Shiny! I ordered the very first version, was contemplating switching to the chrome set, but ultimately didn't make the change. For those of you that got yours, are they as shiny as mine here? Or did you get the brushed aluminum look? I'm not complaining, but I am curious which version I ended up with.
Also of note, there was no additional paint on Hoist's wings; they are one solid color. I can't tell if I like this more or less than the original painted protos. I might take a silver sharpie to them for some more detail. They are fine this way, but I kinda liked the original color shots. What do y'all think?

I have the FP G3 trailer that came with a bunch of chrome weapons, so these guys fit in nicely with my collection...Agamemnon wrote:Indeed, I liked the stickers. They "popped" a little more than the existing paint. One question for others who got this:

But like the pictures hat Aggie shows it matches spot on. Besides the wings having no silver paint and the chrome weapons there is no other differences (that I can see, correct me if I'm wrong). I also prefer the wings to be all orange, where was the silver paint on the wings inspired from anyway (was it on the G1 toy)?
Also on Chrome, When has it become fashionable to hate on Chrome? I find it really strange that everyone is after the silver painted ones on this set and the chrome set being less desirable? (Also people hating on the Chrome on Generations Jetfire) What's going on? People used to love chrome which (I thought one of the reasons made the Henkei figures more desirable). What's going on? Chrome is suddenly tacky?

For me at least, it is not a matter of chrome looking better or worse, it is being consistent with the figure in hand.
The US releases don't have chrome on the projectors or other weapons, so it looks a little out of place on them.
If I had the Japanese releases I'd want the chrome look and I DO prefer it. I just don't like these molds enough to pay import prices.
As far as the paint on Hoist's wings, I personally think it looks better. It breaks up the wall of orange a little. It is not G1 or anything, but as these are classics, not MPs, a little creative license comes into play.

megatronus wrote:As a rule, I definitely prefer metallics over chrome; I believe they help make figures look more cohesive. Random chrome, and in the case of Henkei, random colored-chrome, draws attention to the fact that the rest of the figure isn't chromed.
There are obviously exceptions - MP-10's chromed parts are well-placed, and make sense given the alt mode. Most chromed Henkei weapons are also OK, IMHO. But Henkei Cyclonus' wings, for example, seem out of place to me.

I haven't converted them to their respective truck modes yet but I have modified how the bot modes look by fidgeting with how the chests are to give them a more G1 look (the Autobot symbols are visible and the hood is pointing straight down rather than the grill facing forward). The chrome on the gun pieces fits in well even though the silver bits on the bots are just silver metallic paint and not chrome. It makes the weapons stand out a bit more, which in my opinion is a good thing.

Sorry for the horrible quality. The only camera I have at the moment is my ancient cell phone.

I think the arm lowering is a function of bringing the hood that far down. Perhaps the arms can come up a bit more, but then they won't lock into the mirrors.

Glad you were able to find it. Other then the foolishness of them having made it so that Hoist's towing arm is off center, it isn't a bad set. Certainly helps their robot modes immensely.
I just wish they hadn't so screwed up the attachment of the towing arm... Grr... So close to perfect, otherwise!
