Where to start collecting ? MP's maybe?

Hey guys. This is my first post here. Very excited to join. Im a TF fan since 1989 but am only just getting into collecting. All I have if DOTM Leader Bumblebee and my old beat G1 optimus and trailer. My kids however, have a ton.

Anyway, I got into tranformers through watching THE movie as a lad.

Wasjust wondering where a good place to start. I will be geting into painting and customizing mainly, but also want a good collection.

I was thinking of starting by preordering MP Wheel Jack, Magnus and Bumblebee. Is BBTS or TFdirect the best way to go about preordering or should i look elsewhere?

Thanks guys.

Welcome! : ) Start with your favorite character? Honestly, collecting is subjective and you should simply gather figures on your own preferences.

Well that was my plan...Unfortunately for me most of my favs are from the animated movie and the MPs are hard to source in AUS. :( I guess importing will be the only way to go .

Anyone reccomend other dealers besides BBTS or TFdirect for good prices and international shipping ?

MP's may be a bit pricey, and characters are few and far between. And licensing may get in the way of some releases (though that fear has been alleviated with Bumblebee and Lambor). As an aside, have you looked at the Classics, Universe, Reveal the Shield and Generations lines? Some figures like Jazz are really close to the original toy for a fraction of price, and are less complicated.

[url-http://www.hlj.com]HLJ[/url] - It's where I get all my Masterpieces from, the real trick is to get in when they have their early-bird pre-orders going. They also have their private warehouse which allows you to put things aside and have them shipped later with other stuff that may come in.

Plus postage from Japan to Australia is a whole **** load cheaper than from BBTS.

TRU AU does get them in, but you're looking at nearly $100AU for Prowl.

Sweet Ill take a look at HLJ. Do they offer a pay now / pay later pre-order option like a couple of other retailers?

They look quite reasonable. They appear to have an option to pay when the order is in stock. I just feel more comfortable doing it that way and then having orders shipped together.

I really like the look of MP-22...Might pull the trigger and import my first MP. Kind of exciting. Decision decisions.

Masterpiece figures are the best, but of course very expensive. There are also a lot of third party figures that scale well with them.

If you want to get into customising then the Movieverse and Transformers: Prime figures lend themselves very well to being modified and painted to look real.

I'm new to the collecting scene as well. It started about a year ago when I accidentally dug out some of my old figures from when I was a kid. They were all in poor condition and missing accessories, so I buried them away again in disgust of my childhood self's lack of appreciation for them. I then decided to get back into Transformers again and started picking up a few of the more modern figures as well as re-watching the old cartoons, reading some comics and playing the FoC/WfC video games. Basically, I went on a bit of a TF binge.

I pick up a few every month, unless I spend a lot on a Masterpiece figure or something like that, and I've probably got around 40 to 50 now from various lines. I like collecting groups at a time. For example, I'm currently working on a Wreckers group at the moment. Waiting for the Henkei Autobot Warriors pack so that I can pick up Kup and Perceptor for this group. I haven't delved into the 3rd party market yet but I'm hoping for a re-release of Sixshot (Reformatted Hexatron) in his original colours at some point in time. Love the look of Maketoys Quantron and MMC Feral Rex too, but it's just more than I can possibly afford right now.

Wow. Its kind of overwhelming to delve into the long lines of TF's that are currently on the market or have been released.

I think I will start with some MP's. Ultra Magnus, Wheeljack and BB and go from there.

Just be prepared to go through phases. There will be a toy or even a line you will want super bad and/or absolutely love when you buy but then it will lose its luster or you will wish you went after something else.

It takes a little while sometimes to get your collection focused in the direction you truly want to go with it.
