| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (932982) Posted by Hard Hacker on June 6th, 2009 @ 5:09pm CDT Both look pretty good. Oil Slick was a good fun mould I wouldn't mind having again, and Rodimus Minor looks pretty nice as well. | |
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (932983) Posted by Marcdachamp on June 6th, 2009 @ 5:10pm CDT Rodimus looks great. Can't wait to pick him up. | |
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (932985) Posted by OPTIMUS MAGNUS on June 6th, 2009 @ 5:16pm CDT Awesome. Shall pick these up. I am a sucker for TFA toys. | |
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (932988) Posted by MidnightBliss on June 6th, 2009 @ 5:19pm CDT Rodimus is a MUST! Oil Slick looks good but, I have the original. We'll see if that becomes an impulse buy. | |
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (932998) Posted by Cheetron on June 6th, 2009 @ 5:43pm CDT Oil Slicker looks nice and it's good to know we don't have to have the engine up in alt mode for Roddy. That shade of red looks horrid on him, almost like it's a purple. | |
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933001) Posted by pr0wl on June 6th, 2009 @ 5:49pm CDT i will have to get rodimus but "oil sick" was only partially in one episode "transwarped" and he was in the background in CYBERTRONIAN mode so can we officially call him an animated figure? | |
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933004) Posted by Megatron Wolf on June 6th, 2009 @ 5:51pm CDT Hot Rod looks awesome cant wait to get one. I like the Oil Slick mold but this one isnt that different from the original so i think ill have to pass. | |
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933005) Posted by Sabrblade on June 6th, 2009 @ 5:53pm CDT WHY does Hasbro keep messing up Rodimus Prime's name?!! He's NOT a MINOR, he's a PRIME! He was seen more than that. He's the one who threw the Cosmic Rust at Rodimus Prime and even had a speaking role! | |
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933009) Posted by JesWal on June 6th, 2009 @ 6:10pm CDT Yay! Rodimus IS in cartoon colors! I am all over this figure now! Oil Slick is meh. The first one's good enough for me. | |
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933010) Posted by TfAnimatedfan on June 6th, 2009 @ 6:14pm CDT Wait, Oil Slick wasn't annonced at Botcon was he ? Does this mean we may get more Animated figures we haven't heard of. | |
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933012) Posted by Gauntlet101010 on June 6th, 2009 @ 6:20pm CDT Rodimus has some odd proportions right there. But he's still pretty cool. Somehow I find it ironic that Energon Arcee was an archer and now so is Animated Rodimus. Now all we need is Springer to suddennly develop some archery skills ... | |
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933014) Posted by Moon on June 6th, 2009 @ 6:28pm CDT Roddy gets me excited but that Oil Slick repaint just came out of nowhere. | |
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933015) Posted by Samsonator on June 6th, 2009 @ 6:35pm CDT Transformers 2010, Rodimus... and now a new Rodimus for release in 2010? Coincidence? I THINK SO! No but seriously... I like the look of Animated Roddy, I'm totally gonna pick that one up. | |
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933018) Posted by dumbprime on June 6th, 2009 @ 6:38pm CDT
Because he is suppose to be Hot Rod, not Rodimus Prime but they lost the rights to the Hot Rod name, hence the name Rodimus Minor
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933022) Posted by Blurrz on June 6th, 2009 @ 6:55pm CDT
This Oil Slick Repaint was shown at one of the Hasbro panels, but several people forgot to mention it, as the differences between the repaint at the original are minimal.
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933031) Posted by Primus1101 on June 6th, 2009 @ 7:24pm CDT why in the nine hells does rodimus' face remind me of woody from toy story??? hmm.. anyway, still cool. | |
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933032) Posted by ShGarland_1383 on June 6th, 2009 @ 7:25pm CDT
This is minimal? This is nearer to what was used for the tech spec bio printed in the TFCC mag #24 back in December. Might get him again, keep the repaint in package.
