Hi, guys.

Just looking at a couple of subgroups, like the Dinobots, Insecticons, Constructicons, etc. and thinking "Okay, so these guys form a group, but let's not forget the group has individuals." Then I asked myself a question; Who is my favorite of each subgroup in G1, and who is my favorite overall?

Well, I'm here to list that, and then find out yours. Just out of curiosity. And when I say G1, I'm talking about the ones in the U.S cartoons, not including those of the toylines or the Headmasters cartoon.

Warning; This has got to be one of the longest threads I've done. Grab a bag of popcorn!

Seekers
I've been fiddling back and forth on whether or not to consider the Seekers a subgroup, so I put it in anyway, considering I have my favorite out of them too. Let's review who's in the bunch.

*Starscream
*Thundercracker
*Skywarp
*Dirge
*Ramjet
*Thrust
(and technically:)
*Sunstorm
*Acid Storm

Honestly, my favorite out of all of these would be Thundercracker, just because he's different........that's it, really.

Dinobots
Me PrimeStriker say they Dinobots are superior Autobot subgroup. Me PrimeStriker think I list they Dinobots now:

*Grimlock
*Slag
*Sludge
*Swoop
*Snarl

Me PrimeStriker favorite Swoop out of all of them Dinobots. He Swoop, and he fly! He Swoop awesome!

Constructicons
One of the best Decepticon subgroups/combiners of all time! But for all you newbs out there, the Constructicons consist of:

*Scrapper
*Long Haul (Why is Scrapper always listed first. Why can't I be listed first? This is bull!)
*Bonecrusher
*Mixmaster
*Hook
*Scavenger
*And their Gestalt: DEVASTATOR!!!!!!!!!!!111

Mixmaster has got to be my favorite out of those 6. Come on, he's a freakin' CEMENT TRUCK! CEMENT!!!!!

Insecticons
The army builders of 1985! The Insecticons could mass-multiply! Incredible! They consist of:

*Bombshell
*Shrapnel
*Kickback
*Bombshell
*Shrapnel
*Kickback
*Bombshell
*Shrapnel
*Kickback
*Bombshell
*Shrapnel
*Kickback
*Did I mention Bombshell?

Oh yeah! My favorite out of those 60k+ is Kickback, Kickback, Kickback, as well as Kickback.

Aerialbots
Oh my god! Flying Autobots! That's never been thought of before! I mean come on, it's pretty obvious that Skyfire can fly, and pretty much everybot in the series defies gravity by being able to take to the skies in robot mode, but come on, they can FLY, and they're AUTOBOTS!

They are:
*Silverbolt
*Slingshot (Damn humans!)
*Fireflight
*Skydive
*Air Raid
*And their Gestalt: Superion

My favorite is Air Raid, probably because I can't pick one out of all.......

Stunticons
Oh my god! Decepticon cars! What the hell?! All the Decepticons are jets & various human devices! There aren't any Decepticons on the ground! Well, except for Blitzwing, and those construction vehicles....what were their names? Uhm.....we should probably either rethink this toy selling gimmick or bring the land vehicles into battle more often.

Favorite? Blades, without a doubt. He can fly!

Combaticons
Starscream's holy grail. Anyway...

*And their Gestalt...Bruticus (Maximus)!

I like Vortex because he's a helicopter and hes awesome and he just is.

Predacons
Holy god! It's the Predacons! Maximals, att-, wait, I think I'm in the wrong continuity.

*Tantrum (I)
*Divebomb (O)
*Headstrong (U)
*Their Gestalt, Predaking
*And sometimes Gnaw! (Y)

Anyway....uhm...oh yeah, I'm going to go with Divebomb. He can fly!

Technobots
Get Techno! Get Retro! It's suprising that Grimlock made these sons of b- . They consist of:

*Cybertron Defense Scattoershot
*Strafe
*Nosecone
*Afterburner
*Lightspeed
*Grimlock
*And their Gestalt...Computron!

I really don't have a favorite out of these guys, considering I have no connection with them at all, but I'll choose Scattoershot because he's also in Cybertron and hes cool in Cybertron and he was my last my Cybertron figure and I like talking in incomplete sentances and st00f.

