Or take an approach similar to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, taking place waay back in the past, only that it's not on Earth 10 million B.C. but on Cybertron (or other planets as well). Revolve the show around HOW things went awry with the factions. Sort of a prequel, which could also detail some lesser known or unknown characters. Kup's got some cool war stories to tell, yeah? Why not let us see what happened exactly? Just an example, but you get the idea...
The only downside is you won't have any human characters in there, but it worked for Beast Wars, so, why not?
