ACToys has done it again, and again, and again. Consistently showing us pictures of soon to be released product before it is available at retail allowing consumers a good look at pieces that they may want to pre-order (or cancel pre-orders as the case may be).

Yesterday, it was Henkei Ramjet.

Today, it is Henkei Skyfire.

There are a few difference for you to take note of. First, the pimped out chrome booster thrusters (seems to be a common thread with the Transformers cool crowd as of late), the blue neck piece, and head details, and finally the different cockpit. Most of these and a few more details make it a bit more cartoon accurate than the CLASSICS Jetfire release.

Judge for yourself, and let us know what you think in the discussion below!

Dear Takara,

Please stop slapping chrome on your Transformers until you learn to put it in places where it makes sense.

Love and kisses,

The internet.

Damn.

I like it but it's not enough to buy it again. Hasbro! Do it right the first time. Takara is doing it better.

I dunno if I'd actually buy it just for the new head since I've already got classics Jetfire, but that is good...

I have to agree with the earlier mention of chrome placement - on the back thruster section is not very interesting. He also looks like he has clear missiles, I don't think the Classics version had clear - I'd have to dig mine out of storage.

Still this a great mold and I like how they treated it. Looks way better than the other repaints of him we'll see later this year.

Yeah! Chrome thrusters and a tiny canopy, just like the animation model had!

Oh wait...

Well, I have the 2007 BotCon Dreadwind, and he made me love the mold. I now want this and the upcoming "Treadshot" redeco.

How much is this going for?

Not bad, but I don't really like the chrome and the blue flap under his head. I'm happy with the Hasbro version I already have.

LOL!!!  :APPLAUSE:

Not enough to make me fall on this one, rather save some extra cash here for the Universe 2.0 figures, I feel that Takara's efforts to bring to Japan Classics line are a bit old fashioned... sorry!!

I must say I'm really liking the Henkei releases a lot better then Classics, which I actually passed on. Classics Skyfire was good, and I almost picked him up, but now i'm really thinking hard about getting this one, very nice.

Re: Henkei Skyfire--New Pictures Showing Details And Differences (744116)
Posted by Caelus on July 9th, 2008 @ 12:18am CDT

Wow, amazing how a few tweaks can make it look so much more like his animated incarnation.

Fortunately, Stormbringer Design > Animated Design.

And also, slap-dash chrome does nothing to sell the figure.

Actually, it occurs to me that IDW Comics in General > G1 Cartoon in General, so by extension...

An additional bonus is that the changed cockpit serves to further differentiate this guy from Universe Treadbolt if I decide to get the latter (still kind of undecided on that question).

hmm, now since i didn't pick up hasbros skyfire first time round i'm tempted to invest in takara's version. but then i missed classic grimlock too and you can get both of them in a double pack.....

after comparing pictures i think i prefer the detail on hasbros one plus the chrome is really off putting.

and thats the first i've head of the upcoming "Treadshot" redeco
anyone got any pics or info bout it?

Hasbro's is better.

Sorry.

Well, I'm not really sorry. I never [i:1coum8nf]really [/i:1coum8nf]am.

This toy was designed around the Stormbringer art for Sky/Jetfire. It wasn't meant to be geared towards the stand-in cartoon model of Bandai's robot we must not mention.

Just like with Ramjet, I'm glad I have the Hasbro version. I don't like the chrome on Skyfire, and I don't like that bit of blue, which reminds me of the Allspark Movie repaints.

1) Knock off the all caps.
2) Learn to spell.
3) I don't believe this is more cartoon accurate, and I wish people would stop throwing that term around whilst simultaneously wanking themselves to death over random chrome applications.

Nope, Stormbringer Jetfire was based of the toy design, well that's what Don said anyway.
I like it, I like that it's different from the Hasbro version, but to be honest, I like Hasbro's clear blue bullets better then these clear non color ones, plus wen did you ever see chromed thrusters?
And this isn't show accurate, it isn't at all show accurate, so stop saying that.

So they wasted paint to make the cockpit windscreen smaller? That's a bit foolish, they could have just retooled it.

And I'm not sold. It looks boring if you ask me. The only interesting part of it is the chrome, and that's got problems.

Are thrusters that look like they're made out of aluminum foil and a blue flap under the chin really worth extra bucks this will cost?

And, yes, the missiles are now clear instead of the original blue.

The Megatron and Astrotrain repaints made sense and were well-appreciated, but this just seems unnecessary.

You know, the more I look at the two, the more I realize Hasbro's is better, the chrome thrusters absolutely ruin the figure. I still like the Henkei cockpit though.

I am not sure how you can say that Takara's is not more accurate to the Animation than HASBRO's is. You can clearly see how the nose on the show is white as is Takara's and not Hasbro's, how Jetfire's torso/arms in the cartoon are white, with an Autobot symbol near the neck like Takara's where as Hasbro's mixes in the red and black.

The head is a bit of a wash, but I think Takara's might be a smidge better. Hasbro's is closer to the G1 toy model, the old Robotech version, but not the animated IMHO.

No need. A smidgen of paint is CLEARLY more expensive than sculpting a new piece and producing a new set of steel molds.

[/quote:lrh5yunj][/quote:lrh5yunj]
Thank you. I think it's pretty clear the paint job is (as with most of the Henkei figures thus far) MORE inspired by the animation models than the decos on the Hasbro versions. Whether this is a good or a bad thing depends on how it looks on a particular figure (I'm still not sold on Henkei Ramjet, for example).

There seems to be an unusual amount of hostility towards rating a Takara version better than a Hasbro version for this subline. Buyer remorse on the part of those who already own Classics versions and have to convince themselves the version they already own is superior perhaps?

Come to think of it, is there a single example of a Classics version that has a deco that is "more accurate to the animation" than a Henkei version (chrome additions aside)? I'm not thinking of one, though admittedly I have not yet scrutinized the differences between the two versions of Mirage and of Grimlock.

To summarize, while it's definitely possible to prefer a Classics deco to a Henkei deco, across the board Henkei decos are much closer to the G1 animation models than Classics decos, and denial of this seems preposterous.

Bringing things back to Jetfire, I see no reason to purchase the Classics version instead of the Henkei version unless you really want it RIGHT NOW unless you vastly prefer the Classics deco. It seems like aftermarket prices on Classics Jetfire are about the same as the standard US cost for a Henkei Jetfire, maybe even a little more expensive. (This seems to hold true across the entirety of the figures from Classics 1.0... the equation will be a bit different for Henkei versions vs. Universe versions, as there will be a substantial price difference.)

I'm not sure I like the chrome on the boosters, but I took care of this by purchasing a loose set of boosters for the Classics version on eBay.

If I already owned Classics Jetfire I'm not sure I would be getting the Henkei version, but I don't, so Henkei it is.
