What's in a name?

Hey Seibertronians,

I'm bored of my dissertation again, so here I am with another generic topic on stuff.
I've always been curious about this kind of thing, as I take some time to come up with a suitable alias for message boards.

My question is: Why and how did you choose your Seibertron.com username?
Does it have any particular significance? Did you ponder on it for ages? Do you always use the same one all over the internet?

I'll start this time!

Va'al is there for a couple of reasons:
- It reminds me of Ba'al, which is cool.
- Because Ba'al is at the root of Beelzebub, and my previous screen name was Bestesbulzibar (from teh R.A. Salvatore Demon Wars books), it's a kind of progression on the demonic scale (or regression?).
- It's actually a mixture of my surname (Valente) and first name (Alex).

I chose it when I started playing Star Wars: KOTOR (which I never finished), and it jsut stuck. I have to use various spellings of it, due to the apostrophe, so on different sites I can be Vaal or Vahal.

Now the ball's rolling, your turn..!

Stupid fan TF character I created, believing Zombie TFs hadn't been done before.
When I signed up all the other names, even generic names, I could come up with where already taken, so I used that.

And now that I think about it, I may have gotten the name for my stupid character from a different source, namely:

Seeing how I was a big fan, I might have taken the name for my character from that. :michaelbay:

Oh yea I also try to use it, or a variation of it, for all my internet presences. I actually really like the idea of having a definite internet name, I also like being called by it at TF conventions, especially since it's easier to say for English speaking folk than my real name.

Ah, one of those threads again :)

Mine is as simple as can be: just my first and last name put together, hence the two capital letters. A small side-effect of that was it was considered girly by most who meet me for the first time, and thus jumped to conclusions  The "GoldRabbit" part is from an online game I used to play back in my teens, but I don't use it all the time, sometimes I just use "JelZe" :)

To date, this has been my single nick for my entire internet career, but for my upcoming YouTube project I want to use something different. Maybe I should drop the "GoldRabbit" thing altogether...

Smoketreader is a reference to the Greek riots, inspired partially by the consistently fresh memory of walking through smoke at the time. :-$

The second 'trigger inspiration' was a piece of Graffiti I spotted at the time of one protest stating "The police are everywhere but the flames make us invisible". (Someone had crossed out "The flames" and "invisible" and replaced it with "our love" and "invincible" which was very dramatic and meaningful,see...) Somehow this kept eating at me till I used it to give myself the Smoketreader name. >:oP

Before the earliest riots, there had been a whole bunch of forest fires here. A neighboring country admitted just recently that these were deliberate arson attacks intended to hurt our tourist income. These fires were so widespread that the ruins at Olympia were threatened and firefighting teams had to be diverted from ppls homes to defend the Ancient Olympic site. Those days are also part of the name.

Of course, being Autobot themed, it is also a reference to burning rubber when driving around. 8)

Don't know where I picked up the actual name from. Most likely some Comic or TV show. I normally just use some name I think of at the time or my own name with no frills when blogging or net surfing.

EDIT: OptiMagnus reminded me- I forgot altogether: The tag on my name (set to G1 as I type this) is just a game I invented, like changing shoes or a hat. It's been Mektek, Armada, Classic, G2, RotF, DotM & PRIME so far. I change it with the mood of the season.

I was born with a nerve problem. So I had minor shakes. So when I was 10, the other kids in my school decided to call me wiggles. It bothered me for a few months but then I decided to own it and change the spelling from an s to a z. My friends still call me Wigglez even though I'm 23 now but oh well. The shakes don't really happen anymore but the name is still around.

by Rodimus Prime
The name Rodimus Prime needs no explanation. But why I chose it might. I used to be on another message board, a shithole called TFArchive. I had a different name, but someone else got into an argument with some elitist (think STFU) members there, and was ganged up on, even joined by a couple of mods. Seriously. He was in the right, so I decided to help him, and got banned for it. I went back, this time with the name Rodimus Prime, and declared all-out flame war, and just trolled the place as hard as I could until I got banned. I picked the time when no mods were around for maximum carnage. But, of course, it got me a permanent ban (whatever, like I said, the place was a turd pile and I was planning on leaving before all this anyway) so I ended up on Seibertron.com and kept the name. When I joined I think the board had about 100 members, so the name was still available. Had it ever since. As for significance toward the character, I was never a die hard fan or anything, but I do defend him every time the "Optimus vs. Rodimus" debate comes up. I actually like Hot Rod better, though he wasn't around much due to turning into Rodimus.

"Heavy B" was my nickname in highschool (I'm fat, and my last name begins with B)

"Dr" Was just somthing I slaped on one day. My name is interchangable like that. I have also used "Slightly Less Heavy B" when I lost some weight, "Heavy B In Traction" when I broke my arm, and "Heavy B On Demand" because it sounded cool.

I might add Dr to mine in about four years' time, once my PhD viva is passed, and I will be a doctor (in the academic sense) in real life. :D

My real name is Michael. The first board I was brave enough to Join at least 15 years back was a Star Trek one. Being a Star Trek geek I came up with the Klingon-ized version of my name which was M'Kall. Somewhere along the way I joined a game or something that didn't like apostrophes, so I dropped it and formed Mkall, though for whatever reason people still capitalize the K though it hasn't been a capital K in over 10 years.

Only place I don't have/use Mkall is DeviantArt... cursed Markus Kall and his photography...

OptiMagnus should be easy enough to figure out. It's just an amalgamation of "Optimus" and "Magnus." The Transformers films drew me in closer and closer to Transformers fandom, and as news of TF3 came out, I decided to join Seibertron because I remembered getting my news here for Revenge of the Fallen. I'm the least creative person I know, so I had no idea what my name would be. I just thought of a way to combine "Optimus Prime" and "Ultra Magnus" into one word since they were the first two characters to enter my head. Now, originally I was "OptiMagnus10" (and Burn still called me OM10 even after I removed the 10).

What does the 10 mean?

Honestly, I have absolutely no idea why I chose that number to tag on to my name. It has no significance to me. Usually I use the number or numbers of my favorite NASCAR drivers, but I don't even think #10 was even being used when I joined the site. That's why I got rid of it. Because it annoyed me that it had no significance and that it made my name more complex.

Because I used to be paranoid about people connecting one of my usernames to my other usernames on the interwebz, this is the only place I use any version of OptiMagnus. Every public username I have is different.

I was born with a fliper-claw for a left hand. It's half a thumb and 4 nubs instead of finger. I wanted a unique username that didn't have a bunch of numbers in it. I don't know where I got the idea, but I took the Earthworm Jim character Evil the Cat and changed Cat to Nub. I put the underscores in because most websites I tried to use it didn't allow spaces in usernames. I also go by Nethiar sometimes, which I made up for a World of Warcraft character.
