Why isn't Kre-O Transformers Megatron the G1 Megatron?

Hasbro released a Kre-O Megatron (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Megatron_(Kre-O)):

My question is, why is Megatron a truck? Why didn't they make Megatron a pistol? A lego pistol wouldn't be hit with all the restrictions the G1 Megatron faced...and would be safe for kids to play with since it would obviously not look like a gun.

First of all, welcome to Seibertron and congratulation for your first post.

If you asked this on 4chan's /toy/, you would have been dragged donwn the street to be stoned to death for asking such a question. However, we are on Seibertron and we are civilized.

Thus, allow me to answer in a most eloquent manner to explain the fact that Hasbro will never release a "G1 style" Megatron on American soil ever again:
DUH, SHITSTORM CAUSED BY TOY GUNS AND LAWS AND ****!

May I also point out that making an official gun out of bricks will required the stupid but legally obligatory orange cap. The fact that we can ommit to put on the orange cap easely is a hornet nest Hasbro's lawers refuse to touch.

Still, you know what is the beauty of building bricks? YOU CAN BUILD ANYTHING! So, why not buy yourself the Kreo Megatron set plus some other Lego/Megablock sets and build your own G1 Megatron? If you have some Lego skills and the money to buy the appropriate bricks and sets, just go nut!

And the new set is a tank anyway, and quite a spiffy one at that! All shiny and silver bits. :P And Kre-O has it's own continuity, it's mostly a spoof universe...though I feel like it'd be hilarious if characters from one of the other continuities bumbled into the Kreoverse.

Shattered Glass Kreos!? :-?

Kre-O ≠ G1. They tend to homage a little bit of everything.
I believe the intent is to make the set interactive with the Kreons. An in-scale vehicle lends itself better to that purpose than a gigantic gun.

Plus, the gun-mode most likely would be hit by regulations/restrictions. Armada Laserbeak (the camcorder one) had to be colored bright orange as opposed to a more G1-esque black and red because of it's abstract "gun mode." No way a building block gun would fly.

This is the company that put a silly orange cap on an inch tall legends figure. Why? Apparently gun crimes involving 2 inch transforming toys is running rampant on our streets. Go figure

Agreed. A pistol alt mode would have been awesome!

Awesome, but impossible.

To illustrate, even a completely made-up model of gun has to have these colors:

Orange cap and all. And as mentioned before, Kre-O is not G1, is its own entity.

Better give TakaraTomy the sad puppy-dog eyes treatment, they're not restricted to US gun laws.

I just don't know how they'd put an orange cap on bricks unless the barrel was one solid piece.

And actually, that Megatron is based off of a Nerf gun. And that still needs an orange cap.

As I said, aside from that reason, they made him a truck because of this:

It's the same reason Bumblebee is usually a Camaro or a Urbana car resembling it instead of a Volk. Or the fact that Optimus isn't a flat-nose. Or the fact that Sentinel Prime is...here. The movies have influenced Transformers to a great extent. I don't expect to see a full set of G1-reminiscent models (outside of the Classics line and it's successors) anytime soon.

You know, it'sjust an idea:

What stop criminals for coloring the tip of their guns orange so we think they are toys until it's too late?

:-$ ! Don't give them the idea!

I don't think it's just a matter of an orange colored tip. It's an orange cap. Over the barrel, with a very small hole through it (or none at all).

The fear of being ridiculed  no really, who would be taken seriously at a robbery with an obvious toy gun?

What I meant is:

"Hoh, not to worry, it's just a toy".
Then, everybody dies.

As I don't want to provoke a debate that will derail the thread I will say only this:

Criminals rely mostly on fear. It's hard to instill fear with a weapon that looks like a toy.

Overquoting to say that I should have said "an insane nutcase" instead of "criminal". Still, an insane nutcase usually dont take the time to be subtle.
