We've known that this has been coming for years.
Since the Heavy Metal Warriors first faced off against each other back in 2003 we have seen HMW grow and develop into the wargame we all know and love to hate, but we also knew its time was running out and a new world would one day take its place.
Then, a month ago, this was released: The first teaser for HMW2.
The first peek into a whole new world and whet the appetite for what was to come.
Now, thanks to Omega Sentinel, we can get our next insight in to how some aspects of the future of Heavy Metal War will change.
Concentrating on the new dual-wield weapon systems and introducing the concept of 'Spark Points' to your transformations, the programmer who has taken Heavy Metal War and made it just that little bit more Heavy presents...
Alts and Ammo! The second trailer for Heavy Metal War II
Sorry the quality is kind of bad. Best I could do with a short amount of time.
There ya go folks, the words of a genius.

the spark points thing is interesting. i was guessing spark points was going to be like mp for using tactics rather than for transforming. if i saw correctly, it takes 35 points for the solstice to transform. assuming we start with a hundred that's not many transformations. so based on that i have 2 overall questions.
1) i can see we now have a hp system that can go over 100 hp. will we also be able to increase our maximum spark points?
2) once we transform to an alt mode, how long do we stay in in that state? just for the duration of use of the alts special ability? what happens if the special ability doesn't fire?
thanks for all the hard work you're putting into this OS!
*edit* also very excited with idea of dual wielding weapons!

I'm with Original Sin on the Spark Points. They sound a little iffy right now, but hopefully there is a good way of managing them for when in battle.
Overall though, that teaser trailer, makes me want this game to come out this weekend or sooner.

There's a lot of stuff that hints at origins in D&D like or some deaper hack&slash RPG's like the advantages and drawbacks of two handed weapons feels very dungeon sieg"y". Good work!

Sounds pretty cool and I am very excited for the opening day. These new features wont take more time will they? I like this game because I can play while I am at work but I wouldn't have time for the game if HMW2 requires much more of it. I like how I can just throw guys in missions and forget about it.

Cool, can't wait!
I was curious at what rate we would get our spark points back.
Question- What determines range? Is there a gameboard that the pieces move across or is it an abstract of [back line] - [front line] vs [front line] - [back line]?

I've seen a lot of what OS is planning and i've been iffy towards a lot of it, but once you see it in action all iffyness is quickly forgotten.
Hence why I spent half my weekend playing the damn game .... oh and then there's the logging on before and after work trying to play as much as possible.
Stupid addiction.

Most of my tf toys are left handed (where possible) as I am left handed. Can I equip a weapon to the left hand if I only have one, or can you only equipe your second weapon to the left hand?

I assume this will mean a reset (for everyone) once HMW2 is started?
Not that I mind, wouldn't be the first time I lost a top 10 position, I'll gain it back
Anyway, my original meaning to post was to ask the question: Any estimate on when we might actually get to see HMW2 implemented?
And if Burn and friends need any bots to help beta test HMW2, I'm always available..

If you want to dump players into missions and go to work you can continue to do so. The goal with the game is to offer depth while allowing the simpler game to be played for those that choose it. So far that seems to be coming together nicely.Kickyourassacons wrote:Sounds pretty cool and I am very excited for the opening day. These new features wont take more time will they? Thank you for thinking of these aspects, that shows again how much thought you've put into this. Kudos.

I must say, this look pretty damn cool. I'm a little confused about how stuff works, but I'm always confused about stuff, especially when it comes to starting new games like this
But it looks as if I can figure stuff out quickly on the fly (experimentation/trial and error). I'm eager to see the new weapons system myself, and the altmode system looks interesting to me too.
Awesome work, OS! Can't wait for this to come out!

Looking great so far. With all the times V2 has been 'just around the corner', I was fairly cynical about this attempt going anywhere...but this trailer's convinced me that this is for real and the new game is going to be very impressive. May is a long way off, but I can't wait to give V2 a shot.

