We have just learned about the latest installment of Transformers merchandising. TFW2005 has just received an image of a Transformers Lite Brite Pattern set with 50 pegs. The set looks like comes with two patterns, a G1 Sideswipe and G1 Decepticon Symbol. The packaging is also very similar to the Transformers Classics style. Interesting... a piece of fairly random TF merchandise that's branded with the Classics packaging design rather than the movie. I was going to comment on the picture of G1 Sideswipe - *everyone* seems to use pics of the G1 designs when they're actually referencing movie stuff - but then realised the whole thing was in the Classics style.

I'm quite surprised by that TBH, since Classics is apparently just a filler toyline before the movie stuff hits and I expected all the tie-in merchandise to be movie-based.

I am also suprised at the packaging. Like you I thought they would try to tie everything to the movie.

This just serves to remind me of how I used to mix up the Lite Brite song.

"Lite Brite! Lite Brite! Knights of the Magical Light!"

Didn't they have Transformer legos already, though they were based off the Armada line?

Posted by Sunstar on March 20th, 2007 @ 12:54pm CDT
Yes they did. I am getting an Armada Starscream BTR Set soon. I htink it's cool. It's not lego lego...a sort of knockoff brand or some slag.

I may be showing my age here, but remember when Lite Brites and Legos were made for children to use their IMAGINATION? Damn. It's almost like having a puzzle with numbered pieces.

Lite Brites had patterns even when they first came out.

Cool that they have G1 designs, but I don't think I'll be buying a lite brite for this.
BTW they did do lite brite sets for Armada and energon I believe.

Merchandizing has no shame!

I don't know why, but something about this screams wrong...so let the ueeless mass marketing of TFs begin...I say useless to an extent because you know we're going to get a bunch of crappy toys and merchandise before the actual release. Mind you, I know some will be worth the money, but not everything!

Perhaps your folks bought yours from a Kmart, back when Kmart had a little restaurant inside it?

That wouldn't surprise me. It was as if my aunt spent her life savings to get me my Optimus Prime.

Two thoughts:

1- Your telling me they still make Lite Brite?

2- Wasn't one of the Easter eggs on the 20th anniversary TF Movie DVD released last year a promo for Lite Brite patterns?

It's a box with a lightbulb in it with holes in the box that you put a pattern over top with a piece of black construction paper, and you put colored pegs into the pattern that shine the light through them and make it all pretty. Lame toy.

Sounds exciting.

I'll go play with a shiney metal object now.

I beg to differ. Lite Brite offers another way for kids (old or young) to express their creativity. Lite Brite holds the same place in my heart as do Etchasketch (sp?) and magnadoodle. Sure, there's not much in the way of creativity in the patterns, but like a coloring book, a Lite Brite can spark the creativity to allow kids to imagine their own designs. (Somewhere I have a Lite Bright vikings helmet)

Nothing said you needed a pattern. just the pegs.