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933074) Posted by Sabrblade on June 6th, 2009 @ 8:52pm CDT No. He is NOT supposed to be Hot Rod, he is supposed to be Rodimus Prime. Back when the character was first announced and all the times after, he was labeled as "Rodimus Prime". And during this LONG time period, his Robot Mode was the only form that had been seen. His vehicle mode wasn't seen until MUCH later in an April Fools pic. The fact that they lost lost the name "Hot Rod" does not affect this guy. It does affect the G1 character, but only him and no one else. He is not and wasn't supposed to be Hot Rod, he has always been Rodimus Prime. This toy is the first and only thing that has messed up his name. Or, just read this:
Basically, ignore the G1 character and his name issues, as he's got nothing to do with this guy aside from similar looks and voices.
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933095) Posted by dumbprime on June 6th, 2009 @ 9:25pm CDT
OK, Sabrblade you win He is suppose to be a prime. Just to me I don't like to refer a figure being Rodimus Prime without the camper part. to me the sports car version with out the camper is and always will be Hot Rod.

| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933162) Posted by skywarp-2 on June 6th, 2009 @ 10:59pm CDT Dude... who in their right mind would want to be called.. Rodimus Minor??? I mean come on.. Rodimus is one thing, but the addition of Minor?? seriously!! that's like calling your self Peter Small! | |
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933190) Posted by Gauntlet101010 on June 7th, 2009 @ 12:11am CDT It's how it is in Animated. And the last highest office is "Magnus". Moreover, there's an "Optimus Minor" in Beast Wars. Although, at one point Ultra Magnus must have been called "Ultra Minor". WTF? | |
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933202) Posted by Evil_the_Nub on June 7th, 2009 @ 1:06am CDT I thought they had a loophole for name copyrights. Just add Autobot or Decepticon in front of it, like Autobot Jazz, or Decepticon Brawl. | |
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933232) Posted by ShGarland_1383 on June 7th, 2009 @ 4:12am CDT
Not really. I mentioned the tech spec bio the Transformers Club ran when they started the G1-style cards in the Magazine. The usage of a character that already saw a toy made kind of implied a repaint would be coming, IMO. Since I had a look again while kicking this post around, I've got to admit it: while the repaint ended up very different from the design in that bio, these pics still end up nearer to that than to the original figure. (I somehow think the image in Oil Slick's tech spec bio ended up becoming a repaint of Lockdown instead. I'm not sure if it's Blazing or Bandit, but one of the two.)
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933242) Posted by Diem on June 7th, 2009 @ 6:06am CDT I'm surprised that so many people are fussed about whether he's Rodimus Minor or Rodimus Prime, or what. Once you've bought him and taken him home you can call him whatever the damn hell you want. On a side note, when Sentinel Prime got promoted to Sentinel Magnus (presumably), does that mean Jazz got promoted to Jazzimus Prime or something? | |
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933260) Posted by skywarp-2 on June 7th, 2009 @ 8:52am CDT
beyond the joke that I made, the addition of Minor, and Magnus, and Prime after each characters name as a ranking system of sorts is utterly ridiculous.. so by animated standards then when do we see a Jazz Minor, or a Bumblebee Prime.. I never liked when they started using the actual names as ranks.. Optimus Prime to me meant his rank was "Commander" of the Autobots. Ultra Magnus to me meant his rank was "City commander" for Autobot City. and so on and so on.. then they started to call a leader "Prime" in the comics and after that it looks like they keep trying to make a name more then it should be.. just a robots name.. atleast that is how I feel about it.. I guess I'm old school.. I always liked it like G-1 held it..
