Takara's Ultra Magnus (Overload) rumors.

Today, it was revealed that Takara´s Overload will be renamed Ultra Magnus. Immediately, rumors that´d it would feature an Ultra Magnus-like color scheme (blue and red) sprang up. While Takara´s Shockwave (Tidal Wave) features a drastically different colorscheme, that has less to do with the name than what the television show counterpart looks like. I´d say this is less of a "rumor" than it is "wishfull thinking". That´s not to say that an eXdimention repaint or Ehobby exclusive isn´t possible...

Misc OTFCC rumors

With OTFCC (Official Transformers Brand Collectors Convention) quickly approaching, I thought I´d share with you great fans some of the rumors that´ve been hitting my inbox lately.

These are all rumors, they´re not confirmed

The 2004 OTFCC may be held in Chicago (or a location near Chicago) again next year. If this is true (again, IF) it would be no doubt upset fans in the Eastern US (As the West Coast will host the returning BotCon). In any event, we only have a week until this one is confirmed or debunked.

Hasbro may be selling Unicron at this year´s OTFCC. The rumored price tag is 49.99 (plus applicable sales tax). This would be your first chance to buy the Unicron figure (legally) in the US. However, if this rumor were true, one would assume that Hasbro and Glen Hallit would have been advertising this in advance. After all, that´s one REALLY BIG incentive to attend the convention.

Thanks for reading, and remember to look for the Seibertron.com crew at OTFCC next week.

Sales Tax to be Collected at OTFCC? (UPDATED!)

Rumor has it that OTFCC dealers will have to charge sales tax (somewhere around 8%) to buyers. As someone who´s attended more than a thousand collectable conventions in Illinois, I´ll be the first to say that this has NEVER come up before. Wizard World, Comic-Con, and Toy Con (3 of the biggest Collectable Conventions in the US have never engaged in this practice. This question should be answered definitively by the end of the day, so stay tuned.

This has been confirmed both by the official OTFCC FAQ and some helpful posters on the OTFCC forums. Dealers will most likely just incorporate the sales tax into their sticker prices though, so you may not even notice.

Botcon.com updated?

BotCon.com (Yes, BotCon, not OTFCC) has updated. The focus of the update is a picture. A picture of people standing in front of a building. This building happens to be The Auditorium of the City of Pasadena. The only clue as to what this picture could mean is the cryptic "Coming Soon..." I don´t even want to begin to speculate on what this could mean (Yes, even Professor Smooth doesn´t want to speculate.) but keep your eyes on BotCon.com.

Armada Knockoffs: It's Begun

This is in the rumors section because frankly, it doesn´t deserve to be on the frontpage. First of all, Armada Knockoffs have arrived. Because of shipping charges, and the (strangely high) demand for such items, it WILL be cheaper to buy from Hasbro (or maybe even Takara, shipping from overseas isn´t cheap).

After a several month absence from the scene, another of what I´ve personally dubbed "Factory Made Fakes" (although that´s still under invenstigation) has appeared. Once again, this is an all-clear Optimus Prime figure. However, this one is different from its early counterparts. On this figure, the entire trailer is clear and does not feature the sticker earlier ones had. Also, this has transparent versions of the rest of the accessories included with the recent Takara #0 Convoy reissue (axe, etc). Also, this new knock off has the Takara "Long Stacks" instead of the castrated version Hasbro´s releases sport. This figure is from the (very impressive) collection of Elvin Pena. It should be noted that Hasbro/Takara have been upset that these pieces have been made/leaving the factory. Be advised that if you buy one of these from a US seller, the possibility exists that you may face some legal troubles.

Bad News for Ebay Sellers

If you´re anything like me, you check your local retailers for new Transformers fairly often. Well, if you´re like me, you check REALLY often, but that´s beside the point. Chances are good that you´ve spotted Powerlinx Optimus Prime and/or the various Unicron Battles Mini-Cons at Wal-Mart. If you´re a fan/collector, then that´s great news. However, if you´re an Ebay seller looking to make a profit on these (arguably) desirable figures, you may have a problem. You see, it´s rumored that their release was an accident. They were not supposed to hit stores until July (after OTFCC). If you put these up for auction on Ebay, there´s a small but definate chance that Hasbro may nail you for selling unreleased prototypes. This would cause your auction to be pulled. If you´re dead set on selling these on Ebay before their REAL release date, there is one very important thing you can do to protect yourself. Save your receipt. In fact, it may be a good idea to scan it and post it along with your auction. After all, it´s not a stolen prototype if you bought it at Wal-Mart!

Armada: All Hasbro's Fault?

The latest issue of Newtype (USA edition) has an interview with someone very close to the production of the Armada television show, director Hidehito Ueda. In the interview he reveals that Armada was originally going to be a direct continuation of G1 (picking up after Rebirth) but Hasbro axed that idea. I´m going to say this again so it can really sink in. Hasbro axed the idea of a direct sequel to G1, and instead, gave us what is now Armada. Also, Unicron wasn´t added until fairly late in production. So they had to really try to squeeze him in there. This, according to Ueda, is why the pacing for the series is so erratic. He also says that they were under constant supervision by Hasbro US. So, if you don´t like the Armada cartoon, blame Hasbro. Of course, we´ve all blamed Hasbro from the very beginning, so it´s not too different. Point to them for giving us Unicron though...

A Dreamwave artist was interviewed at Canada´s "Transformerscon" yesterday. Among other interesting names that were brought up (Skyfire and Ravage), was another Simon Furman favorite. Since we´ve already got Scorponok, you´ve probably guessed that the other is Galvatron. The artist also stated that Energon Galvatron would look similar to his G1 Cartoon incarnation. Is all of this true? Or is it just preliminary information that can change at the drop of a hat? We´ll keep you posted.

This picture seems to show that a Transformer we´ve not seen in volume 2 will make his appearance by issue 6. Note the moniters.
