OMG, everyone, you are willing to pay for this old terrible transformer to get a diecast camera? That's a special kind of stupid. All this is is a way to tempt people to buy official, not third party. TakaraTomy, if you want me to buy Masterpiece Megatron, get the v2 Megatron out. A simple concept pic would stop your customers leaving you for the X-Transbots product.

Oh man, that sounds so BOSS!
Oh and does anyone know what MP 05 was selling originally when it first came out (including import premium at US retail) ?

no one said they were buying this for the camera. its a bonus. MP05 might be terrible in your opinion. and show of hands, who said getting this gold megs fulfills their needs and doesnt want a V2?Trikeboy wrote:OMG, everyone, you are willing to pay for this old terrible transformer to get a diecast camera? Just curious, as an MP completionist, do you get both the Hasbro and Takara versions. Like Soundwave for instance, with his different coloured visors.
Also, I didnt realize the camera was Die Cast, thats great!

Also the die-cast Reflector is an awesome pack-in bonus and if it ever came out separately I'd buy it. For some reason I always loved Reflector even though I though "applianceformers" were daft. The guy needs more love.

i dont really buy the hasbro MP's unless theyre different (enough) from the takara version, or completely different/new like acid storm. and theres still a handful of MP's im missing. like the dead MP01 and ghost MP03.william-james88 wrote:Just curious, as an MP completionist, do you get both the Hasbro and Takara versions. I have MP 03 Ghost and he is so very fragile with that plastic that I ended up breaking his arm soon after I got him. He still rocks in Jet mode and looks phenominal with that plastic so it's not a total loss. But fair warning, this fagil figure becomes even more fragile.

I'm a 'post-MP08 completionist'.
I pick up absolutely everything MP-related that Hasbro and Takara put out, and if it's an MP10 mold or later, I do so in doubles.
Right now that only thing I'm missing is that Bathing Ape MP10... I want it so bad...
Posted by Trikeboy on October 31st, 2014 @ 5:04pm CDT
You really can tell that the MP-05 mold was rushed out of the door. Why they didn't allow more time for the design? I'm an MP collector too but I only buy repaints that are different characters. Special colours or transparent plastic versions aren't worth the cash that can be spent on other, new characters.

That green MP-10 is indeed great looking. However, that 1000$ price thag gave me a heart attack!
Also, Will, about MP-03G being fragile, you were either unlucky or clumsy. I transformed mine at least 10 times back and forth and he never broke. No stress marks either. Because you paid yours for so cheap because he was pre-owned, maybe the previous owner IS the clumsy one and he "pre-broke" that arm for you.

I am not that clumsy. I am sure it was loosened by the previous owner. Case in point, my MP Megatron was new and I transformed him a bunch of times, without the instructions and he is still standing strong, as the picture below will show.
Oh, and to the guy who pointed out all the factual flaws (though some are opinions, like the point of view on the legs for instance), can you really tell me this doesn't look awesome?
I f**ken love MP 05!

Yes, it doesn't look awesome. Someone get the leader of the Decepticons a Thigh Master.

The fact that I still don't have a MP-05 is not really a price issue. It's mainly that for the ammount it cost, there is way too much expensive TFs that I want instead.

Optimus Prime is ok but the sheer number of them is ridiculous. As someone that is not a fan of white Optimus as Ultra Magnus, you can probably guess my feelings about MP-02. Starscream, and by extension Skywarp and Thundercracker were looking so good until they added those waist pieces to look like scabbards. They themselves know that because the MP-11 mold is pretty much what we would have got had they not done. MP-04 Optimus Prime "With New HAT!!!!" for those that wanted to buy the toy again to get a trailer and who didn't buy the third party trailer. Megatron is the worst of them. Maybe if they spent more time on him we would have gotten a better toy. Grimlock, oh how they got that one so close. The mold is great, the transformation is fun but why oh why was he so damn short. I know this came in during a financial crisis in Japan but he just didn't fit in. He is passable in the new line. Rodimus Prime is a bad mold that came in two versions, and a Hasbro version before they got it right with the evil one. Bad connectors, not able to hold his gun, paint scraping, the hands. Oh what a shame. He does still look the part next to MP-10 though.
MP-10 is when Masterpiece got good and worth collecting. Rereleasing MP-05 is a step back in time and since the designers are changing back, this also isn't surprising. If you like MP-05, great. I just want an evolution and consistency to Masterpiece and this gold version has no place in my collection.

I dunno, the MP Grimlock toy seemed like it had a lot of care that went into it. The designer (can't recall which it was, I'll have to look that up later ) even said he went as far as to seek inspiration for its T-Rex neck/tail gimmick from the Beast Machines Rattrap toy, which sounds like he cared a lot about the project if he went as far as to seek out a gimmick from a completely unrelated and nearly irrelevant (by today's point in time) toy.Trikeboy wrote:Here's the thing, MP-05 is a reminder that TakaraTomy didn't take the Masterpiece line seriously until MP-10 came out.

And for MP Rodimus, the developers were inspired by the engineering from Animated Rodimus Minor. Also, I woulf din it very hard not to notice any love that went into MP 01

Edit, also, if TakaraTomy had released the pic below, would you honestly pick a gold MP-05 over a new v2 Megatron? I'm not going to turn this into a 3rd party discussion. This is all I'll say on that figure. If this was from TT, people would be jumping through the roof in excitement.

That was partially in jest. I say "partially" because my sleep-deprived brain somehow completely skipped over that eBay listing.
Has anyone else bought one of those test shots? If so, does it have the same die cast pieces as the original? Thanks!