Throttlebots
Hey! It's Bumblebee Goldbug and the Throttlebots! They'll surely save the da-(Devastator steps on all 6 of them)

My favorite is either Freeway or Searchlight. I don't know, I can't choose.

Terrorcons
It's Megatron's Decepticon uprising! Quick, Autobots! We must get to the Decepticon space bridge before Megatron can bring the warriors of Cybertron through! Wait, this isn't the Aligned continuity.

Oh yeah, now I remember!

I had many pleasures making fun of their names. Heh, okay, I like Hungry, I mean, Hun-Gurreee, I mean...Oh you get it!

Wow, I think I just went through all the subgroups in the 1980s U.S Transformers cartoon. Or did I miss a few? Oh, god, I don't care, any other subgroups I don't know about and therefore can't have a favorite out of.

Well, my favorite subgroup out of all of them is the Constructicons, and therefore my favorite individual out of all the subgroup 'bots and 'cons is Mixmaster. Mixin' sh-

Seekers: Hmm....I guess Thrust. He didn't do much, but I do like his VTOL engines.

Dinobots: When I was a kid, Snarl cause I loved Stegasaurs(still do). As I've aged though, I have grown to appreciate Sludge. I love his voice and his innocence!

Insecticons: Shrapnel. He has an interesting voice tick tick.

Constructicons: Mixmaster, don't know why. He was my first G2 Constructicon, so that helps. Long Haul's good too, with his complantive nature.

Aerialbots: Air Raid, cause I like how he looks in at. mode. Sadly, all the Aerialbots are very samey.

Stunticons: I only have Motormaster's figure and since they weren't focused on individually that often, I don't really have a favorite. But, Dead End's kinda fun.

Protectobots: First Aid all the way. I love his pacifistic nature.

Combaticons: Swindle. His figure is very simple, poorly proportioned, and his animation model isn't toy accurate. However, he has a very fun character .

Predacons: Hmmm, I haven't seen them do much individually. Rampage then, just because I have 3 Preds and he's my favorite figure.

Terrorcons: I like Hun-Grr's figure, so him. They are not well developed characters.

Technobots: Strafe. I like the design.

Throttlebots: Goldbug!!!! Come on, he's an upgraded Bumblebee.

Well that certainly isn't fair since the cartoon barely scratched the surface on many of these characters. There are G1 comics too.

Anyway, abiding by just the cartoon:

Seekers - Uh... Starscream, I guess? I mean, he's really the only one who got a personality in the cartoon

Dinobots - I guess Grimlock, only one who got the most characterization

Constructicons - Erm... Long Haul had the most distinct personality, but I don't like him best. So, I guess N/A?

Insecticons - Bombshell

Aerialbots - Silverbolt, hands down. The only one who wasn't a jerk at first.

Stunticons - I guess Motormaster, since I liked his "anti-Optimus Prime" schtick before the whole "Nemesis Prime" thing came about.

Protectobots - First Aid got his own episode, so... him, I guess.

Combaticons - Bruticus, cuz I like the team as a whole.

Predacons - Predaking, the idea of a Predacon combiner intrigues this Beast Era fan.

Technobots - Can't... decide. N/A, since I don't know any of them that well.

Terrorcons - N/A, same reason as above.

Throttlebots - Goldbug, cuz he's Bumblebee and I know him, unlike the other nobodies

Seekers:Starscream

Dinobots:Not really a fan of the group, but as a kid I always wanted Slag. So, Slag.

Insecticons:Shrapnel

Protectobots:I'm going to say Groove because he was hippie, and I always get tired of Blades being such a 'bad ass'.

Constucticons:Hook

Aerialbots:Silverbolt

Stunticons:Dead End

Combaticons:Brawl

Predacons:Divebomb

Terrorcons:Sinnertwin

Seacons:Nautilator or Seawing

Technobots:Afterburner

Starscream - That’s an easy one


Dinobots

Snarl – Stegosaurus was always my fave dinosaur when I was a child


Constructicons

Mixmaster – Just because he looks cooler than the rest IMO. I always considered the Constructicons one of the best combining groups.


