As filming continues for Transformers: The Dark of the Moon, it seems that the film crew continues to be plagued by a string of bad luck. According to TMZ.com, the TF3 was filming when a reported bomb scare caused an Explosive Ordinance Police Vehicle to accidentally enter the set and collided with the Camaro that has been used as Bumblebee. TMZ also has a video embedded showing scenes from the accident. The Police Officer involved in the collision has been taken to a nearby hospital. To view the video, click here.

Update: Here are some additional videos from YouTube

First and foremost, a speedy recovery to the driver; as bad as the accident with the extra was, the idea of a police officer being injured in the line of duty because of a movie seems a bit worse in principle, even if it's (hopefully) nothing long-term in this case.

Secondly...think the footage might actually make its way into Dark of the Moon, or would that be too much of a legal headache regardless of the outcome for the cop? They could just give Bee that battle damage in robot mode...

Thirdly, any word on whether there really was a bomb?

Wonder how many kittens Bay had over that one!

Wait, so it was a closed set with a barricade and everything and they went around it?

Yeesh... hope everyone was ok, but even our ambulances and police here still crawl through intersections and such.

If it were actual movie footage, that could have made an excellent alt mode/re-introduction of Barricade. Unfortunately, it wasn't. :(

As a police officer, he gets to do that. This footage proves just how bad a director Michael Bay is. If he'd have taken his head out of his ass and realized that the officer was not part of the shot, he could have stopped the scene and avoided the accident. Good job Mike. Way to endanger lives.

Wow the Bay hate is strong with this one.

The cop comes out of no where and the cars/drivers did their best to slow down to avoid the hit.

The cop was driving down the oncoming traffic side of the road as well and actually swerved out of the way to avoid prime and the others when it hit the camaro.

Emergency officials still have to slow at intersections and make sure it is safe to cross, they cant just tear thru a busy crosswy.

Another Angle, you dont see the hit tho.

Yeah, with that close range, if Optimus made the sudden stop, I don't think Ironhide, Ratchet, and Sideswipe will survive. Good thing is only Bumblebee, though. And hope everybody is okay.

Do we need to go down this path with everything that's even remotely movie related? Come on, man. Car wreaks happen, people do random things and you can't prepare for every possible contingency and outcome.

Exactly. Besides, if it was anyone's fault, it was the driver of the cop SUV's. If he had tried not to be such a hot dog and look where he was going, this could have been avoided. Maybe now that he's laid up in a hospital, he will have time to rethink his driving strategy.

Thank you! This was not Bay's fault. I hate to point fingers but this was unfortunately the cop's fault. He did not yield for traffic, which he is required to do when approaching an intersection. He failed to do that and unfortunately risked his life. Although I can understand what pressure he could have been under in the event of the bomb scare.

Stop. Just stop.

If you watched the video and still came to that conclusion, then you're clearly unreachable and being stubborn simply to do so.

Until this film, Michael Bay has had an incredible track record when it comes to filming safety. Close calls, yes, but people came out unscathed. This movie is the first time he's ever had a serious problem.

You should be ashamed of yourself, you're using this cop's misfortune as a means to let your opinion run rampant. You don't like Bay? Fine. Keep it to yourself. That's not what this thread is about. If you want to dog him out, open another thread or something, this is not the place.

Oh, and it's the cop's fault. He ran into that scene like a crazy person and caused a wreck. I hope he's doing well and makes a full recovery, of course, but it's still his fault. Where were his sirens? Why didn't anyone in law enforcement contact the set and say there was a bomb threat and that they have an officer en route? Bay works with cops, military, etc, and has a close relationship with them. He respects them, he puts them on pedestals, and he most certainly would've shut down the production for the day to let the police do their job.

This accident did several things:

1.) Injured a cop. (Again, I hope he's doing well and makes it!)

2.) Wrecked a police vehicle. (Which I'm sure the taxpayers will have to foot the bill for.)

3.) Wrecked a studio prop. (Bumblebee, in this form, was made specifically for the production and is not a production model from GM. I can't even imagine the price tag.)

4.) Put the other stunt drivers, and pedestrians watching, in danger.

All they had to do was tell them that a cop was on his way, responding to a bomb threat. They'd have given him full access without incident. Instead, he barreled through the scene, caused an accident that could've been catastrophic, and caused possibly millions in damage.

None of that is Bay's fault.

Your post is full of fail sir. Good day.

Firstly, best wishes from over here in Blighty to the injured party, here's hoping they get well soon.

On a lighter note, Michael Bay should take all this misfortune as an omen and push the film back a year. That way, us Brits might get end of the Generations line before the toy shelves clog with TF3 crap...

I've seen worse motor vehicle accidents, being on the local volunteer rescue squad. Glad everyone is OK, except for Bumblebee!

Those stunt drivers are pretty good for doing what they did. Good eyes.

It sure looked like the cop was hot dogging it though, but who knows? Maybe the cop didn't know an intersection was there or didn't look well enough. Ah well.

Good to know a cop getting hospitalized is fun for you.

Having watched that video several times...it's not Bay's fault. And I really, really hate to say it but it's not the cop's fault either. The guy driving Bumblebee should have heard the sirens and slowed down. Emergency vehicles have right of way when their sirens are on.

With the amount of law enforcement and military thats portrayed in the films he may have thought it was on set noise, or even the hummer's sirens by mistake.

The article i read said the cop chose to go that route because it was on of the quicker ways to go and d.c. traffic laws allow it.

