Who is the Greatest Leader in All of Transformers History?

Postby UltraPrimal » Fri May 25, 2007 7:35 am

Motto: "Vote for Beast Wars!"
Weapon: Sword
I'm talking every leader of every major faction in every medium of every series and every continuity ever. Everyone from ovious G1 Optimus Prime to forgotten BW Terrorsaur(Power Surge). If you were a Transformer, which leader would you follow. And while you're at it, you might as well say who you'ld never wish to follow: Who is the worst leader?

For me the best leader would be G1 Cartoon Megatron.
He rewards his loyal troops and punishes his traitors. He never left a man behind enemy lines, except Starscream that 1 time but he was being a [blank].
His plans never fail, his troops just screw them up. And he's very confident. He never questioned himself like Prime did.
He fights honorably, except when he took all his guys powers and beat up Prime that 1 time.
When ever theres a life threatening situation where the Autobots and Decepticons must work together to survive, he co-operates and he doesn't use it to his advantage or try to stab Prime in the back while the Autobots are high-five'ing each other.
Plus, he's never been beaten.

The Worst would be BW Cartoon Megatron.
He's almost the polar opposite of G1 Megatron.
He's traitorous.
He's greedy.
He only thinks of himself.
And he's weak and a coward.

Now most of those points could be applied to any number of Decepticon/Predacon leaders such as Starscream and Terrorsaur, but I chose Megatron b/c he had the most time to prove otherwise. Where as Starscream and Terrorsaur were leaders for only a brief moment(s).

While I can agree with all of your pro-G1 Megatron comments, I think the opposite of BW Megatron.
I think ol' purple might have been the best leader in the continuum. Yes, most of his plans were assinine and comical, like trying to convert Rhinox into a Predacon, but when you get down to it, his scheme in "The Agenda" trilogy was brilliant and if we cross over into the BM era his ultimate plan for cybertron was brilliant as well, from a certain point of view. BW Megatron was foiled time and again by his idiot filled crew. I think really, it comes down to something Ravage says in "The Agenda" about having Megatrons' name but not his army. If BW Megs got a hold of G1 Megatrons' troops the Predacons could be unstoppable.
G1 Megs' problem was that his army was full of psychopaths and losers. BW Megatron just had the losers, but with a handful of G1 Decepticons there would have been no stopping him. Screw size differences, I'm just talking about fire- and manpower.

G1 Megatron suffered from a number of character flaws that are inherent in 80s cartoon villians, and villians in general, and as powerful as he himself was he reaped great advantage from his soldiers. BW Megatron doesn't have that kind of advantage, but with it I think he would be the omega in the lineage of Transformers leaders.

Anyway, just my opinion, and maybe not very well reasoned out, but I hate Optimus Prime, so there.

I liked BW Megatron. Ok, maybe I wouldn't follow him, as he only looked out for #1, and even let his most loyal troops get thrown by the wayside and slagged, but he was a very sly character and not afraid to get his hands dirty.

Optimus Primal is probably the only Optimus I ever liked, because he's the only one who ever felt "real" to me. He wasn't perfect, and he actually seemed like he knew his troops. They weren't just soldiers under his command, they were his friends.

I never felt G1 cartoon Prime had much of a connection to his troops, but that was probably due to the writing style, and the massive number of troops he had. There were a few exceptions though, like "Secret of Omega Supreme".

I have never been a religious person or a church-goer of any sort. I've studied a variety of religions on an academic level because A) I needed the elective credits and B) as an outsider, it's interesting to see how religions have influenced cultures and helped to shape our modern world.

Now, I understand, on a purely intellectual level, that people get pretty worked up about this Jesus guy. And, hey, why not, right? He had some very groovy ideas about how to live, though it sure would be nice if most of the people who were so worked up about him actually behaved how he advised.

But that's another topic.

Anyway, the sheer fervor he inspires in some people is something I've never fully grasped.

Until, one day while driving somewhere with Lydia, I was struck as if from a blackhole-powered cannon.

"What if Jesus is their Optimus Prime?"

And it made sense.

Good Lord, G1 Cartoon Megatron is an APPALLING leader. I mean... jeez! His tactics involve running away at the earliest opportunity, building stationary laser beams to conquer his foes, and has a vocal problem where every other sentence is follows by a cackle.

