| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (834963) Posted by Nekoman on November 16th, 2008 @ 10:33am CST
I agree, though, I dislike that the rear window is solid blue. It looks inconsistent with the rest of him.
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (834965) Posted by DevastaTTor on November 16th, 2008 @ 10:42am CST I suspect the Henkei version will have a more refined and desirable paint job. Once again, another paint app disappointment from Hasbro. | |
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (834967) Posted by DevastaTTor on November 16th, 2008 @ 10:47am CST And another thing: could they not paint his gun black? It's those little details that make all the difference. | |
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (834974) Posted by dragons on November 16th, 2008 @ 11:06am CST prowl was teh only one i liked out of the others im not big fan of repaints but i hate to say ill pass on smookescreen & silverstreak | |
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (834984) Posted by Hard Hacker on November 16th, 2008 @ 11:39am CST Mistransformations aside, it looks nice. | |
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (834986) Posted by leader magnus prime on November 16th, 2008 @ 11:41am CST only version of the mold i want | |
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (834989) Posted by Firebird on November 16th, 2008 @ 11:42am CST Smokescreen looks pretty nice in those shots. But I agree that the blue rear window doesn't look right. I suppose that I will just paint mine black like I did with my prowl. | |
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (834992) Posted by ThunderThruster on November 16th, 2008 @ 11:45am CST tbh, i think this is the best paint job on this mold! | |
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (834994) Posted by Sowndwave76 on November 16th, 2008 @ 11:46am CST I'm hoping the Henkei version has less yellow... So far, I like Silverstreak the best of this mold, but overall, this is pretty nice looking figure. I'll get him no matter what, but I hope Henkei gives us less yellow, a better colored weapon, and maybe even slightly more muted colors. | |
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (834997) Posted by Sledge on November 16th, 2008 @ 11:49am CST
Oh puh-LEASE. People bitch that Prowl is too dull, so we get the same mold in brighter colours and people still bitch. And insist Takara will somehow magically "fix" the problem with their chrome wand.
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (835003) Posted by Smokescreen GT on November 16th, 2008 @ 11:54am CST Smokescreen looks great aside from the overly thick white stripes along the sides. The blue back windows don't bother me and neither does the red gun. Although the gun would look better if painted black. Regardless, he's a definite must have for me. | |
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (835006) Posted by ThunderThruster on November 16th, 2008 @ 12:05pm CST
hear, hear! | |
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (835007) Posted by Nekoman on November 16th, 2008 @ 12:06pm CST
From what I could tell, the complaints for Prowl were that he was totally undetailed. The problem with Smokescreen is that a lot of his colors just don’t mix, like all the yellow. The gun being red is also a bit odd. But Takara will probably chrome the gun, which not only would make it blend better, but make it more accurate.
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (835009) Posted by Sledge on November 16th, 2008 @ 12:12pm CST See, this is what bothers me. Personally I don't see a problem with the yellow or the red gun. So am I wrong, or do people need to stop presenting their opinions is if they're inalienable facts? | |
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (835011) Posted by Nekoman on November 16th, 2008 @ 12:19pm CST
No, you’re not “wrong” and no one is posting their opinion as fact. All I did was explain a view point an bit further. It IS an fact however, that chrome on his gun would make him slightly more accurate. Of course, that doesn’t mean you have to like it more or less. Just simply pointing out where Hasbro could’ve done an better job as far as accuracy goes.
