kunio okawara, hajime katoki, mamoru nagano, go nagai and shoji kawamori's (insert other japanese mecha designer names here) reaction(s) when they saw the live action movies? some gundam fans practically worship katoki's 'detailed' renditions (YMMV) to the various mobile mecha he does but are not impressed with the detail of the live action transformers so i was wondering what these guys reactions were.

I also wonder that.

i was originally going to add yoshiyuki tomino (creator of the gundam franchise) but his last reaction to another franchise got himself humbled (he created the show 'brain powerd (NOT A TYPO)' in response to evangelion to prove he's japanese mecha's top dog and failed, though i could be wrong because most of that came from fanzines) so he might be wary about loudly voicing his opinions about another franchise.

I got into anime watching Gunbuster, Evangelion, Gundam, Getter Robo, and GaoGaiGar and I can honestly say I think they would be impressed. To me at least the movies capture that kind of over the top mentality even more serious Japanese mecha series go for. Part of why critics here savage the films, if you ask me, is because that style of entertainment is (or was before the Transformers films) a relatively niche market stateside critics haven't seen before.

Question: Are we talking post-depression Tomino? If we are he'd probably like it because even at it's darkest the Transformers film series was pretty upbeat. He's a far cry from the guy who destroyed the universe in Ideon or killed off 90% of Zeta Gundam's cast.

i'm not sure if tomino's past his depression during brain powerd, because he stated that he wrote brain powerd before evangelion. depression tomino > simon furman on the kill 'em all scale, though simon did resurrect a lot of guys so he can kill them, something tomino hasn't done yet.

I have a $100 bet that's what Anno did with the cast of Evangelion for Rebuild. Fyi, if you think the drama among Transformers fans over the movies is bad, don't mention Rebuild on an Evangelion forum. Or if you do, wear lead lined underpants. The flamewars burn so hot they're radioactive.
