Toy manufacturers are betting on a good year for sales with summer movies to help promote their toys. With so many action packed movies like Spiderman, Pirates of the Caribbean, Fantastic Four, and Transformers- what will be the most popular toy?

Sheliah Gilliland of Internet toy retailer EToys.com is betting on Transformers.

"Transformers will be the biggest seller — it's a movie based on a line of toys that has been popular since the '80s," she said. "They have always been strong sellers but, because of the movie, they are coming back in a huge way."

With so many sequels, toy manufacturers — as well as the studios — must up the ante to outdo the previous offering.

Transformers are considered the ultimate boy toys that could also be a hit with dads who played with them when they were young.

Hasbro has come out with an updated line, including the Optimist Prime truck that transforms into a blaster with one pull of a handle. The company will release a new video game in time for Father's Day.

In this summer's toy war, Hasbro, may have the most to lose.

Hasbro holds the master toy license to three Marvel comic-book movies being released this summer, "Spider-Man 3," "Transformers" and "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer." That means the manufacturer will essentially be competing against itself in the toy aisle.

But having toy lines for three summer blockbusters may not be a walk in the park for Hasbro.

Lots of movies do not translate to strong toy sales, said Gerrick L. Johnson, an analyst with BMO Capital Markets Corp.

"We think this [Marvel licensing] deal will be a profitable one for Hasbro; we also think it is expensive and risky," he wrote in a recent report.

The company needs $1 billion in Marvel-related sales over the next five years to make a profit on the licenses, he said. "That is a lot of toys and our concern is that interest in super-hero-related movies and toys will begin to wane."

Hasbro is confident it will gain from its Transformers brand and has signed deals with 230 licensees worldwide for T-shirts, bedding, cellphones and shoes.

"It's much more about total enterprise for us," said Brian Goldner, chief executive of Hasbro. "We know we have created a great array of products for kids and collectors."

Three months ago, we saw a rumor that the Transformers Movie would hold it’s premiere in South Korea on June 28th. At the time, Nelson from Shoot for the Edit, indicated that this might only be a rumor. Now, it’s looking as if the initial reporting is true!

According to The Korea Times,

The director and star of the anticipated blockbuster ``Transformers'' will hold a press junket in N Seoul Tower tonight, before its world premier across Korean theaters on June 28.

It is the first time a Hollywood film is having its opening event in Korea.

Iconic director Michael Bay (``Armageddon,'' ``The Rock'') and up-and-coming actress Megan Fox, the heroine of the film, will be talking to journalists and fans alongside the actual model of the film's ``character'' Autobot Bumblebee, towering 5.2 meters and weighing 3.7 tons.

As mentioned before, the actors of the Transformers Movie for this summer have signed on 3 movies. But it apparently doesn't end at 3 movies if it's up to Michael Bay...

According to GrendelKahn from Clantsu.org, Michael Bay told the press at the Koren Press Conference for the World Premier Pictures, that if Transformers 1, 2 and 3 are a succes, they would do a fourth and fifth movie as well!

Note that this is a fairly new source and therefor we have listed this as a rumor for now.

Peter Cullen has been a busy guy. The other day, we reported here, here, and here regarding interviews with Peter Cullen. Well, now Ain’t It Cool News.com had a chance to sit down with “The Voice” of Optimus Prime and share with us some behind the scene information that we have not heard of yet.

When Cullen was asked about the Prime’s characteristics on the screen he had this to say:

Quint: Was there any difference in how you personally approached the character?

Peter Cullen: Not at all, no. Prime is Prime and yeah, he still has all the traits that were first initiated in the break down, the first character breakdowns that I read back 1983 or 84. He hasn’t changed one bit. Hey if it’s not broken, don’t fix it!

Quint: It looks like just the hugest, most crazy science fiction action thing… like nothing that we have ever really seen executed at this level, you know?

Peter Cullen: [Michael Bay] is responsible for so many great things, including giving Optimus Prime a sense of humor, which makes him more believable, working in the human relation situation along with the real people. Prime is actually charmingly funny. That’s a step in the right direction!

Quint: Yeah, well I think the very first thing the talkbackers and the readers of Ain't It Cool, the site that I write for, are going to want to know… is your opinion on the redesign of the robots, specifically Optimus. What do you think about flames on… you?

Peter Cullen: Well, number 1, just to see it, it’s overwhelming, there are changes, but everything in life changes… cars change every year and I think if one uses his imagination and you separate the sentiment and the history and the memories and tradition and that stuff, because nothing really stays the same anyway, you can actually justify Optimus Prime… a mechanical situation, going to advanced… advanced designs, which makes perfect sense to me, because he still maintains the core of character, with all the ingredients of leadership and that’s what made him an icon. I mean, the writers are fantastic and they have never gone away from that. They have maintained a very strong commitment with his qualities and they did a wonderful job. They’re brilliant, brilliant guys… wonderfully talented…
