It's a popular opinion that's for sure. I for one enjoyed it quite a bit. It felt like a huge throwback to the G1 toon.

G1 is the best because of Corey Burton as Shockwave:

Th e G1 cartoon is the best because it gave us special effects like this:

Image

Swindle, Brawl, and Bruticus all running into giant Blast Off. That's some trick.

Optimus Prime and Megatron made G1 great, and that's the bottom line.

What's sheety with AHM was that IDW shouldn't have monkeyed around with what wasn't broken. They ordered/let Furman recreate the entire G1 Sunbow/Marvel origin from the ground up then does a 360 with AHM which was initially presnted/sold as an alternate universe take then suddenly becomes the main timeline :BOOM:

Then there's the 3 issues where someone did a space filler for Guido Guidi. The Insecticon origin artist shift was slick but it seems IDW didn't iron out the logistics of the project until the last minute..........kind of like Roger Corman's B movie where they followed the script by ear.

Guido Guidi's art was awesome in the earlier issue too. But why from Raptors to F-15s for the Seekers? Also, IDW changing BBs robot structure but then still transforming back to a VW bug but keeping WJs Lancia mode. WTF? Okay.........rant over.

As for duragrip calling the series an "ABORTION" maybe an ABERRATION would be most apt term for it as equating a comic which such an emotional and physical gut wrenching event in a human's life is trivializing it.

I did stop reading IDW after that. Only the 12 issues of AHM, the rest semed like trash pieces left in the editors floor after a movie was heavily spliced up. What a wasted potential!

I thought it was sorta okay. A little hasty for a conclusion to Furman's run of the series, but otherwise a harmless story that wrapped up the Headmaster Sunstreaker and Machination arc.

At the end up Ultimate Doom Megatron survives getting blown up. That's why I think he would have survived getting thrown out of Astrotrain in the movie.

As you say, a lot of the hate stems from the fact that it made a complete mess of continuity. For people who were reading Furman's comics prior to AHM, it was like a slap in the face.

That said, I've re-read it recently, and it's not a bad story. It was nice to finally see a story where the Decepticons were allowed to truly cut loose on Earth, even if I would like to have seen more evidence of their destruction. The story itself is pretty cliché-driven, and some of the fill-in art is less than stellar, but again, it's not a bad story at all.

It's also that a LOT of the characters were so broody and angsty compared to how they usually behave, and that the wanton destruction and violence was so gratuitous and over-the-top, that it feels like the story took the G1 cartoon that it was trying so much to evoke and then drained all the bright, cheery fun out of said cartoon to appeal to "Gritty and Mature Teenagers".

In a way, it's a lot like the first Dreamwave G1 mini-series, in that regard.

If that's true I might have to pick this up and read it. I'm a big fan of DW's G1 series, it's superior to IDW, IMO.

Having in the last couple of months completely caught up and read ALL of IDWs G1 books, I really don't feel that it is that far out of place. To me, the continuity errors seem exceptionally small and minor, the biggest being just art styles, character design and what not. To me, the whole thing feels to gel really well. Except for Megateon: Origins. That one didn't feel as if it truly went along.

differences in art styles and character designs do not equate to continuity errors.

In a visual heavy media such as comics, they kinda do. My point being: I don't feel as if there are any glaring storyline discrepancies.

I would argue that "in a visual heavy media such as comics", that is heavily depended on the interpretive powers of both the artist and audience,"differences in art styles/character designs dont really reach the definition of a continuity error.

unless its something like mistakes from one panel to the next, like forgetting a character was there or so on.

What iteration and what character had the line, "Decepticons, transform and rise up. I heard the audio and it sounded kind of cool.
