IDW PUBLISHING INFILTRATES BOTCON 2006
Publishers of The Transformers Comic Books To Offer Show Exclusive
San Diego, CA (September 25, 2006)—IDW Publishing Editor-In-Chief Chris Ryall and Editor Dan Taylor are headed to Kentucky, where they will be guests at BotCon 2006, the official Transformers convention sponsored by the Hasbro’s Transformers Collectors Club and Hasbro. This major Transformers event takes place September 30th and October 1st at the Lexington Convention Center and the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Lexington, Kentucky and offers a vast array of events and opportunities for all Transformers enthusiasts—including exclusives, souvenirs, contests, dealers, panels, and more.
IDW Publishing will be featured on panels to discuss the Transformers’ return to comic books—past, present, and future. With the conclusion of the first chapter, The Transformers: Infiltration, an all-new chapter is beginning with The Transformers: Escalation in November. As an extra-special treat for attendees, Transformers writer Simon Furman and fan-favorite artist Don Figueroa will both be on hand to sign copies of their comics, discuss future plans and, in Don’s case, sketch for fans, too. Also to be covered are the roles that Transformers: Stormbringer and the Transformers Spotlight series play in the scheme of all things, and the future of IDW’s Transformers comics, as well as IDW’s involvement with the summer movie event of 2007—Transformers: Prime Directive.
IDW will also be offering for sale a very limited BotCon 2006 Exclusive Edition of Transformers Spotlight: Nightbeat, by Furman and MD Bright, which will not be made available anywhere else.

Brian Savage just sent this e-mail out:
Hello Club Member!
A week or so ago we announced that there would be some limits placed
on the BotCon souvenir purchases at the show this coming weekend. This
message relates to the unannounced two souvenir sets and has no effect
on the boxed BotCon sets.
Because of the high number of Primus package holders who have
pre-registered, here are the rules we are putting in place to make the sales of
these items as fair as they can be:
Primus package holders (who pre-registered) will be limited to one set
each of the souvenir pieces (there are two sets) per person (not
package). For example, if you purchased three Primus packages in your name,
you will only be able to purchase one set each of the two souvenir
sets. Only Primus package holders will be allowed to purchase these items
on Thursday and Friday.
There are barely enough pieces for each pre-registered Primus package
holder to purchase one per person. This is even after we manufactured
25% more pieces than the previous year's souvenirs. We wish there were
more but unfortunately there are not.
We also do not guarantee that walk-up registrants on Friday will have
this souvenir purchase opportunity. We will make that decision on
Thursday night after close of registration, as we will re-inventory.
We will hold enough sets until Friday close of business, so that every
pre-registered Primus package holder has the opportunity to purchase a
souvenir set (if they want it).
On Saturday morning, if there are any available, we will then offer
them to the Dealers (one set each) via a raffle system if so needed.
After that, we will open it to the Protoform package holders and then if
there are any left, we will open it back up to the Primus Package holders
and then the General Public. We do have systems in place so that we
can tell exactly who purchased what.
We are very excited about seeing you at the show.
The Dealer Room is sold-out (200+ tables), the guest list is terrific,
and the activities will be outstanding at BotCon '06! The response has
been overwhelming and we are looking forward to the best BotCon ever!
We appreciate your support of the club and the show and we apologize
for any inconvenience this may cause anyone.
See you this weekend in Lexington!
Brian

Reports are starting to show up on the 'net stating that a scene from the upcoming Dreamworks'
Transformers Movie will be filmed at the old "
Central Station" train station in Detroit, Michigan.
Here's an excerpt from the article:
The shooting will begin around the first week in October. The movie will be directed by Michael Bay, who shot portions of the movie "The Island" in downtown Detroit. His experience his last time around using Detroit as a location spot was so positive, he said he had to come back, according to his producer, Ian Bryce. Apparently, Detroit really knows how to roll out the red carpet for movie crews with cooperation from the city, the police department and a huge pool of talent, Detroit has become the come-to place for Hollywood. And we love it!
I don't recall any scene in the version of the
Transformers Movie script that I read (dated February 2006) that included a scene in Detroit or at a train station so I'm not sure if the location will be represented as a train station or something else.

Having grown up in Fenton, MI (
a suburb of Metro Detroit), I have to say that I'm extremely happy for Detroit. This is really exciting for a city that's had a couple of rough decades due to the decline of the auto industry in the Motor City. Congratulations Detroit - this Metro-Detroit-native-now-living-in-Chicago is rooting for you! Now all Detroit needs is the
Detroit Tigers to get a division win to top off this news!!!
EDIT: My Dad just sent me a link on Wikipedia for Detroit's "
Central Station" which basically gives a rundown on the entire history of this historic building:

To further commemorate the 20th anniversary of the film, SONY BMG is providing fans with some extra-celebratory content that lets them track back to the true origins of the TRANSFORMERS, including original commercials for the toy line and movie.
Sony BMG Home Entertainment is expanding the DVD’s collectibility to the packaging itself. The company has commissioned fan-favorite artist Don Figueroa to create the imagery for a special “transforming” cover.
TRANSFORMERS: The Movie features the voice of Orson Welles in his final role, as well as stars Eric Idle, Judd Nelson, Leonard Nimoy, Casey Kasem, Robert Stack, John Moschitta, Peter Cullen, and Frank Welker. The DVD also features a winning soundtrack featuring the iconic theme "The TRANSFORMERS" performed by Lion, and the popular "The Touch," performed by Stan Bush. The movie, set in 2005, chronicles the efforts of the heroic Autobots to defend their home of Cybertron from the evil Decepticons and Unicron, a huge robotic creature that devours planets.
