Auto Assembly creator Simon Plumbe has sent out another update regarding pre-registration and tickets for the fast approaching event. Here's what he had to say:

Hi all,

With under four weeks to go, it’s time for an update for those of you planning on attending Auto Assembly 2008 from outside of the UK…

It’s a natural habit of Transformers fans all over the globe to leave booking places for conventions until the last minute and it happens with Auto Assembly EVERY year with over 25% of our attendees booking in the last TWO WEEKS! However, we want to remind all of you that - because we send out confirmation packs to all of you who pre-book that you MUST bring with you on the day to ensure that you gain admission to the convention you need to allow enough time for these packs to get to you!

We do anticipate that we will have plenty of spaces available on the day although we have been told that there will be more coverage from the BBC on their local radio in the run up to the convention so we are still recommending pre-booking. Not to mention the fact that we are going to be operating a “fast track” check-in that will allow those of you arriving on Friday to pick up your packs a day early and get in as soon as the doors open on Saturday… but we’ll tell you more about that another time!

UK Attendees

For those of you pre-registering from within the UK, we would ask that you ensure that your bookings reach us by Sunday 27th July 2008 at the ABSOLUTE latest. This will give us enough time to process your bookings and get your packs sent out to you by first class post on 28th or 29th July at the latest.

International Attendees

To give us the best chance of ensuring that your packs reach you in time for the convention, we would ask that you get your pre-bookings into us by Sunday 20th July 2008. Confirmation packs will be sent out to you by airmail by 21st or 22nd July at the latest which should allow enough time for them to reach you.

We will not be held responsible for confirmation packs not delivered for bookings received after these dates although we will endeavour to process all bookings in time for the convention.

New Goodie Bag Item!

Yes, we have another item confirmed for the goodie bag! This year we are pleased to confirm that we will be giving away not one, not two, but THREE exclusive Auto Assembly postcards! They will be featuring artwork from Simon Williams, Mike Collins and Lee Sullivan!

The original artwork from all three will be available in the charity auction and all three will also be appearing on our convention exclusive keyrings which will be on sale on the Registration Desk for just £1.50 each!

Well, that’s it for this mini-update, but we should have a few more announcements soon so keep an eye out on all the major TF websites and forums and we hope to see a lot of you all on 2nd August!

As always, for all the latest information on Auto Assembly 2008, to book online or to download booking forms or for more information on anything in this update, visit the website at http://www.autoassembly.org.uk

BigPete of the Nordic Transfans Association got a chance to chat with Auto Assembly co-creator Simon Plumbe, via email, recently and spoke with him about the conception of Auto Assembly and all the work that he and his partner, Sven Harvey, have put into creating one of the UK's biggest Transformers conventions.

An excerpt from the interview:

Is there a lot of money involved in a convention of this size, and did any of it come out of your own pockets?

We've been pretty lucky with Auto Assembly and every year - with the exception of Auto Assembly 2004 - has broken even and left us with some money left over which has either been reinvested back into future years or gone to our nominated charities.
In terms of home much they have cost, earlier conventions were on a fairly small budget, but this year at a rough guess it is going to cost us around £7,500 which has to come from attendees, fanzine sales, and dealer table bookings which is why we we're asking for as many people to pre-register as possible!

In the interview, Mr. Plumbe went on to speak about attendance and other issues regarding AA that has happened over the years along with one thing that was very suprising: HASBRO UK doesn't seem to want any affiliation with the convention despite numerous attempts by Sven and Simon to get them to Auto Assembly.

A GI Joe collector reporting after the just completed Joecon:

"- When asked about the date for next year's con, Brian [Savage] stated it was not set yet, but would likely take place right before the movie. The same goes for next year's Transformers Botcon and that both conventions would likely be about 6 weeks apart from one another. "

Taken from http://toynewsi.com/news.php?catid=9&itemid=13145

With the movie scheduled for June 26th, 2009, according to the information we could expect Botcon to be scheduled very close to that opening weekend, perhaps the weekend before. Not a surprise to many I am sure.

Where, and the exact when are still an unknown at this time.

Slashfilm.com and the Transformers Live Action Movie Blog are reporting that Paramount has opted out of the San Diego Comic-Con (July 23rd-27th) and will not be promoting anything from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, the upcoming sequel to the 2007 Transformers movie, scheduled for June 26th 2009.

The San Diego Comic Con has traditionally been the place where studios release teaser information or make surprise announcements (like the return of Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime for last year's film) about upcoming films.

TFormers is reporting new details about the Transformers Alternity line, which they gathered at the International Tokyo Toy Show 2008 from the TakaraTomy booth.

You can view the original article here.

1) The Alternity is a different series from Binaltech.

2) The size is 1/32 scale so it can easily fit on any desktop thus the size is slightly larger than deluxe size figures.

3) The pricing scheme was based on today's cost of the various materials used (die-cast, plastic etc).

4) There are two colors of the car because the silver was used to represent a real NISSAN GT-R color that is only available now and the red was chosen specifically because it is a Convoy.

5) When transformed, the rear seats becomes the feet, the front seats when folded down becomes part of the armor surrounding the arms and the roof and the front grill have a spring action mechanism. The video demonstrates the spring action mechanism where the front grill is divided into three pieces: right, left and center. The right and left sides encloses the center piece.

6) Because the license is heavily under the supervision of NISSAN, Takara Tomy would like sales schedule to start in November but it may be delayed to the end of the year.

7) Other Observations: The design of the head is similar to Nike and Fire Convoy

Today was TFCon 2008 in Toronto, Canada, which was Canada's 7th Annual Transformers Convention. Our fellow Seibertronian and Seibertron.com New Crew member Down_Shift was there to help cover the events from today. He sent me several text messages highlighting some items from the show today and said that he has a lot of pictures which he'll be sharing with us in the next couple of days. To tie you guys over, here's what he said via text message earlier today:

"Hey boss, Fan projects are here at tfcon and they are showing the magnus upgrade kit with a TFCon exclusive Powered Convoy (Diaclone colors). There's also a new Alternators Prime kit too. Gas can become G1 ion blaster and new rad support becomes matrix chamber and matrix. Lots of pictures! I just took so many up close pictures of Universe Ironhide and his weapon. You fold his hand back to attach his weapon to his wrist."

I'll be sure to share his pictures with all of you as soon as I get them!
