BBTS Announces MP-Grimlock Price Savings!

BigBadToyStore.com- Yes indeed, site sponsor, online store BBTS Has listed the newest Masterpiece figure for pre-order...MASTERPIECE GRIMLOCK. The news of his possible release, while rumored over a year back, just resurfaced recently, and now this, a pre-order for the toy which would confirm the earlier story

The Dinobot commander looks to be getting the ultimate toy creation joining the likes of Optimus Prime, Megatron, and Starscream before him.

After years of rumors, Takara has finally announced the Masterpiece Grimlock figure! Takara has increased the retail pricing on this item to 13,000 yen, so we would expect this figure to be slightly larger and bulkier than previous Masterpiece figures, which were in the 10,000 yen MSRP range. More details to be listed as they are released.

No actual toy images have surfaces yet, but it won't be long now, if this toy is due out in March 2009!

I hope he isn't as back-heavy as that silhouette makes him look...

I wonder why there's never been a leaked prototype photo of this figure.

I'm still not entirely convinced that he's really coming out soon.

I have been waiting for this all my life lol. I really want to see some images of him! Will he get the awesomeness of prime or the mediocrity of Megs? At $150.00 I hope he is taller than prime!

They are really pushing the price limit on a toy I only have minimal interest in.

I hope that, in a few years, they'll release him in G1 colours (as opposed to the more realistic colours of the Japanese release) as a store exclusive.

I see everybody jumping into the bandwagon. Don't you guys want to at least see a photo of the product before buying it?

At BBTS you don't pay until it arrives and ships. So it's more like we're saving a place in line.

So if money gets tighter, or pics come out and I hate 'em, I just cancel my pre-order....

This may be my next Masterpiece figure. Will be antsy now for pics.

Joking aside, I do wonder if they'll go the full G1-route and give him a completely mechanical dino mode, or if they'll try and give him an organic looking form.

I'm not gonna preorder it just yet, though I'm fairly certain I will in a month or so. Grimlock was one of the MPs I really wanted to see, so I'm happy he's getting the treatment. Now if they'd just follow him up with Shockwave, I'd be in heaven.

I just placed my preorders...but at $150 a pop, I'm wondering if Takara-Tommy raised the MSRP or is that just import markup on BBTS' part?

Without pics, and a pricetag of $150.00, this is easily a pass for me. Then again, until Animated, I was never a big fan of the Dinobots anyway.

I'll wait for the inevitable US release. It'll take at least a year or more, but it'll be half the price, and I'll be able to pick one that looks the best, cuz lets face it...the QC's gonna be all over the map on this guy.

I don't think I'd call a US release inevitable. We've only seen two out of 7 MPs released over here.

Agreed. Especially given what the price point will be.....

IMO anything other than a scaled up version of G1 Grimlock with suitably enhanced articulation and detailing will cause a lot of cancelled orders.
A War Within tank Grimlock or a more organic looking T-Rex mode could look good but so far the Masterpiece line has been about the "ultimate" evolution of the G1 toys and I'll be suprised if Takara deviate from that.

True. With my new family budget in place now, I'm quickly becoming "TFWanter" more than anything else...

I've just noticed the weight for this guy - 7lbs!!!

Prime was about 5lbs, Megatron and Starscream around 3lbs. He's gonna cost an absolutely ridiculous amount to ship, but I think it's a good sign!

The extra weight would seem a good indication of the size of Grimlock being as big as we all hope.

Does anybody else think it'd be cool if Takara did a deal with the Jizaitoys people to release their Wheelie as one of Grimlock's extras?

I wonder if BBTS is marking the price up too much. All the other MP's have had a suggested retail price of $110, but sell for Y8,000 in Japan.

Ultra Magnus? Repaint of Optimus. (We received that mold.)
Starscream? Repaint of the puke green original, uses the Skywarp mold. (We received it as well.)

The only Masterpiece mold we never had on these shores is Megatron.

There's no reason to believe that we wouldn't see Masterpiece Grimlock here. He's not a gun, he's not illegal, and there are a lot of Dinobot fans here. Wal-Mart or Target would probably pick him up.

That's why I say it's inevitable. Though, to be fair, anything's possible, but when you look at the overall list of Masterpieces, they're just variations of three molds. (Four, if you count repack Convoy's trailer.)

Based on past operating procedures, the sales figures, and who it is...I'm willing to bank on a domestic release. Even if he doesn't come here, I'm still not paying $150.00 for him. Not a chance.

I think this is one that Hasbro will pick up. However, the US MP1s were pretty crappy, especially the DVD version, when compared to Takara's. Metal always > plastic for MPs imo, and for that alone this is worth it. 150? I'll pay that gladly for a 7 POUND Grimlock.

Um...the way you're making it sound, it seems like you believe the US versions don't have Die Cast. Um...they do. Prime sure does.

There's no reason to believe it couldn't be Grimlock. (though I doubt they'd push him out that soon, considering he'll be hitting Japan earlier in the year, but weirder things have happened.)
