June 18th, 2008 marks the first anniversary of the first posting of a Transformers: Mosaic comic strip!

No one is more stunned than us that we're now looking back over a whole year of running this project, now at an output of over 200 individual comic strip pages, with no signs of slowing.

So on this proud occasion, we'd like to send out our thanks and a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY too the people who made all of this happen: YOU!

Yup, it's passion of the (400+!!) creators, and the countless enthusiastic and receptive readers that have made this possible. Take a bow, each of you!

Huge thanks also go out to Chris Ryall and the IDW Publishing crew for supporting the project enough to print Mosaic strips in their Transformers comics. Thanks also go out to the great people at Hasbro for including this project in licensed media.

We'd also like to thank all of the professional Transformers creators who have enthusiastically contributed their valuable time to bring some of these pieces to life, which in one case even led to a Mosaic being part of official canon!

Thanks for the last year everyone, we'll see you throughout the next one!

Oh, and here's your birthday card:

Transformers scribe extraordinaire Simon Furman has updated his blog with his Script Wrap for IDW Publishing's Spotlight: Wheelie (released today, 18th June 2008).

Unlike the majority of his Script Wraps, the plot of Spotlight: Wheelie is kept disclosed by Furman, instead Furman spends most of his time heaping the praise on Artist Klaus Scherwinski, who came up with the original idea for the book, as well as doing the art.

It’s no secret that I have little regard for the old (or maybe young) Wheelster, so it’s due credit to artist Klaus Scherwinski for managing to get me motivated enough to join his little venture. Make no mistake, this is Klaus’s book. He came up with the original story concept idea and asked me if I’d pitch in on the writing front. We kneaded and refined the story together, then I wrote what amounted to an old ‘Marvel-style plot’ (in which the action was loosely broken down in clumps of pages) and away Klaus went, breaking down the story, pencilling, inking and colouring the entire book and co-collaborating on the dialog we then layered in to the art. And the end result? Very pleased. We did the IDW thing with Wheelie and while not discarding what had come before entirely re-created him for this new continuity, in the process turning him (we hope) into less of a two-dimensional (and annoying, let’s face it) character. Of all the Spotlights I’ve been involved in, this is perhaps the most focused, the most character-led, and yet still there’s a penultimate page payoff that makes it a part of something MUCH bigger. We even get around to explaining why (by the end of the issue) he talks in rhyme!