Are you sure...?
The whole thing gives me an overall "meh" feeling. It's like the original game, but with more numbers. I don't necessarily construe that as an improvement.
There's something about alt modes and spark points that just seem totally counter-intuitive to me. First, that transforming from a robot warrior into a slowly accelerating, difficult-to-maneuver Earth vehicle (aka a semi-truck) has any advantage at all doesn't make sense. This is a limitation on the gameplay itself I think, as it reserves itself almost entirely to combat, so aspects of alt modes that would be beneficial outside of combat are either not going to make sense or are going to be omitted.
Second, there's never been any inherent cost to a transformation other than the time to do it and perhaps some exertion comparable maybe to walking up a short flight of stairs. In the lore, transforming was actually a method of conserving energy; not expending it.
It sounds like Spark Points are going to be used like "Mana Points," or "Magic Points," or "Action Points," or whatever tub-o-resource the game uses. Can't say I'm excited about this. I was disappointed in HMW1 that alt modes did nothing aside from random special attacks. Spark Points say to me that alt modes are just going to be represented by "So-and-so transforms into a whats-it and does a special attack!" Except now there's an MP cost.
I always wanted to see my transformers transform and... well, stay that way. If you have a strategic advantage as a fighter jet strafing the battlefield (no, not that strafing), why would you bother with robot mode? I feel like there's a lot of design space missing.

Spark points do not inhibit play. You can ironbot in the new game, you will just have to do it without your alt modes if you decide not to let your spark rest.

Will there be an area where you could check your indepth stats on your individual characters? Similar to what the "XP Games" are but have it done automatically. I really like to see how my guys are doing but it happens once a week and the VERY generous Fearless Echoes pulls the work. I feel guilty asking for the breakdowns. It would be cool if the game did all this work instead of a single individual. Maybe even count the hours the person is playing. To see if your team is performing really well or are you crunching in the time to make up for the poor performance.

So...I grab the quiver with my fore and middle finger and my thumb...aim at the target and...*arrow hits Wheelie in the right optic servo* Whoops. I am sure though that when HMW2 releases you will have another opportunity to create a stats tracker of some sort. I am still amazed that you can keep track of all of us and post our scores every week
I didn't want to replace you, I just thought this was turning out to be a burden. But my thoughts were wrong as you enjoy this task.

Is this worth breaking my recent bout of silence? I reckon so! Good work OS, can't wait to see the thing up and running!
This might be an inappropriate thing to ask, but what will happen in terms of balencing the factions, will it be a similar situation to what we have now, with the numbers allowed in missions?

Mission structure is totally different so the number of players will have less of an effect.

The game will have built in functions to make each side playable and missions will be different. On top of that, missions will only be a part of what you can do.

I've said this for a long time...Balance is the fault of a game, not the players.Starlock wrote:neliz wrote:Hollow One wrote:This might be an inappropriate thing to ask, but what will happen in terms of balencing the factions, will it be a similar situation to what we have now, with the numbers allowed in missions?

Look'n good OS....can't frig'n wait to actually play it!
I'm diggin pretty much everything your doing with V2.0, it looks like it will be much more open to customizing your Transformers which will be great
After seeing the teaser and now the trailer I've got a bazzillion questions running through my head...but I'm sure they will be answered in due time

My question is in regards to weapon wielding. What benefit is there to wielding only one weapon? Obviously wielding 2 gives you more attacks, and wielding a 2-hander may potentially give more damage. This is typically how it should work anyways. So why would I NOT want to dual or 2-H wield?
BTW, I had pretty much quit playing HMW for the typical reasons of not really standing a chance w/ there being an overpowering of Decepticons versus Autobots. But this has got me excited.

Each indivdual shot will cost you energon, which will be scarce. You wouldn't want to blow it all on bullets if you'll need it to cover your CR costs.

Will there be a repair tactic? and if so will there be a xp gain for the % you repair, like ram? Its hard to to get people to want to have a repair character because he doesn't produce much xp. This would create a "Team" battle and not individual performance.

It would create "classes" much like any rpg, with ranged attackers, close combat, medics, maybe "stealthy/sneak" etc. but implementation of that should be beneficial on a level beyond what it is now. with experience being able to increase your proficiency with said tactic automatically instead of you dumping points in it..
