Man, Takara sure screwed a lot of people over releasing their mediocre Encore version first, only to be followed by the superior version. To me, the regular Encore Devastator was lacklustre: mostly due to the fact I have an original G1. However, I'd certainly have bought the previous Encore if I didn't have the OG1: and I would have been royally pissed off seeing this more interesting version come so soon after that one.

Though it seems kind of redundant now with all the 3rd party upgrade kits out there that also seem to achieve better results.

To be frank, what's easier? Editing animation, or retooling the mold of a toy that was released in Japan a couple years prior?
I'm not really feeling the visor, plus I'm a stickler for toy-accuracy.

Well, aside from more articulation, show-accurate designs and sizes, but that's what newer toys are for.

I do like the other changes, though. The head looks ugly in the line up at the bottom, but once in place on the combined form itself, looks fantastic. How odd.

That's how they were in the show. The original toys always looked too "minty" to me, whereas the show colors looked more "lemon lime" like theseRAcast wrote:What's up with that weird yellow-green?

If you say so. This release does NOT look "Constructicon" green to me at ALL.

It at least resembles the green they had in the 1986 movie.RAcast wrote:If you say so. This release does NOT look "Constructicon" green to me at ALL.
That might be where they drew inspiration for this shade of green, if it turns out that the cartoon had a darker green after all.

I already have the encore and see this as an instead of, not an as well as. Not many G1 toys are show accurate anyway, so he'd look out of place... Nice concept tho'.

However, many of the Encore toys were redecoed to look show-accurate, so he'd fit in with those.Pretender Skywarp wrote:Not many G1 toys are show accurate anyway, so he'd look out of place... Nice concept tho'.