It was more of a communication breakdown between law enforcement officials on set and the ones on duty than anything imo

That's enough from the insensitive and inappropriate Bay-bashers. This was a live filming, bomb scare was involved, real people were involved in a car accident that they were very fortunate to walk away from, way too many things going on, and guess what? Accidents happen. I bet you've been in an accident at some point in your life and/or know someone who has. Allstate's statistics for Chicago state that each insured person gets in an accident once per 7 years on average. It's going to happen at some point. Shit happens. Fortunately, the PEOPLE involved were able to walk away with minor injuries.

Bay-bashing is inappropriate in this topic. If you want to Bay-bash, go start your own topic and say what you have to say, but leave it out of this topic. Continued off-topic, inappropriate and insensitive Bay-bashing will not be tolerated any further in THIS topic. It does NOT have a place in this topic.

Heh. Bumblebee is down, but not out. I wouldn't be surprised if they were already figuring out costs for a replacement.

Maybe they can do what they did for the original Bumblebee. Use another car as the base and have the body shell fabricated.

I'm sure they could adapt another Camaro to fill the void this one has created.

they have a minimum of 4 cars available at all times for movies like this. usually 2 hero cars and 2 or more gutted stunt vehicles. Thats why you see 2 primes everyonce in a while and 3 ironhides.

Wait hold on a sec, so your telling me if a cop comes across a barricade hes just goes around it instead of maybe asking someone there "why is this here?". What if there was a building being demolished with explosives or the roads was a huge hole on the road? And shouldnt there have been guards or some kind of security at the barricade to direct people? There seems to have been stupidity & halfassedness (is that a word? it should be) on every ones part in this indecent. And we all know Bays going to find a way to work this into the film. Could all these "incidents" be a sign from a higher power telling every one "stop making these movies"?

The Bumblebee featured in this film is a complete redesign and is not a production model. The movie Bumblebee has been streamlined and parts of it have a significant change from the production model design.

Going to the local dealership ain't gonna cut it.

Megatron Wolf wrote:Wait hold on a sec, so your telling me if a cop comes across a barricade hes just goes around it instead of maybe asking someone there "why is this here?".

Cops can drive through a barricade. It's obviously not always the best course of action, as evidenced here, but they can.

Megatron Wolf wrote:What if there was a building being demolished with explosives or the roads was a huge hole on the road?

That's one of the problems here. Bay's crew and the production company tell the public where they'll be filming and whether or not a road is closed down, etc. If the cops pay no mind to that notice, then isn't it on them?

Megatron Wolf wrote:And shouldnt there have been guards or some kind of security at the barricade to direct people?

Here's the problem... You don't know that there wasn't security. You're assuming. Most likely there was security and the cop went past it. If that's the case, then it's completely on him. (And it looks as though that is the case.)

Megatron Wolf wrote:There seems to have been stupidity & halfassedness (is that a word? it should be) on every ones part in this indecent.

No. The only halfassedness and stupidity on show here is that of the cop. The police should've contacted the set and stated that a cop was coming their way to deal with a bomb threat. Bay would've ended filming right then and there and cleared a path for the officer. Again, Bay and the police and the military are tight. He respects them, he does not impede their efforts.

Megatron Wolf wrote:And we all know Bays going to find a way to work this into the film. Could all these "incidents" be a sign from a higher power telling every one "stop making these movies"?

Stop it. Just stop. Bay would not work a tragedy into the film. If you're talking about Shia's hand injury being in ROTF, they had his blessing to add it, plus it would've been impossible to hide the fact that his hand was broken and wrapped for most of the second half of the film.

This and Cedillo accident will not make it to screen. Even Bay's not that low.

A higher power telling them to stop making these movies? Seriously? Wow. Reaching with that one, aren't you?

Oh, and did you miss this part?
Seibertron wrote:That's enough from the insensitive and inappropriate Bay-bashers.

It does NOT have a place in this topic.

Cut it out.

How do you know Michael Bay was even there? These scenes were probably directed by the secondary or even the third unit and crew... not Michael Bay. Pretty faulty logic to assume that Michael Bay is going to direct every single scene of the movie.

Could all these "incidents" be a sign from a higher power telling every one "stop making these movies"?

You mean like the government!? I mean it was a poliece car right! They keep paying people to get hurt on the set so they'll stop! It makes perfect sense! Because I seriously doubt God gives a damn what Bay does with a movie. If anything hes probobly trying to get people to start appreciating the movies for what they are instead of bashing the shit out of it because some people are too closed minded or incoherent to think for themselves, instead of listening to a critic and reciting every damn word they say, word for f*cking word.

You do realize that your post is now just as stupid as the one in question right? #-o

The cop and the driver will be fine, I've been in worse accidents.

(not ones I've caused btw, just as a passenger)

the funny side of all this I've never been in a car accident I came close when my mom's ex boyfriend or the Douchebag as I call him hit an owl but it still wasn'[t an accident there was no damage to the truck and the poor owl survived

Sky-Quake,

an owl??? Seriously? What the hell?.... Almost sounds like an omen. :P

Nah, the cops neck might hurt a little from snapping sideways, but he's gotta be fine. Actually Bee's driver got the worst of it if he got a face full of air bag. Those things can hurt you bad if you're too close to the wheel. The powder they're covered in supposedly isn't good to breath or handle either.

I was in an accident once where all my fries got dumped on the floor and I was so bummed. Only half my pop spilled, but I was really enjoying those fries. :p Didn't care about the crash.

What the slag is up with all the Michael Bay hatred. It was an accident. These type of things happen in films all the time. Besides, I'm looking forward to seeing TF3. I love the first two films because of their heart-pounding action scenes, interesting characters (both human and Cybertronian), story, plots, and respect to the sorce material, and I have full faith that Mr. Bay and company will, at the end, present the world a great film.