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (835012) Posted by Sledge on November 16th, 2008 @ 12:25pm CST That seems fairly unambiguous to me. Thing is, Hasbro haven't been going for G1 accuracy so far. They've been going for G1 updated. For me, this works as that. The colour scheme works whilst still being obviously Smokescreen. Yes, the red gun isn't G1 accurate, but it gives a further point of difference from Prowl and Bluestreak. | |
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (835071) Posted by DMSL on November 16th, 2008 @ 3:53pm CST He looks awesome only thing i don't like is the blue chin, the yelow on the legs and the fake looking gun, make it black damn Hasbro. | |
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (835120) Posted by StarThunderWarp on November 16th, 2008 @ 6:11pm CST I'll skip this and get the henkai. | |
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (835130) Posted by Oilspill on November 16th, 2008 @ 6:42pm CST I must say old Smokescreen looks much nicer in these shots with natural lighting than with proper studio lighting. I doubt Henkei will be worth it for me. I don't care for chrome weapons. While I'll definitely be getting Ironhide, and maybe Hound, for Smokescreen I'll just repaint the gun and the over-the-shoulder missiles, maybe the hands too. Wish the yellow taillights were clear like the headlights though. That could make me get the Henkei if they fix that. Am I the only one who likes the white stripe being wider than G1? I think it looks much improved. | |
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (835136) Posted by dr_n00b on November 16th, 2008 @ 7:16pm CST buying, since i have bluestreak and prowl, and i want to have the g1 trio together again. but like i said previously - i WILL be touching this figure up a bit - silver on rockets, exhaust and gun, for starters. if hasbro saves themselves some money on some of the yellow paint apps, i wouldn't be too sad either. and i am digging the gold hubcaps! | |
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (835335) Posted by SJ21 on November 17th, 2008 @ 8:09am CST Wow. Looking at that paintjob makes my retinas burn. There is an awful lot going on there. | |
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (835336) Posted by Dark Knight Sammy on November 17th, 2008 @ 8:17am CST It is too shiney. Couldn't they of given it a bit of a re-mold like the g1 fig??? | |
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (835340) Posted by heltskelt on November 17th, 2008 @ 8:20am CST How come the first people who have this are unable to properly transform it despite two previous renditions of this mold? That aside, this version is disappointing. Not even a remodeled spoiler but a yellow paint application instead? Red forearms? A red gun from a Cobra battle pack? And yellow tailights? I'll complete my whining with: WAAAHHH!!! I'll still buy it to complete the trio: you win once again, Hasbro. The Silverstreak version is the best... once he switches headlights with prowl, like mine did. | |
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (835389) Posted by Nekoman on November 17th, 2008 @ 12:09pm CST Comus of TF08.net, has just posted quite an number of high quality photos of the upcoming Universe Smokescreen. | Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (835396) Posted by ThunderThruster on November 17th, 2008 @ 12:29pm CST i gotta say, why the hell are people complaing about ALL the yellow? he's barely got a paintbrush's worth on him! | |
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (835412) Posted by wardamnpjm1 on November 17th, 2008 @ 1:30pm CST When will Hasbro learn the more G1 accurate paint apps the better it will sell.I want this fig,but I wanna see what Henkei does with it before I commit to Hasbros version. If the past holds true I will be buying the Henkei version. | |
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (835448) Posted by Savage on November 17th, 2008 @ 2:47pm CST I'm still considering buying this. I actually have no complaints about it at all. I own Prowl, passed on Silverstreak cause they just weren't different enough for me. I will say that Silverstreak's car mode looks fantastic. As for Smokescreen here, the jury's still out. He looks great to me, but I'm not sure it's worth buying a repaint of a mold I already own as a character I'm not concerned with. | |
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (835454) Posted by DMSL on November 17th, 2008 @ 3:03pm CST Yep the red forearms do look a bit too much white would have been better. I can look past that though. I can't look passed the silly looking red gun or the horrible yellow on the knees. What is cool though is that he's coloured like the Dutch flag. | |
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (835467) Posted by Talous on November 17th, 2008 @ 3:22pm CST He looks nice. As often as I've broken my old promise to my wallet of "I will not buy repaints" I think this time I'll pass. Cheers for who ever gets him tho. | |
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (835503) Posted by Smokescreen GT on November 17th, 2008 @ 3:49pm CST The new pics look good. Can't wait for him! | |
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (835533) Posted by Prowl1529 on November 17th, 2008 @ 4:41pm CST Very nice repaint but i will wait for Takara and their Henkei line. That red gun, yellow paint and the color of the windows don't match very well. Takara will definatly do better. | |
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (835606) Posted by Oilspill on November 17th, 2008 @ 8:04pm CST I like the shade of blue that Hasbro has used, looks better than the original IMO. I'm certainly looking forward to getting this guy. Like the seekers and Ratchet/Ironhide, this is one case where repaints are allowed I don't know why everyone is looking forward to the Henkei version. For both Prowl and Silverstreak they didn't do much more than throw some chrome on the spoiler and weapons. I hope Smokescreen will be different but I wouldn't get my hopes up. | |
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (835612) Posted by jduckworth27 on November 17th, 2008 @ 8:20pm CST
i agree. i actually like the figure, so i might change my mind when i see it in the store. i don't know.
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (835677) Posted by rpetras on November 17th, 2008 @ 11:34pm CST I know I'll get him, but so far I like the Silverstreak the best of the 3. | |
| Re: Mini-gallery of Universe Smokescreen (836233) Posted by jduckworth27 on November 19th, 2008 @ 1:48am CST
i'm pretty impressed with that one too. kind of hard to improve on that guy.