... and why is everything he touches his ultimate weapon? What sort of retard honestly believes he can defeat an army with a little spark creature that he found only 30 seconds prior?

I'm gonna go with G1 comic Soundwave- he knew what he was doing. Knew when he was gonna die, and knew that asking for help wasn't shameful.

He had a connection with his troops, always knew what to do in the heat of battle. He led an army and was a father to Jan, that just paints amazing leader to me.

Worst, its a tie between G1 Megatron and Deathsauarus from Victory
Their plans always failed. Both had second in commands way more capable of running the Decepticons/Destrons. Starscream for Megatron and Leozack for Deathsaurus.

I have to chose Rattrap as leader. For those who don't know he took over when Primal was incappacitated during the episode "Chain of Command" and took charge several times during the series. Although he doesn't want the job, he did a good job leading the Maximals when he was needed to.

G1 Comic Shockwave, he didn't waste his time with convulted plots and weapons of the week.

Instead he focussed on securing oildrilling platforms, factories and building more troops.

Though honorable mention should go to G1 comic Soundwave, he did a pretty good job when both Megatron and Shockwave were absent.

G1 Megatron for the win. Definitely.

Look at what he has to work with. A half past dead planet, fairly undisciplined and not entirely sane troops, and little to no energon. Any ordinary person would be lucky to do ANYTHING if they had to work with that.

Look at what he has done. The faction he leads terrorizes the whole galaxy and its outlying suburbs. He's conquered all sorts of places and keeps a tight grip on the lot of them. On top of that, he STILL manages to give the Autobots a real run for their money!

In short, he's got it together and he's keeping it together, even despite the fact that Fate seems to have done its level best to screw him over. If being able to do that DOESN'T make him the single greatest leader the Transformers universe has ever known, I don't know what does!
Life can be pretty sweet when your alt-mode is a B-2 Stealth Bomber.

I'll say the Marvel Comics Shockwave. He really had it goin' on for himself until he was put out of comission. Now there's a leader. Cartoon Megatron had an awesome voice, but bad leadership.

Comic Shockwave

-Defeats the Autobots
-Defeats Megatron
-Takes command of The Decepticons
-Repairs the Decepticons
-Secures control of oi ldrilling platforms
-Enslaves the human workers there
-Is able to repel military troops
-Gets the Matrix and Prime's head
-builds the constructicons
-relays a message to Cybertron thanks to them and Soundwave oh and Huffer as well
-builds Jetfire
-persuades Megatron to find Prime, kill him only to get himself killed so he can re-take command

Shockwave has made so many more accomplishments than G1 Comic & Cartoon Megatron combined

Primal, hands down.

He's the most realistic leader in TF History.

And he kept the Bird/Dog on a leash 'till he went Emo.

That's leadership.

To me it's obvious, Prime.

He has shouldered the burden the longest for the Autobots, and has been a more astute tactician in the battlefield. I the US comics, at least. Megatron is also a great leader, but his underlings always seem to screw it up, so he rarely gets to shine.

I'll have to tie G1 Prime and Megs for title of greatest leader. They have held the Autobots and Decepticons together for millions of years. Both had great visions and long-term goals, schemes that were truly grand in scale. And to top it all off, they were the originals. :D

Worst leader? G1 Galvatron BY FAR, as he had destroyed nearly everything that Megatron had built (loyalty, confidence, drive and ambition) Only rule through fear and brute force carried through in the end.

Greatest? Emirate Xaaron. He might not have gotten as much attention as the other leaders (being confined to U.K. continuity has that effect), but the 'bot was consistently portrayed as clever, resourceful, and (almost always) in control of any situation. Adding to that the sheer boldness to use himself as bait for assassins, and c'mon. He fused with a demigod when Marvel U.S. started using him. No wonder he was the only Autobot that could be Optimus' superior.

Worst, in all likelihood, would be G1 'toon Megatron. But to be fair, most 80s cartoon villains suffered from the same symptoms: irrationality, incompetence, and crippling pride. It's a shame, really...at least in the comics, Megatron's failures were sometimes attributed to a descent into sheer madness.

Cheers to all of you!! G1 Optimus Prime inspires even the humans to fight battles they have no chance in hell of winning, but they only fight because its the right thing to do for the sake of all that is right. We definately need more like him in reality, steering this mud-ball towards a peacefull future, dammit! And besides that, i'd NEVER follow a Decepticon.
