Obviously, this goes to those fans who like at least 1 version of the Decepticon scientist.
Which incarnation of Shockwave do you like best, whether it be a character from a comic or cartoon, or a toy?

Right now I have to go with Prime Voyager Shockwave. That figure really captures the essence of the character to me.

I would prefer Shockwave is as comic. In the Marvel comic, Shockwave was a cold, logical schemer.

Cartoon: Prime
Comic: Marvel G1. The early IDW Shockwave wasn't too bad either.

Exactly.

But since I don't HAVE your custom Shockers, I guess I'll go with the Prime voyager.

My favorite cartoon rendition...Probably, quite honestly, Prime.

I have now decided that the Marvel Shockwave is the best.

Loved the G1 toy, aside from that little hose issue.

Animated. He had the competancy and power of G1 comics shockwave, with the loyalty and voice of G1 toon shockwave. A loyalty that set him apart from all other Decepticons. And being a massive Shockwave fanboy, his reveal at the end of Autoboot Camp made a painfully obvious plot twist go from 'meh, I knew it' to OH MY GOD ZOMMGOUEHSFIHUSEOIMFEUIJK!!!!!!!!!!!"

That was my actual reaction upon seeing that episode, especially considering I didn't even know he was going to be in the show, nor had a toy coming out.

Toywise, I only have Alternators, FOC, Animated and wst, but of those, I'd say Alternators. Works great as a voyager sized classics Shockers.

Prime Shockwave, followed by a tie between G1 and Animated Shockwaves

His deep voice, demeanor and mighty build made Shockwave perhaps the best and most intimidating of Prime season 3 villains. And he stayed true to the original.

As far as toys go, I really like Animated Shockwave (I do not own the G1 version). And in terms of charaacterization, I really liked Prime Shockwave. He took care of business and didnt feel like a subordinate of Megatron even though he was fully loyal to the Decepticon cause.

Despite the annoyingly rushed ending in Dark Cybertron, I still think the wonderful background that Roberts and Barber gave him in MTMTE and RID is a shining example of what writers can do with that character. At times, it was seriously moving, and, satisfying my inner punner, shocking. ;)

Image

Animated is another good example, using the Decepticon duplicity without the delusions of infinite power that other incarnations of the character have suffered (even the IDW version cut through that, making it his eventual downfall).

This is a hard one, because essentially all of them are the exact same with a bit of difference here and there.

I can't really decide between idw, Animated, and Prime.

IDW is so cool, especially with the idea, that he's only loyal to his own goals and pretty much just works with the Decepticons during his free time. Plus you know, his artificial rage that lets him pull through. His character arch was incredible.

Animate was essentially G1 cartoon Shockwave, just more powerful and actually effective.

Prime, damn Prime Shockwave just has this presence, he'll just do mundane things and send chills down your spine and seem like such a badass, complete with even more machine like voice than the original. And he has my favorite part of idw Shockwave: artificial rage.

But I guess it has to go to idw after all, just because you know that fantastic quote of his when he's reactivated by Skywatch, who tell him that they planted a bomb in his head that would go of in 24 hours unless he did as they told him, his answer was just pure greatness:
"Twenty-four hours. Agent Red, do you have any conception of how much damage I could do to this insubstantial world in that time?"

That right there cemented him as one of my faves of the series. At that point he was like Mr Freeze in Batman TAS, only showed up twice, but already one of the most memorable and quotable characters.

G1 comic Shockwave. Such a cold, calculating, ambitious villain. Much better than that lickspittle in the cartoon (though he had a totally rad voice).

Would Micron Legends Shockwave be placed appropriately among the other Shockwaves? I mean, he is associated in name only, and perhaps color scheme. His body and personality are nothing like the others.

The marvel G1 Shockwave was my favorite. So vindictive against Megatron. He was one of the main Transformers of Cybertron. It was so much better than him being Megatron's lap-dog. And following up is of course Animated Shockwave. An interesting role to play to spy on the Autobots. :D

If only the movie had actually shown us what kind of person he was like aside from "RAAGH! SMASH! BOOM! DESTROY!"

We have to consult the Movieverse comics for that instead.
