Originally, we´d heard that the special 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime figure would make it´s grand debut at OTFCC (Or "The Convention that REPLACED BotCon" to those who´ve been living in a hole for the last several months) by Hasbro. However, it now appears that the figure is SET to debut in Toyfare issue 75 in September. I say "set to debut" because Unicron was set to debut in Toyfare too, but certain internet sites stole it out from under them. This will likely happen again, so keep your eyes open.

Gimmicks, gimmicks, gimmicks! Lately Transformers toys have been all about gimmicks. And by "lately" I mean in the last fifteen or so years. Be it Headmasters, Targetmasters, Powermasters, Breast Force, Pretenders, Laser Rods, Actionmasters, Transmetals, Powerdashers, Micromasters, or Mini-Cons, it seems that giant robots engaged in a civil war spanning millions of years, hundreds of episodes, and a metric ton of comic books just isn´t cool enough for kids these days. Energon too will feature a gimmick? Will it be another "Gotta Catch ´em All" gimmick like the mini-cons? No. This time each side will have their own gimmick. The Autobots will resurrect the fan-favorite gimmick of combining. The Decepticons´ gimmick will harken back to the days of Astrotrain and Blitzwing and utilize Triple-Changing to its n-th degree. This should make for an interesting series, and a fun overall toyline!

Hasbro´s lead designer has confirmed that the Scorponok-like Decepticon featured at the Licensing Show was, in fact, Scorponok. Megatron will still be in the series, but we´ve yet to catch a glimpse of the notorious Decepticon leader. The question now is will Scorponok be a reissue of the classic figure or a new mold? We´ll find out soon enough...

After a recent Dreamwave Productions appearence, Soundwave75 of the DREAMWAVE BOARDS returned with some interesting notes straight from the mouth of Pat Lee.
Dreamwave isn´t going after the rights to the Japanese Transformers series. At least not now. Though he mentioned that "Maybe in a few years..."
When asked about the upcoming (and highly anticipated) Worlds Collide story in Armada (Starting with issue 14 in August) he mentioned that we could expect more G1 characters in the series than just Galvatron. Who will these other characters be? Scourge? Cyclonus? Goldbug? We just don´t know. Yet...

The Maximal and Predacon alphabets have been cracked. What secrets do these highly evolved (and highly entertaining) Transformers hold? A cure to cancer? A remedy to the deadly SARS virus? The cosmic forces that allowed the Chicago Cubs to triumph over the New York Yankees? Probably not. But give it a look anyway, it´s something to do.

We got a tip about a Jetstorm prototype currently on ebay. It has a nice orange and grey color scheme with a Decepticon symbol. Though the color scheme probably isn´t final as this is just a test shot. Could this be another Universe figure? Check it out here.

In a word: No. What follows was a clever little jab at current events in the fandom written by a fan:

"All attendees are to be aware that only Official Hasbro products are to be allowed in. Anyone wearing a homemade Transformers t-shirt will be asked to leave the premises. Any merchandise for sale such as Marvel Transformers comics will be removed due to license problems, and they also contradict current brand usage. A version of TF:TM dubbed to replace the phrase "H*t R*d" with the accurate character name of Rodimus Major will be screened. All toy dealers must be aware that they can only sell figures and accessories that conform to current toy safety standards and licenses.
Remember, we´re fans just like you,
Sincerely,
Hasbro PLC"
This "statement" has been making its way around the boards today. And, for once, I´m going to squash a rumor instead of spreading one. This is NOT true. It´s biting sarcasm for the most part, but becomes an obvious joke when it makes mention of editing Hot Rod´s name. Don´t worry, dealers will still be selling Takara products (and prototypes) and you won´t have to remove your home-made Transformer shirt. Hasbro would not have the authority to stop dealers from selling Non-Hasbro products (with the exception of bootlegged G1 tapes).

The following has been taken (and slightly edited) from the Energon Pub.

In Australia, There is a radio station that goes by the name of Triple J. On tuesday afternoons they have a guy come in and talk about all of our favourite tv shows from the 80´s, and this week it was transformers. On Wednesday, they were contacted by a gent from the UK who, with a lot of help from some friends and a large bank loan, built a working transformer out of two APC´s. It was, of course, Optimus Prime, and apparently, they could get him to transform and stand up. The guys said that as soon as Hasbro got word of this unbelievable creation, they threatened to sue the pants off the creators if they ever used him. So Optimus Prime is apparently sitting in a garage somewhere in the UK, gathering dust.
Could this be true? Does a real-life Optimus Prime (or Convoy to our Japanese readers) exist in a garage in the UK? Some of you may recall a similar rumor floating around a couple of years back (before yours truly was around to help keep track of such things). Such a think would definately be possible, especially considering Optimus Prime´s fairly simple Transformation, but it would take a pretty good chunk of change to make it a reality. Then there´s the problem of getting it to stand up. As with many rumors, this is "Definately possible, highly unlikely!"

Since Soundwave´s TAKARA reissue was announcced several days ago, an interesting little rumor has popped up. The rumor in question is that Soundwave will include an Energon Cube accessory. There´s absolutely nothing to confirm this at present, however if TAKARA continues the trend of adding little "goodies" with their reissues, this isn´t completely out of the realm of possibility.
