I am hearing impaired, so I need subtitles to read and understand the story. I am also fortunate to enjoy Transformers: The Movie (1986) because it was subtitled due to the fact it was in Japanese!
Do ALL DVDs come with closed captions, BTW? If so, I don't have to worry when I decided to buy some so I can enjoy the good old cartoons!
I don't know where you are, but in the US, no not all DVDs are captioned, nor, apparently, are they required to be. The recent Voltron DVDs aren't and a recent season set of another show I watch, a show which was captioned for the broadcasts, is not captioned.
I've also got some hearing problems, so this is an issue for me. Fortunately, the recently release of TFTM was captioned, so there is a chance that the new release of the series will be as well. However, I suspect we won't know for certain until the new release.