good Point Diem! | |
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933367) Posted by Jaz-Zen on June 7th, 2009 @ 2:48pm CDT Yes, for Hot Rod in general, Hasbro should have just started calling him "Autobot Hot Rod", saving the "Rodimus" name for when he becomes a Prime. As for this toy, they should have just called him "Rodimus" leaving his rank ambiguous. Also, I always thought the Classics Rodimus would be THE Hot Rod of my collection, but I really like the looks of this one. Really prefer this bow weapon over missile weapon of Classics Rodimus. As to names and ranks, I mostly agree. "Prime" means things like "chief" "primary" "most important", etc., so I always like that Prime was a rank, but they really should have kept it as THE most important rank. I mean, if you really want to get technical, "Ultra" would be the "title" part of Ultra Magnus' name, not Magnus, the concept being that before he puts his G1 armor on, he's just Magnus, and then when he puts his armor on, he's "Ultra Magnus." So I think it would have been cooler if they kept with naming tradition, and called any squad leader an "Ultra' instead of a "Prime". Then we would have gotten Ultra Optimus and Magnus Prime. Then when Optimus got the Hammer, he could have officially become the new Prime, Optimus Prime, and Magnus, if he's even alive in the Animated universe, could have become Ultra Magnus. I would have LOVED to see Leader Ultra Magnus repainted with Optimus' colors and with Optimus' head, and Voyager Optimus repainted with Magnus' colors and head. Ah well, I'm dreaming and rambling, so I'll stop now. Thanks for reading! -J- | |
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933408) Posted by Sabrblade on June 7th, 2009 @ 4:37pm CDT Not possible. Hasbro can no longer use the name "Hot Rod" in any way for a Transformers toy character. This is because Mattel already registered the trademark for the name "Hot Rod" for their own toys. But his rank isn't ambiguous. Both his official bio in the TFCC Magazine (written by the TF Animated staff) and his position in the Animated cartoon as a commander of a team clearly state him to be a Prime. They just wanted to be different for this series. What's wrong with being different? Say what? G1 Ultra Magnus was never called just "Magnus" (he has been called this as a nickname, but not as a real name). There's only been one time where his armor was removed, and he was still called "Ultra Magnus" in that armorless form. But then we wouldn't have had an "Optimus Prime" at all during the bulk the series. That name is what kids know and what sells. | |

| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933430) Posted by kirbenvost on June 7th, 2009 @ 5:49pm CDT Definitely picking up a Rodimus, good thing we've seen the actual toy already, because the colors are a bit too dark in this picture. | |
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933577) Posted by Heckfire on June 7th, 2009 @ 11:50pm CDT Considering Sentinel Minor was a drill sergeant in "Autoboot Camp," wouldn't that be enough rank to command a small squad? Gonna get both...Rod looks sweet, and Oil Slick is already one of my favorite TF molds. | |
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933711) Posted by Sabrblade on June 8th, 2009 @ 9:52am CDT Sentinel was a Prime after he was a Minor. Minors work in the training camps for new Eilte Guard cadets, while Primes are the commanders out on the battelfront. Seriously, which rank sounds higher: Minor or Prime? | |
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933727) Posted by Overloaded on June 8th, 2009 @ 10:20am CDT 2010 is so far away I want Rodimus now | |
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933762) Posted by Dagon on June 8th, 2009 @ 12:09pm CDT Oil Slick doesn't really look that different to me.... | |
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933772) Posted by GuyIncognito on June 8th, 2009 @ 12:34pm CDT Rodimus is really cool. I love TFs with bows/crossbows. He IS coming out... right? The Oil Slick repaint is *ahem* slick *ahem*, but is there really any demand for it? | |
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (933864) Posted by ShGarland_1383 on June 8th, 2009 @ 3:36pm CDT
I dunno. If I get this repaint, it's to keep it carded, and I ended up really enjoying this mold when I bought the original. If I pass, it's because I've already got the original. Edit: I'd suggest anyone who wanted the original and can't find it by the time the repaint turns up get the repaint.

Wow CP, I would have thought that Oil Slick was right up your ally, personally he is one my favourites from the animated line. repaint is different, but still too similar in colours to the original for me to consider purchasing it. Would have liked to have seen a fire themed repaint in black red and orange... that would set it apart from the browns, greens and mustard yellow of the first toy.
| Re: New Photos of Animated Rodimus Minor and Oil Slick Repaint (934007) Posted by Kibble on June 8th, 2009 @ 10:53pm CDT What's wrong with Little Rod's head? Does he look that "special" in the 'toon? | |

Also, I only just noticed but he seems to be wearing trainers. Just do it, Rodimus Minor!
