Amazon Japan gives us the first look at MP-13 Masterpiece Soundwave and Laserbeak and MP-14 Masterpiece Red Alert. Unlike yesterday's news of color images of MP-12 Sideswipe these are just unpainted protoytypes but is a nice first look. Perhaps we will get to see more of this duo at the Tokyo Toy Show starting today. The Soundwave listing also hints that more MP cassetticons are forthcoming, as he can hold up to three cassettes. Edit: Is it just me or does it look like he has that video camera in his head like in Transformers the Movie?

As a side note, I really don't understand the attitude towards the smaller scale. We get it cheaper, it displays better, and it allows for more than one MP to come out every two years.

It does indeed look like there will be no add-on's.

After seeing all of these leaked pictures, I am even more happy that I did.
I was worried that these might not be proper G1 representations. These pics have cured my worries, and these figures look awesome.
I can't wait until I have these in hand!!!
Bravo Takara! Keep the good stuff coming.

You can see how the laser fold down in the pics, kinda cool. Though he could use some better feet^^

Autobot Cheetor wrote:Honestly, Acoustic Wave looked like someone just gave articulation to the G1 figure. I don't buy third party figures but if I did I would want a little more originality than that.
Are you serious? this is what Acoustic Wave looked like. I am not seeing an articulated G1 toy there. To be honest the TT one is more of an Articulated G1 toy.
I really wish the official product had a bit more detailing in him, it looks too plain for the Masterpiece line. Look how much detailing went into MP-10. Oh well, I'm just glad that we are getting an official Soundwave. Laserbeak sells me on the TT product of course. I want a Buzzsaw, Ravage and Frumble next please. Do it like your Encore line and release a pack of tapes.

The original G1 toy was pretty cartoon accurate. I don't know what else they could've added. Was there something in particular you were hoping they did.
I love Laserbeak (I think his head must contain a little camera like on the show since there's a slot there). If they really wanted to blow people away, the next masterpiece should just be a collection of Soundwave's tapes.

I bet this Soundwave will be as big as the last Prime release. Kinda sucks for me as i prefer MP01 scale with Alternators, so this one would be too small to fit in. Grimlock i could use for Classics, but Soundwave here would be just too big.
About price, i don't see these being cheaper than MP01 and other first Master Pieces. More/less releases in the MP series is not really a matter of scale, the engineering done and the amount of work going into a figure is probably the same whether it be, for example, a 10 or a 14" figure.

I have to agree with you on that. And when they release the packs, do not mix Autobots and Decepticons^^

Yeah, the lazerbeak with the integrated booster seems more of an engineering feat than the soundwave itself.
The G1 toy was pretty show accurate so yeah, they probably could not do much. Somehow it seems abit wide in tape deck mode when compared to the orginal G1 one.

However, it looks like most of the detailing went into the back, while leaving his front kinda naked.
Oh man, Laserbeak looks amazing too. He almost looks like he would transform into his pre-earth mode too.

All of these look really nice. Soundwave looks like an articulated G1 model because that's what the line is becoming. His hip articulation mirrors his leg transformation in his G1 counterpart.

Before you call me spoiled did you notice I said I already bought and paid for Soundwave? I have an opinion on something I purchased and I voiced it. I like Laserbeak I just feel they could have done much more with Soundwave. If the third party product never existed I'm sure I would be as giddy as Quagmire in a brothel but it did exist and that was the kind of detail I would expect from something under the Masterpiece brand.

I also missed the news that Soundwave can hold up to 3 cassettes in his chest cavity. Please let that be an indication that there will be at least a Masterpiece cassette 2 pack soon.
Thanks to the larger images, I was happy to realise that Laserbeak does indeed have his weapons incorporated into the tape mode. Major kudos to TakaraTomy on that.

Totally negates any need for those 3rd party toys. They did have a bit more detail, but that's no big deal. This is everything I want Soundwave to be. I love the fact that he can press eject! Laserbeak is also an amazing feat of engineering. I really hope they do a cassette pack, if only for Ravage. Frumble would be cool too, though I prefer the red one. Also, nice, pressable buttons! And...is that a headphone jack?
Man, MPs are getting more and more amazing... It's going to be super hard to pass this up due to the release date. The holidays just aren't a good time for me to be buying $100+ toys. But if my girlfriend can work a little Christmas magic...I would be a very happy TF fan.
lol, almost forgot about Red Alert. Looks nice, but I don't collect the character and am not about to start now. He does have the clear windows I wish Sideswipe had though. Don't know if others have noticed, but he has remolded shoulders too, in addition to the head and light bar.

Any idea if Hasbro will release its version of MP Soundwave? I'm not too fond of paying the Takara price plus the import/international shipping.

Totally agreed.
Man this Soundwave looks fantastic. I haven't been this excited by a MP figure since Grimlock, or maybe even since MP-01. And holy testicles does that Laserbeak look glorious!
The cassettes are one of my favourite concepts from the G1 toyline, I love all their designs. With the MP line I know I am going to have to collect every cassette that comes out - but I fear this will mean having to by several versions of the toy, which I'm definitely not keen on. Fingers crossed that all the cassettes we would want are sold separately.

"Colour superior, grey in grey inferior!"
Yes, we have out first colour picture of MP Soundwave, Laserbeak, and the accessories that will be included!
- Megatron Gun
- Alternate tape deck
- Empty Energon cube
- Cassette case
- Small chrome part (this could be the electronic shocker he used a few times in the cartoon, like for reactivating Skyfire)
But that's not all!
The picture also reveals three more cassettes, two are new molds!
- Buzz Saw
- Ravage
- Rumble/Frenzy mold
As you can see from the watermark, it's from TFClub.com's weiboo blog.

The colours look really good, well from what I can make out here. I love that he comes with Megatron, anybody have any idea what the small chrome part is? Could it be a tiny version of himself in a holster?
Posted by Gauntlet101010 on June 14th, 2012 @ 1:20pm CDT
I have a whole cassette collection thing going on, so these being backwards compatable is a thing for me.
Posted by Marcdachamp on June 14th, 2012 @ 1:21pm CDT
As good as that looked in grey, it's 100x better in color. Want. Want. Want!
Posted by RoboSnuf on June 14th, 2012 @ 1:21pm CDT
MP13 - Soundwave and Laserbeak
MP14 - Red Alert
MP15 - Buzzsaw, Ratbat, Rumble, Frenzy (Minion army)
MP16 - Soundblaster and Ravage
Here's hoping the eventual Hasbro release of SW includes all the tapes -and- comes in cheaper!

I wonder if that little yellow-rimmed tray next to it is also an accessory of some kind?

Megatron Wolf wrote:please dont be expensive, i really want one but im not willing to pay $100 or more for one. Id just say id wait til hasbro does one but theres no guarantee that they will and if they do who knows what the price will be, itll either be over priced like Grimlock & all their current stuff or priced ok like Skywarp & HotRod were.
BBTS shows it to be pretty pricey.
Still, Prime's coming out WITH his trailer. This may very well see our shores if you can stand the wait.

Yes, it's the alternate tape deck slot for his chest.
