Lead designer for Transformers Animated Derrick Wyatt, has updated his blog A Delightful Tedium with even more Design Sketches from his Animated notebook.

This time the chins have taken center stage, with Derrick promising:
Fear not Transfandom, I have heard your desperate pleas! I know the recent batch of leaked designs have all had shockingly, Earth and Cybertron shatteringly minuscule chins. But please do not despair! As we speak, I am working 'round the clock to develop new bigger, bolder, more powerful chins.

These new chins will be so bizarre and enormous they could actually impede the transformation process. Chins so massive, they have to be seen to be believed.

These new chins could even be so unstoppably huge and heroic, they may have even the simplest of Cybertronians bellowing out the names of common Earthen table utensils.

This is disappointingly lacking in Bruce Campbell.

That was what I was thinking :) It's time to take Transformers to the next level - headmasters, targetmasters and powermasters have been done... but ChinMasters... think of the potential!

HAHAHAHA.

HAD to be an Orbots fan, HAD to.

Here's Tor...

And here's Crunch... I even remember animators sometimes drawing his chin all water-droplet looking like that during frames of dynamic movement lol.

That's the first thing I saw when I saw Bulkhead the first time. Thank goodness they didn't have him eat metal and rocks for energy too lol.

Thus the true secret of Sari is revealed as Sumdac reversed engineered her from Ohno.

Ew... and both Sari and Ohno have that same cute button nose, too.

I'd say Prowl has a chin like Bort, but let's not get too crazy now.
;;)

Well, if there is any extreme inspiration taking place, let it be derivative from Mighty Orbots. Those Nelvana animators had some sweet character designs. I think they also did "Galaxy High", which was one of those other pseudo-anime Saturday morning cartoons that didn't blow from around that time.

Those chins are enough to make Jay Leno freak out.

Also: The second picture, in the upper right: disgruntled looking one and the star shaped thing look like they should be in Ben 10. Makes sense tho...same guy.

So what...

Prime is the torso, BB and Ratchet the arms, Prowl and BH the legs, we already know that Orbots has the whole size/mass shift thing down already so we just need a control car for Sari to sit in and activate the merge with her key.

Call it Grand Optimal Optimus and script it entirely with Peter Cullen's Ramrod VO from Saber Rider for extra 80's goodness.
