Thanks to eBay member lena81822, (in)famous for getting a hold of Transformers figures well before their release date, we have a preview of a repaint of Generations IDW Megatron. This isn't your standard repaint however, for this Megatron is the first ever Transformers figure to apparently come with a football as an accessory, and contains the Nike Swoosh trademark symbol on his "shoes." There's also an as-of-yet unidentified signature on the front right-side of Megatron's jet mode

Very little is known about where or how this figure will be released, but given its obvious football stylings, is it related to Calvin Johnson, the Detroit Lions wide receiver who has been given the nickname Megatron? Time will tell.

I the meantime, check out the auction and all its images here.

I did a google on Calvin Johnson's signature and sure enough it looks the same as the one on Megatron's chest.

It wouldn't surprise me if this ended up being a souvenir offered only at the Lions' stadium or its online store. I honestly can't imagine a retail chain carrying an exclusive this esoteric.

It does bear a certain similarity doesn't it?

being from Michigan and a Lions fan myself...if this is a "Megatron" Megatron...why the hell is it purple and not blue/white/silver??? I can't see it making ANY sense to be Purple like that if it's Lions related or will be sold at games.

in a different story...Nike and Calvin Johnson are teaming together to make the "CJ81 COLLECTION INSPIRED BY MEGATRON" which if you look at some of the pictures, especially the shoes, it has the grid pattern on it like the toy.

Agreed should be mostly silver with blue highlights and maybe Calvin Johnson's head as a head sculpt I would paint the face silver though to keep it can't stand human color faces on TF toys! I'm looking at you Botcon 2012 Metalhawk

I guess the toy is based on the shoes, it has a similar purple to them and, well if you look at the feet, they have the Nike symbol.

This looks kinda cool, sure it means nothing to me, but I like the colour and the football is kinda awesome.

I like it, I like the grid pattern though perhaps it should fade out towards the edges.

Funny shape football though :)

it's a shame it's not lions colors.. but then again.. who knows how long he'd play for them.

also.. it'd be more neat had he been painted with more of a football uniform motif.. either way, i think it's pretty cool.

Galvatron, and with the translucent wings/ weapon with the grid it kinda even gives the illusion of the awesome Galvatron creation scene from the Movie.

I think I kinda like this version of the mold, the colours pop, it's weird and it wears Nike shoes.

Which Galvatron?

I've amended my post to be more specific. This purple and gray deco honestly reminds me of the deco of an existing figure.

Someone on another site suggested Cybertron Skywarp, which I do see a resemblance in, but there might be something else I'm trying to remember.

G1 cartoon Galvatron, otherwise I wouldn't have brought up his creation from the movie.

It's also somewhat similar to the cartoon accurate Universe and RTS repaints of Universe G1 Cyclonus.

Maybe they went with purple instead of Lions colors because this is a "NIKE Calvin Johnson Megatron", not a "Detroit Lions Calvin Johnson Megatron". Maybe Nike made a deal with Hasbro and the Lions organization wasn't involved, so maybe they can't use the Lions colors for legal or financial reasons.

Whatever the reason, I kind of want it.

I'm no fan of football (or sports in general), but if this is available in general retail, then I'd probably pick this up over the regular release.

Timelines Machine Wars Skywarp? The effect on Megatron's wings vaguely remind me of the warping effect on Skywarp's wings.

Neat! My brother is a huge sports nut and "Megatron" has become a sort of inside joke between us (look at what he got me last Christmas, haha!), so I'm sure he'd get a kick out of it.

Well, I was specifically referring to toys, not animation models.

He's white with red black and yellow (and a tiny bit of purple).

This Megatron is purple with gray.

Energon Galvatron perhaps (US, not SL Galvatron General)? Or that clear e-Hobby Galvatron? Or maybe even the current BotCon 2013 Hotlink.

Wow, usually it's Takara doing the really out-there releases, but Hasbro wins this time. Looks pretty cool. I'm sure it will be some sort of exclusive.

