toy with car parts on him instead of animal parts, which to me is a plus. in bot mode nothing is too cumbersome he gives off a nice silhouette. and the car mode is a lambo!

AEC: bulkhead, CD hotshot, scattershot, downshift, sideways, soundwave

Image

so who out there didnt repurpose bulkhead as springer? posable and fun in both modes, and that super mode thing was fun too. CD hotshot is a big bulky mother, and everythings better with combat knives. scattershot is NEVER not fun to play with, with those pop out weapons. to me, downshift was the first near perfect G1'esq car-former since, well, G1. how is it he wasnt repainted to be a proper wheeljack? hes simple, blocky, solid, and satisfying. damn good toy. sideways is one of the sharpest and posable sculpts of the trilogy. who else thinks the name "noisemaze" would be a killer band name? and finally soundwave, like the rest of the line he had sharp beautiful sculpting. and he has the most important aspect of his G1 counterpart: opening chest with a lil transformable dude. and laserbeak might be my favorite piece from the whole trilogy.

generations/classics: cyclonus, galvatron, ironhide, ramjet, megatron, crosscut

Image

cyclonus could have a more streamlined jet mode, but everything else about him is spot on. galvatron might be small and complex, but is totally underated. once i got used to transforming him, i had a lot of fun. ironhide also gets a lot of unnecessary hate. panel former sure, but he folds up so neatly, and that bot mode is awesomely posable. i love the seeker mold, but coneheads above others, and ramjet the most for some reason. maybe cause he's not hampered by back wings. megatron will probably never be a gun again outside of the MP line, so its amazing he even exists. take away the nerf colors and he looks pretty amazing. the red on crosscut is like, united premium red which is so pretty. grey is flat, but the new head sculpt rocks. and that transformation is intuitive and a joy.

MP: soundblaster, silverstreak

Image

why the odd versions? dunno. maybe because theyre the odd ones. sounswave looks kickass in black. and even better with the red window and a reprolabels gold insignia centered on it. everyone knows the datsun mold is a sight to behold, but for some reason silverstreak just pops. maybe his birhgtness is just more inviting

bayformers: premium blackout, deep space starscream, battle blade bumblebee

Image

blackout has a really awesome transformation, and maybe i have a soft spot for him being the first onscreen TF in the movie. that starscream is nice and shiney, and again has a intuitive tranformation (that automorphing chest is like nothing else). and BBBB, is like a mini MP or alternator. pretty complex, but very satisfying. plus, onboard weapons are cool.

thanks!
ok. so, the skids mold has issues. ones that i poured a lot of hate on with my first experience. all of which i could have overlooked with say, a shiny takara united'esq paint job. but we never got that, and im still drooling over the idea of it. and while the original head was fine, didnt like it. i 'spose skids just isnt my bag.

crosscut brought us halfway there with that shiny red. and that new head sculpt is seriously to die for. these things made me finally overlook his faults, and when i did i began to really enjoy the figure. as said, the transformation is neat and fun, and he's got weapons flipping out of everywhere. crosscut is a win for me!

Why IS Crosscut better than Skidds? And why am I so willing to over look that mold's faults?
thanks!

Just so we are clear. I am totally on your side with this Skids mold dilema. I am willing to over look his shoulders, legs, feet because he is just a good Classics-esque toy. Plus the Alt mode is a dope lil' Japaneses street racer. Which is my personal preferred ride in real life.
Agreed on Crooscut's head. I wonder if we like him too, because those colors subliminally conjure Silverstreak's color scheme.
I don't usually buy mold repeats. And I did with these guys.

I dont own Crosscut because I sont want to double down on a mold and because crosscut not being a headmaster still makes this toy feel like it's not the definitive version of the character/G1-toy yet. BUT, if I were to own one of these two, it would have been crosscut. Skids is probably my least liked generations figure I own (followed by FOC Shockwave...so much regret). The panels do not close well. I forgave Generations Springer regarding that because he had so much going on and it didnt look taht bad. But not Skids. You can clearly see that the door panels don't lock and it's a shame.

There was also a missasembly which caused me a lot of grief. I was told you could simply snap our the legs and swtich them at the hip so that he could have greater range (for kicking out front). But those damn hip joints were tight. I would twist back and forth to get the leg out and when it finally came out, the ball joint was still attached to it :-x
So I had to pull out the crazy glue and get that fixed. He's fine now, and all the legs are assembled properly and its like nothing ever happened. But I didnt need this grief when handling a toy for the first time. And those panels not locking in makes me feel I fail every time.

Crosscut seem to have none of that.

SURFACE.

I was sorting out my Italian shelves the other day, and picked up Human Alliance Jazz.
Has anyone mentioned the figure so far? It is a glorious piece of everything fitting just right in both modes (with some minor backpack in robot mode), with great gimmicks and stability.

Of course, you need to like the movie designs. :P

crosscuts a headmaster?
i thought the basis for crosscut was that he's a repurposed diaclone version of skids?
