Karen Walsh of GeekDad/Mom.com was able to have a fairly lengthy conversation with the current Hasbro Transformers designing team, from John Warden to Ben Montano, via Sean Carmine Isabella and Louis de Armas, and talked about a range of topics concerning was goes into the planning, designing and marketing of the current lines, their trends, and what the people behind the robots see of the toyline. You can check out some snippets below, or head here for the full read!

Throughout the interview, the team’s dedication to the characters and the stories was inspiring. To this team, products are more than the end result, they are a labor of love and a passion. Mr. Warden continued by telling me that his plan for the designs “depends on the toy line and where they start. My work on Generations might not be the same as for Titans Return. Although Generations and Titans Return are playing with characters from the late ’80s, these characters are really resonating with new and old fans, so we’re trying to keep in that universe. We want to look at the range of fans and at characters’ universal appeals. We have to choose characters based on not just popularity but also purpose into the line.” It’s this commitment to both the toys as an item as well as the stories within the Transformers universe that was ultimately inspiring.

[...]

Whether it’s the play pattern, the names, or the colors, the integration of these multiple factors matters. Sean Carmine Isabella shared, “we want it to good look, but the biggest challenge is to not put a barrier in the play patterns. Play pattern starts with the core audience, so we talk to the age range. We look at what TV shows they’re watching, what cartoons they’re watching. We want to see what’s speaking to kids today.” Ben Montano follows up by noting that the different age ranges “definitely complicates things. The duality [of both toy and consumer are] what makes us unique.” Mr. Carmine Isabella shared that the integrative approach matters because “it’s a back and forth process. We’ll think about the colors and if it doesn’t make sense with the story backroad then it’s not going to work. The kids need to be able to connect to it.”

From the Australian fansite Ozformers and its user griffin, we have some recent Hasbro Australia promotional posters for the Titans Return line, featuring Powermaster Optimus Prime, Fortress Maximus and Galvatron. There is a story behind the pictures, and both can be viewed mirrored below - check them out!

Unfortunately we can't (legally) obtain the recent Transformers advertising posters, and Hasbro Australia tried to get some back for us fans, but were unable to... so they did the next best thing - they were allowed to release the three Titans Return posters as digital images to A1 paper size (that's eight times the size of regular A4 paper), and asked me to share them among the fandom, to use as wallpapers, or have printed out as posters if you have somewhere that can do it for you. (the image links will also be sent to TFW and Seibertron, to mirror as well if they choose, for greater, fairer, exposure)
So a huge thankyou to Hasbro for going to this trouble for us fans, it is greatly appreciated.

We have seen how the Hasbro Asia exclusive stickers look like on the Titans Return deluxes and now it is time to take a look at how they fair with voyagers Alpha Trion and Astrotrain as well as leader Soundwave. Due to their larger scale, the stickers will look more sparsed than on the deluxes. They are harder to make out for Alpha Trion's robot mode but they add a nice snout to the lion. They also add some very nice detail to leader Soundwave's knees though the additional stickers in media deck mode clash with the blue plastic. Please note that the train mode on Astrotrain is mistransformed with the wheel panel not brought down. These were found on the chinese website toy-people, thanks to a tip from user Blackai.

So, will any of you be getting these stickers when they hit e-bay (as wave 1 did) ?

They also show off his capabilities to mix it up with the Dia Battles', and the possibilities seem near endless. Fresh off the camera today, Seibertron.com is proud to bring to you today our latest gallery, that of MP-31 Delta Magnus with Marissa Faireborn! Delta Magnus is a redeco of the Masterpiece Ultra Magnus figure, and as such features the massive weight and blockiness of the original mold. The original Delta Magnus figure was once a diaclone figure named Powered Convoy, and while that toy was recolored to make Ultra Magnus, the original color scheme was kept and repurposed for Delta Magnus. Delta Magnus also comes with a Marissa Faireborn figure in place of the original Spike and Daniel. You can check out the whole gallery by clicking on any of the images below, and let us know what you think in the comments section below!

Emiliano Santalucia, who previously shared images of his Powermaster Optimus Prime artwork, has dropped by once again to show off another set of artwork that he did, this time for Alpha Trion! Emiliano stresses in his Facebook post that this artwork was done with no intention of making it a toy, and it was not meant to be a triple-changer either. Check out his artwork below, and let us know what you think in the comments section below!

The original Alpha Trion Sketches:
VERY IMPORTANT: these are early concepts commissioned by Hasbro that have been created years before the actual toy design began.
It would be unfair to compare them to the final model. My sketches were concepts for the character, not for a specific toy. There was no Titans Return line back then, no specific class this was meant for, no third mode.

A curiosity for this Tuesday. In a long line of what could have beens and never was-isms, we have an alternate deco revealed for a figure from way back when - courtesy of Roll Out Roll Call, The Spacebridge and Transformers At The Moon - in the form of Scorponok! Rather than the regular 1987 Headmaster deco, which you can see in our galleries here, the prototype sports some fairly neon hues, with blue instead of purple, green instead of orange, and orange instead of more purple. Check it out below, and let us know what you think!

Thanks to our friends and guru's at The Spacebridge and Transformers At The Moon - www.transformertoys.co.uk we are proud to showcase a previously unknown preproduction alternate deco for Scorponok. This awesome alternate deco may have at one point been a consideration for the Italian market, via distribution through GiG under license from Takara directly in 1987. We hope you enjoy it and look forward to providing you with more awesome reveals in the future.
