I'm a big fan of the old Wingcommander 3: Heart of the tiger, Wingcommander 4: The price of freedom and Wingcommander Prophecy. I just recently finished #3&4 again (don't have prophecy atm :( ) and dang those games still rock.
Anyone else played them? (You guys better... these are classics man! Don't bring the wrath of the spoon upon you)

Jaysus that brings me back! Been years since I played any of them. The thing that sticks out the most in my mind is the 'brilliant' fmv which has never been bettered, ahem :P Which one had Mark Hamill in it or have I gone mad and am thinking of a completely different series?

The fmv rocks and yes, Mark Hamill plays in all parts (although less in prophecy) as Blair.
A lot of games these days lack in the cutscene department imho.

I agree with you on the lack of good cutscenes these days (not saying I want games to go all 'interactive movie' though). There was just something about the Wing Commander games cut scenes that bugged me, might just be that I didn't appreciate cheesiness back then as much as I do now. Might go root them out and check them out again

You should do that. I personally think the acting is good though. But that could be just me.

I was more of a TIE Fighter and MechWarrior 2 man, myself. I have some of the WC games, but I haven't really played them much. I hear they're amazing.

In my opinion, they certainly are.

Same here, I liked 3 a bit more then 4.
So do you mean the kilrathi stealth fighter? Since confed only gets a cloaking device at the very ending and only the Excalibur (my favorite all time space fighter!) can use it.

When the Excalibur is not available I always used the Arrow. Light, speedy with no trouble staying on enemy fighters tail. I hate the Hellcat, it's just a worse Arrow in my opinion. Love the Thunderbolt's firepower but it's too slow for my taste. The Longbow is a bomber... 'nuff said.

I don't like it how almost everything will go boom with 1 missile in wingcommander 4. Even heavy shielded craft like Longbows, Thunderbolts and Excaliburs go down in 1 hit.
The Dragon is pretty dang awesome though, but it's so powerful it makes the end of the game rather easy.
All borderworld figher crafts are all pretty average. The banshee is slower version of the Arrow with less firepower (and dangit they won't let you pilot an Arrow in 4, only a bloody hellcat) the vindicator is decent and the Avenger is again... a Bomber, only with far less missiles then the Longbow. Then there is the Bearcat which has a short span of usabilty since you can rather quickly replace it with a Dragon. It's 4 Tachyon guns also tends to miss targets in the center of your crosshair at close range.

I don't recall that much of Prophecy craft though, really need to replay that one.

prophecy's fun. although I don't like the devestators, they're too slow and it's damned hard to hit anyone with the slow guns it has.