Insecticons


Bombshell – never been a big fan of the Insecticons tbh. If I had to chose I would say Bombshell because he was the only one I had as a toy


Aerialbots

Silverbolt – If I have to chose one it’d be Silverbolt. The Arielbots were always the worst combiners IMO


Stunticons

Motormaster – He turns into a truck. Nuff said


Protectobots


Hot Spot – I always liked his mouth grill. Not the best reason to be a favourite but it raised him above the other rather bland Protectobots


Combaticons

Blast Off – he turns into a Space Shuttle. Need I say more?


Predacons

Headstrong – he turns into a rhino and rhinos are hard!!!


Technobots

Nosecone – If I must choose one I choose him. He turns into a big drill. That’s kinda cool

Throttlebots

Wide Load – because me and my friend used to say he was called that because he had a fat arse.


Terrorcons

Blot – because he is an oozing stinker!


What about the Seacons and the Trainbots? 2 vastly underrated teams IMO

The OP was going off the cartoon, which those two groups weren't in (another bit of unfairness, since they were in other G1 fiction).

Eh, the Trainbots were only in Takara's Headmasters anime' and Masterforce Manga, is it really any loss they're not on this tally? I've only seen Headmasters in terrible quality and Star TV dub(though I will soon have the Shout DVD), but I can't remember them doing anything extraordinary non-combined.

I just think they're better than a lot of the american G1 teams. When you think about it none of the combiners did anything really awesome, except maybe the Constructicons

My favs:

Seekers:
Tie between Starscream (for his personality...really the only seeker who had one that was fleshed out) and Skywarp (purple is my fav color). And lets face it...he had the most badass power of any of them, but he was never "done" right in the series IMHO...he totally should have been portrayed as the Nightcrawler of the 'cons.

Constructicons:

Scavenger.
Again, he had the most fleshed-out personality, the most screen time (and dialogue) of them all...AND he scored the FIRST KILL of the movie.

Combaticons:

Swindle.
He had a cool personality, and one of the few individual Gestalt bots who had several of his own storylines.

Dinobots:
Slag.
Tricerotops is cool. Horns for ramming that also shoot fire + armor plated head shield = win.

Predacons:
Headstrong.
Rhino is cool. Pretty much anything with that much animalistic power (plus: horn!) dominates IMHO.

Don't really have any favs from any of the other groups, sorry.

First off, Brawn was killed by Megatron, handled by Starscream. Scrapper didn't kill anyone. Scavenger killed Prowl, if that's who you're thinking of. Besides, he's not the only one with personality in the cartoon.

1. Long Haul - Complain, Complain, Complain.
2. Scavenger - Nobody gives a crap about him. And yes, I'm talking about his fellow Constructicons.
3. Mixmaster - Mad Scientist, that seems to like saying things 3 times in a row.

A-and that's about it...Bonecrusher and Hook were rather generic. Probably because they actually had mouths and nobody else did.

Slag is a Triceratoops.



Snarl is indeed a Stegasaurus, but has no horns to speak of, only a spiked tail. And he did not shoot fire, but snot lasers and a powerful tail laser(after absorbing solar energy from his body plates).

Also, yes for reasons that have to do with "Slag" being a negative connotation in other countries, the Trike is referred to as "Snarl" in robot heroes and Animated. My interpretation that I wrote on that one....http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&section=&q=mosaic+first+words#/d1xcpqo

I...do not remember that song from my terrible dub/quality tapes of Masterforce! Does it pop up anywhere in the series proper?

If it does, makes me glad I finally got around to picking up both it and Headasters this week! Gotta watch Headmasters first though.

Sadly, not in lyrical sung form, no. But, if it does show up in an instrumental form, I don't remember hearing it.

IIRC, I think the Omni Productions English dub removed all the lyrical insert songs and replaced them with silence.

LOL, I'd be amazed if there was ever a diehard collector who loved Masterforce so much to get that many Seacons (with only ONE Turtler for "total accuracy").
