2.) I'm shocked and surprised by some of their mold choices... (Bludgeon for Megatron? No. Jazz for Wheelie? No. Sorry, neither of those are impressive. The others are pretty much a given, such as Cliffjumper.)
3.) I don't like normally like repaints, especially ones that homage G1 on newer designs. However...that Leader Starscream is AWESOME. (You finally win one, Hasbro. Kudos.)
But, after seeing the Trilogy Line....I can see why retailers passed on it. It's nothing but repaints and redecos. That's fine for us, but kids won't give a damn, parents won't want to rebuy the same figure over and over again. Plus the economy is just crap right now.
PRID seems like a surefire winner, for the money. New product, new sales. MTL old product, possibly no sales.

What are you talking about? The DOTM Voyager repaint Ironhide? Because there's like 6-8 of them sitting on the shelf at my Wal-Mart, right now. Saw many more in my travels to Pittsburgh, last night.

Let's say it's a given that Hasbro feels these would perform poorly at/ wouldn't be supported by US retail (which I disagree with vehemently, of course). There's no reason on God's green earth (Primus' metal Cybertron?) that this shouldn't immediately be followed by Hasbro brokering a deal to have a relatively small quantity of these pieces available through either Hasbro Toy Shop or the Transformers Collectors' Club, albeit at slightly higher than usual prices. At least, this way, we wouldn't have to pay quite so exorbitant import fees/costs/markups.
Or, maybe, Hasbro loves us all sooooo much that we're getting all new molds of these characters in the next two years, and these would just be redundant.

LEGION (LEGENDS) CLASS
Bluestreak - repaint of the Prowl mold
Hoist – repaint/retool of the Trailercutter mold (with blaster)
Motormaster – repaint of Optimus Prime mold (with sword)
Thundercracker - repaint of Starscream mold
completely expected, and I could care less
SCOUT CLASS
Sandstorm –repaint of the Dune Runner mold
Brawl – repaint of the Breacher mold
Dead End – repaint of the Brakedown mold
Lazerbeak – a repaint of the Skystalker mold (interesting)
I'd rather have a proper tripple-changing Sandstorm, thanks.
Makes some sense, but I'd rather have PCC whats-his-name that looks like Brawl anyway.
Not impressed with the Brakedown mold anyway, so why bother with a repaint.
Yes, that is interesting, but as with Dead End it's not enough.
DELUXE CLASS
Springer – repaint/retool of the Tomahawk mold (with new head)
Swerve - repaint/retool of the Sergent Kup mold (with new head)
Cliffjumper – new G1 head sculpt on the existing deluxe Prime CJ
Wheelie - repaint/retool of the Tomahawk mold (with new head)
Already have Warbot Defender.
Swerve is a nobody who almost always comes across as a repaint of someone else, so bleh.
CJ... well I'm kinda peeved, but not as much as my brother apparently is.
Who the hell gets Wheelie from Jazz?!
VOYAGER CLASS
Power Dive - repaint/retool of the Highbrow mold (with new head)
Megatron (G2) - repaint/retool of the Bludgeon mold (with new head)
Hotspot - repaint/retool of the Inferno mold (with new head)
Brawn - repaint/retool of the TF Prime Bulkhead mold (with new head)
Highbrow as a mold in general kinda teeters between good and bad for me, so I don't want another one.
Erg... well I do need more G2 in my life, and Megatron as a voyager would be awesome... but I hardly think the Bludgeon mold suits anyone but Bludgeon.
Another case of a Combiner team leader being given a body that will never combine with anything.
And Brawn from Bulkhead..... to me the thing that makes Brawn what he is would be the fact that he's small. Still his head on that body would be kinda funny to look at.
All in all I could care less, but there were some nice tries in there.
NEXT!

Nope. Movie Trilogy. Generations were shown as a separate line. Hasbro might've heard on us on being tired of repaints and remolds. I also think retailers got pissed and complained about the overstocks.

Springer from Tomahawk - What a waste of a perfectly good Rotorstorm.
Swerve from Kup - as much as I love him in MTMTE, the Cybertron mold works much better. Plus, that head looks nothing like him.
Cliffjumper from Cliffjumper – That may be the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Who wants to bet it's the WFC Cliffjumper head?
Wheelie from Jazz - Stupid but interesting
G2 Megatron from Bludgeon - It's bad enough we have to stomach this body as Overlord now this? But since I'm on a G2 kick right now, I'll have to see it. Is the Maketoys Tanker Optimus as tall as Bludgeon?
Hotspot from Inferno - Lazy but possible. But with Inferno, Grappel, and Pyro already, does anybody really want this or is it just Combiner lust?
Brawn from Bulkhead - Wait, now this is the new stupidest thing I've ever heard.
Leader G1 Starscream - SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY

Wheelie is a turn off, Springer... I dunno, Defender is still the top dog. Swerve is also sort of meh, and CJ, not that great either.
Voyagers are kick ass though!

Wheelie wasn't the alternate head they showed at Botcon 2010. Interesting. As far as we all know now, this is a new mold.

Survivalist does a great job for me thanks.
Honestly, the only one out of this list that I'm really excited about is Hotspot. Now if these were in the stores for regular US market prices, I'd probably pick up more. The Megs sounds like it has potential.

As much as I love the Jazz mold it just wont work for wheelie Im afraid.
And the rest are all easy passes. I wont be spending my coin on a dozen retooled figures that hardly resemble their namesakes.

I've often wondered why TRU doesn't have a import toy aisle.
Even if they put them behind glass or used the ticket system the video games use
they have a lost opportunity and the business model is becoming antiquated.
They could also make a big hit in striking deals to offer 3rd party products in house. Not the knock offs, Hercules is based on Dev but the design and components are totally new. Everyone involved could make much more money.

Hasbro did offer Takara figures during Beast Wars online at one point, but that went bust. Besides, those new Asia-exclusive figure are still Hasbro, so chances are they'll be available on HTS later, with a premium of course. Same thing happened with the Universe Special Editions.
Speaking of which, wouldn't it be funny if they, like their SE predecessors, ended up in liquidator stores?
And Toys 'R Us is stocking a Japanese piece of merchandise if you must know: S.H. Figuarts Shinken Red for Power Rangers Samurai, unchanged.

Sorry, but no. The law is a very fickle, ambiguous yet precise thing. In the eyes of the court, the best thing Hasbro can sue them for is "stealing and adapting designs", even that doesn't hold water because there's so little of the original thing to be found in the new, right down to the names used. If the design choices can be ruled as generic, then your case is as good as gone.