Hotlink seems a good fit, but I feel I've seen this color scheme much sooner than this year.

Cybertron Skywarp was a good guess, but I can't help but feel that's not it.

Is there another Galvatron or Cyclonus toy out there that is predominately purple and gray? (I say "Galvatron or Cyclonus" as that's why my gut is telling me)

The one coming remotely close to that exact shade of purple would have to be the clear Cyclonus from that United 3-pack. Purple is such a hard color to get right...

Might not have to be an exact shade match (after all, both Cyb Skywarp and MW Hotlink are good candidates despite not being perfect matches), but I don't think the United clear Cyclonus had much gray on him.

*EDIT* OUCH! What did that realisation have to hurt so hard? Anyhow, found another, obscure possibility: Micron Legend Shockwave

if this does in fact deal with Calvin Johnson then why is it purple? Unless hes getting traded to the ravens or vikings or changing his name to galvatron this makes no sense.

There's speculation on TFW that its a Nike toy so it matches the shoes.

I may be a bit out of left field here, but Generations Blitzwing? The purples and greys match, but theres alot of other colors as well. Maybe Beast Hunters Shockwave? He's purple grey and red primarily. The original generations Cyclonus? No grid pattern anywere on any of those, but who knows.
The seibertron background with the grid pattern that was up a while ago? 8-}

Thanks to site sponsor Robotkingdom we have some additional images of the yet to be officially announced Nike redeco of the Generations IDW Stealth Bomber Deluxe Megatron. Earlier images from an eBay auction also included a football accessory sporting a Decepticon logo. The figure itself bears an autograph on it's right chest that appears to that of the Detroit Lions' Calvin Johnson who just so happens to have the nickname Megatron. We await further details on exactly what type of exclusive this will likely be and it's availability. Images mirrored below.

$200!!!!

Someone educate me: do Football and TFs go together? Natural synergy? >:oP

You'd think they'd at least put the guy's face in the helmet (and not Megatron face) - that'd be kind of neat. They make printable face-plates in Japan, and if this guy had a peg for a printable face, it'd at least have the option to be replaced by one's own face. :-? But I digress.

Anyone else curious as to how he earned the nickname "Megatron"? I mean, it's not like he pulled out a fusion cannon to help him blast past the defensive line and into the end zone.

I think one of his teammates actually coined his nickname. Probably said something like "You did it just like Megatron" or something :P

Maybe he loves Transformers and likes imitating their voices and catchphrases whenever he thinks he's alone.
So someone might have caught him while he was repeatedly saying "Fools, I am MEGATRON" while under the shower or something.

As for the toy itself, I love black decoes on toys, but I have to say this looks better to me than the original deco does.

Nike does know that the Lions' colors are silver and blue? 6"5' Calvin Johnson got the name from a teammate because in his all-silver Lions uniform he kind of looks and plays like a giant unstoppable silver robot, and the TF 2007 movie was big when Calvin Johnson was just blowing up the league.

So, why is Calvin Johnson Megatron purple?

Yes, the nickname was given by teammate Roy Williams way back when. It stuck with fans. CJ now has his own clothes through Nike, and one shirt features a very Decepticon like CJ symbol. Purple is a primary Decepticon color and some of CJ's products are in purple (in lots of colors not just Detroit Lions Honolulu Blue and silver).

Has nothing to do with a fusion cannon. He dominates. He's strong and basically as bad ass as Megatron (referring to movie Megs at the time).

Yep dominates like the first movie Megatron (2007) did. Calvin Johnson came out in 2007 when the Movie was still new and Transformers is all the craze. Not to be confused with ROTF and DOTM Megatrons where hes basically just a little bitch... =X

Still deciding if I should get one of these from ebay. The many auctions usually ends at $30-50 bucks shipped now, or wait for an official release. I think this is awesome and would love to support it. hmmm..
