The 5 Pack Combaticons, much like other 5 Pack combiners in this toyline, have a central figure which is the only one that has a robot mode. The rest merely have alternate modes and act as limbs in the combined mode. We've previously seen images of the two 2-packs, however these are also more up close. Check out the pictures below!

Searchlight with Backwind

All we need is a deluxe sized Arcee so we can insert Hotrod into her.
I'd have pee'd myself at these as a kid - I was mad about Gestalts (I had all of them). It begs the question of why they didn't do this sooner for a Transformers line?

I wouldn't give up on that hope, my friend! They could still release upgrade packs that had mini robos!

Or could it possibly be (glee!) a combine-with-other-main-robots feature? or is it just to let them take the place of one of the "core" bots from the 5-bot sets?
All larger figures, Smolder, and Searchlight for example, can be the 'central' piece of a Combiner. So to answer your question, yeah.

That's still mighty awesome.

Onslaught's transformation to form the centre of Bruticus there is quite neat, I wonder if the rest are that nice.
But...
I hate the minicons being made from translucent plastic, just brings back bad memories of Energon, and worse, also dredging up the worst of energon, the hand-less combiner limbs. The drones do not have to pull off a robot mode as well, there is no excuse for not having proper hands! If they had given them hands, they could hold the targetmaster guns.
I will be getting Huffer for my classics set definitely, I guess I will evaluate the others when I can see them up close, and get some video reviews.

Dunno if it makes sense to anyone else, but when I see a clear bot, ala ghost starscream, that means, to me, that the bots aren't real made-o-metal robots, just something like energy constructs or something. So partnering the "real" bots with these clear things just makes me not even care.

1 The bloody translucent plastic the minicons are made off.
2 Why remove the robot-mode of the limbs if they still fail at giving them decent looking hands? Claws and stuff, WTF?!
Posted by HighPrime on March 22nd, 2010 @ 7:26am CDT
I'm not concerned with the fact the limbs have no robot modes. How often do the limbs ever become robots, anyway? Maybe once, just to see what the robot looks like? After that, for me, they become permanent appendages.

WTF Hasbro, at first this was a pass for me, was not going to even purchase these guys but the simple fact that you guys made SMOLDER a decepticon as an ambulance is just SICK!, I love it, the true meaning of a decepticon, I like this concept of making rescue vehicles decepticons, just like barricade that false sense of security...I can see him as a repaint of G1 protectobot First Aid...he is a WIN for me...SEARCHLIGHT, I would have renamed this guy HIGHBROW ( I know he's not a Headmaster...YET) but he has a similar updated style to him..unless Hasbro lost the rights to his name, like octane...oh well...he will be my HIGHBROW!![]()

And i can live with the Combaticon limbs not having robot modes, but what did we gain by not getting them? Claw hands and horrible articulation?..

Liking the Combaticons...
Show me more, but it's looking like these are buys for me.
And one other thing: collectors are the only ones who give a rats ass about the individual robot modes. The kids- to whom these toys are TARGETED- could care less.
Posted by DMSL on March 22nd, 2010 @ 11:10am CDT
I'd also like to see some classic series Targetmasters, i.e. Kup, Blurr, Arcee and Scourge.
Posted by Swiftpaw on March 22nd, 2010 @ 11:29am CDT
Just need a blue Autobot version of the fire truck with a set of rescue vehicles and we'd have mini Protectobots vs mini Combaticons.
Posted by Overcracker on March 22nd, 2010 @ 12:07pm CDT
I mean you already removed the robot modes, the least you could do was give us decent looking arms and feet. Call me crazy, but I like human looking hands/fists, like the G1 gestalts had.
Not usually one to praise Bandai's Power Rangers/Super Sentai, but at least their fists look like fists most of the time for their not transforming limb components, not some bizarre claw thing.
Would it have been to difficult to give them fists, and retain the articulation?
Anyway, they look interesting enough, and having the stand alone larger bots be able to combine with any of the smaller limb units is a good idea.
I might pick up a few.

Pictures don't mean a thing when it comes to judging support. I'm sure these limbs aren't too heavy because all they have are alternate modes. This means more poseability, which is great news for Combiners.

Just what I was thinking.
This thing has sideways knees, no rotating elbows, and no evidence has actually been shown of those arms rotating at the shoulder which probably means that the shoulder joint can't even hold the arm up.
You'd think that because they don't turn into robots as well that they could accomplish something better than this junk.

$19.99 US, so around Voyager Pricing.
