Hard to choose but i'm gonna try to cover all the types of game i play;

The Entire Command & Conquer series - I still own hte origonal C&C somewhere  and IMHO they have been flying the flag for "This is how you do RTS folks" for a lot of years

Tenchu Series - i was torn between having this or Metal Gear as the best stelth game series on here but those death from above moves where you can impale someone - Genius

Neverwinter Nights - and possibly the sequal when i upgrade my pc to play it  this game showed what you can really do with an RPG and its almost infantly replayable

The Dark Forces / Jedi Knight series - As someone said earlier the early games in this series just showed people what you could do with a FPS and the later ones with force powers added such a great twist it just kept you coming back for more.

Finally i have to include a puzzle game - TETRIS - you may mock but this is one of the most simple games i have ever played but probably the most adictive and fun ones too it just shows what can be gone without fancy graphics and massive processing power!

Honerable mentions must go to some i would have put in a longer list however - The Total War series, KOTOR and KOTORII, The Legacy of Kain series, the Hitman series, Grand Theft Auto series, Quake series, Halflife series, Unreal Tournament, Lemmings, and Worms

Ok, for a set of series, I'll go with (in no particular order):

Soul Calibur - I loved this game on the Dreamcast. It got the most spins on my Dreamcast. Soul Calibur 2 was cool as well. I never played 3. I just wouldn't buy a PS/2 for a single game I really wanted to play.

Civilization - I played these games for hours and hours. Countless hours. Especially Civ 2. By Civ 3 and 4 I had a job and didn't really ahve the same time to play forever. Civ 2, though... I was in University and I just kept playing all night, knowing damn well I should have went to bed to get up the next day.

Freedom Force - There's two games to this. Both were really fun for me and I liked the overacting stories that go with them. This lead the way for games like Xmen Legends I & II and Marvel Ultimate Alliance.

Halo - I know a lot of people talk about how it's all been done before and whatever, but this is one of the only fps I was able to get into. Also, for whatever faults, Halo 2 was the game that got my friends to play online with me (even though they live far away). Up until that it was too complex for them to set up a game or they didn't have an up to date computer, etc. I can't say anything negative about a game we played practically every weekend since it was released until Gears of War (and still go back to play sometimes).

The Secret of Monkey Island - I've played all four games of this. An amazing series, because it's actually really, really funny. They should make a new one.

I noticed most people are picking Nintendo franchises. They're older and have more history and I used to play them all, but somewhere along the line they kind of lost something for me (or maybe I changed- not sure), but they just don't hold that magic for me anymore. I remember playing on the N64 those games and they just didn't do it for me anymore.

For me, most if not all of the Nintendo franchises died with the Super NES. From the N64 onward, they tried way to hard to make them too cartoony/happy/lame, and it just didn't work for me at all.

Weapon: Gattling Gun
By Series:
1) Mario: He's just the best. Nearly every game is revolutionary and amazing.

2) Sonic (Mainly 2D): The 2D Sonic games are some of the best out there, but let's try to forget some of the 3D games.

3) Everything Megaman: He's had his ups (6, 7, X1) and his downs (Battle Chip Challenge, X7, Battle Network 5), but he will always be a great series overall.

4) Zelda: It's a classic franchise, and an amazing series, but not my favorite.

5) WarioWare: It's an amazing set of microgame collections, but I've only played Twisted, so I can't really judge the whole series. Mega Partygame$ (Gamecube port/remake of the original GBA game) costs the WarioWare series some points.

Going by series:

1. Super Robot Wars- A strategy/rpg game involving around mechs from various animes could make almost any robot/mecha fan enjoy. Unfortunately we won't get most of them in english due to many companies involve. Too bad I hear SRW and TF companies don't get along or we would have seen various TF series in the games by now.
2. Final Fantasy- Use to be fav series until SRW.
3. Super Smash Bros
4. Kingdom Hearts
5. Mario

Hmmm top 5 ey?

Well let see... (It's kinda hard to choose 'coz so many games to choose from)

1. Super Robot Wars/ Super Robot Taisen & Gundams
- SRW @(Alpha) 3 it's the ichiban (no.1 in jap) in my SRW list.
- Gundams, i made it as a number 1 too - so hard to decide 'em. LOL.

2. King Of Fighters
- All series = 2D & 3D of KOF game (Ready... Fight!)

3. Final Fantasy
- X, X-2 and VII: Dirge of Cereberus - 3 of the Final Fantasy series that i like so much. Does Kingdom Hearts 2 counts?

4. Megaman (original/old series and X series)
- FYI I don't play Battle Chip Challenge, Battle Network and Zero series.

5. Old retro games
- Like Sonic (2d), Mario, Pac-Man, Dig Dug and such.
