Psychics predict the thing to ruin Transformers forever will be the last thing that happens before the line is cancelled.

The thing is that there are so many different continuities, that one could simply just avoid one continuity, and enjoy another. I'm not too sure when it comes to toys as I'm not well-versed in that area.

Sledge wrote:As the older fans will remember, the Transformers franchise is regularly ruined FOREVER. Prowl being a motorbike is simply the latest thing that's doomed Hasbro to certain bankruptcy. Minicons, beast modes and Michael Bay have similarly raped our childhood in the past. But what I'm wondering is: what was the first thing to ruin Transformers? Was it Headmasters? Pretenders? Or something else? Opinions, please.
I still don't get the whole "Vehicles not beasts" argument. Alot of G1 characters were beasts. They were mechanical beasts but they were still beasts.

This includes one group who had been remade in one form or another into EVERY SINGLE TOY LINE TO DATE. The Dinobots! Of course they're not allways Dinosaurs but their names are offten used for other characters. RID Grimlock for example. Other incarnations of Snarl have been lions. ect.

Michael Bay is the only one I'll put on this list. No matter what series has been out of Transformers, no matter how much they've changed over the years, the Transformers have allways been easily recignizable icons. Even in Trasformers Animated if you can look passed the weird aimation styal.

Michael Bay's Transformers are NOT easily recognizable as Transformers. In fact I now find my self stoping to look at robots from other toy lines I never would give a second glance at before. Even some that might not be robots but rather people in armored suits.

All of these things look like Bay's Transformers. Even watching the movie it's difficult to tell one character apart from another durring the big fight sceens. Optimus and Boncrusher falling down the different levels of the highway would have looked so much better with more simple designs so you can actully see what's happening as they fall.

As it was I couldn't tell one apart from the other and the roads getting destroyed on the way down was alot more fun to watch than them fighting.

Being color blind doesn't help either. First time I watched the movie I saw Ratchet in a fight looking like he was shooting pulse blasts out of his feet and I thought it was Bumblebee. Close up, when they're introducing themselfs I can tell them apart but fast action sequences from a distance, "Who the F- is that?!"

Odly enough I can't seem to find more than 14 guys in that entire toy line. That would exsplain hy I forgot it ever exsisted in the first place.

Anyway...

G1 Dinobots

BW Dinobot and a Dinobot repaint into Grimlock. There are allso other BW figures repainted for the BW Dinobots including a couple Japanise figures you can't get in the US unless it's the Dinobot versions.

BM had a seperate line in simular packaging marked as "Dinobots"

RID Grimlock

A/E/C Energon had Grimlock and Swoop.

There are Dinobot repaints in the Univers line I'm sure.

And of course Alternators Grimlock.

Anyway that's not really the point. The point is the Dinobots are hugely popular G1 characters and they do have beast modes.

Beast Wars is a good show, the characters developed. That is what we seem to be missing all of a sudden. Hopefully Animated gives us that.

No Optimus, Megatron or Starscream we got Rodimus and the insane Megs known as Galvatron instead.

What topped it off was a few years later with the horrible Pretenders line
I agree. There were a lot of things that were ruining Transformers around this time... however things were still salvageable until '88, when the whole goddamn thing got ruined forever. Transformers actually started to get messed up when they released figures like Powerglide, Cosmos, Perceptor and Blaster! I love all of these guys, but they don't look good in an AUTObot convoy. They should have all been Decepticons, or at least have had a good reason to be Autobots, like Skyfire and the Aerialbots.

Because it is a topic of utmost importance! It was 7 years ago that Transformers actually went from ruined forever to ruined for infinity. People's childhood's were pretty much intact until... Bay. It's an anniversary of sorts.

Shouldn't your hate be directed towards the writers of the movies and producers? Bay is just one man and the movies are a gesalt of the work of everyone involved. Also forever and infinity are the same :P

Also it's time the childhood memories being raped (I hate typing that word) thing to rest, no one involved with the movies has that power, the memories are still intact ;)

I disagree.

True fan's childhoods had been violated before Michael Bay, but not violently. Bayformers took ruining Transformers forever to the next level with these movies because they have the power to retroactively rape people's childhoods. Things had been going downhill ever since G1 Powerglide and Cosmos hit the pegs, but Bayformers brought outright disrespect to the entire G1 aesthetic.

We're not turning ANOTHER thread into a Bay bashing thread.

Transformers is about change. Deal with it. Just like the status of this thread is changing from open to closed.
